West view parents say that he is strict. No flip flops allowed. Wow try to enforce a rule like that with 2000 + students to deal with. Really with everything going on in schools today, Jefferson Co. included, are we truly worried about flip flops and a little hair color or a few piercings.Lets be concerned with test scores.

Test scores would fall into place if the students were held to some type of standards. If a dress code is put in place (staff and students) and piercings, hair color, anything that is distracting to the learning enviroment is taken out of the equation.....it will be a step in the right direction. It is time that all schools not just Jefferson County Schools become a place of learning that is lead by the adults not the children. Students should learn at home that unless an adult at school is asking them to do something wrong or inapproiate they should do so without any discussion. If you are ask to sit down by your instructor the correct response is NOT "Just a sec when I get finished talking to 'whomever'." Then when the instructor has to ask the student again to return to their seat and this goes on for five minutes of instructual time and finally the poor instructor decides to take action and give a referral. Now the student goes home and tells how terrible their instructor was to them today and dear old parent comes to the school to complain. "HERE'S YOUR SIGN" People get your children under control at home and then when they come to school learning might happen! It is time that you reflect back to your youth and remember the value of lessons learned at home. R-E-S-P-E-C-T! Respect for yourself and others! This is just lesson one. Lesson two I could write about imporvements needed by the instructors to have a good learning enviroment. I am by no means an expert on the subject of education. Just seems like if some common sense is used.....life would be simpler...just sayin'. wtf wrote: West view parents say that he is strict. No flip flops allowed. If we had "instructors" who cared whether or not the students learned, this might be a relavent topic. We, instead have " instructors" who have chosen to simply take tenure and a paycheck. And before anyone starts the "poor, underpaid teacher" conversation, these people chose to become teachers, knowing fully well the salary and the territory they were getting into. We, here in Jefferson County have paid every years to have a student handbook printed. The student handbook is given to EVERY STUDENT at JCHS, with a paper that states that this handbook is read and understood by both the student and parents. The paper is to be signed and returned to the school. I can only assume that the "instructors" also read and understand this handbook and all of its contents. If we, as tax payers pay the price to print rules into a book,I feel the rules, as written in said handbook should be enforced by parents, teachers, and administrators. If you precious, little teen is only expressing their personality with blue hair, gaged ears, facial piercings or whatever, you are free to homeschool and let them express all the personality you can handle, but it is time for JCHS to be a place of learning and respect between students and faculty, but some teachers need to earn their salary for a change. If parents allow their children to walk into school dressed in a way that breaks rules, be adults and call them back to pick up their "little angels" and take them home until such time that they can comply with rules. High school is supposed to prepare these young people for the future. Well, surprise, once you seek employment in an adult world you follow rules or are unemployed.

What is the deal with no flip-flops? Hey, Mr. Walker, why are you concerned about childrens' footwear? Alot of these kids are lucky to have a pair of flip-flops. Just EDUCATE them! Moron. You just don't get it.

Moron. You just don't get it. I feel sorry for the new principal having to deal with PARENTS who refer to him as a Moron when he hasn't even begun his new job. You should read previous posts about respect and discipline. Most schools don't allow sandals let alone flip flops. The school policy always has the best interest and safety of the student in mind, and I'm sure if Dr. Walker or any school administrator for that matter knew of a student who couldn't afford shoes, arrangements would be made to get him/her a pair.

There are plenty of "instructors" who care, but there is little they can do when administrators and parents are constantly working against them. Hopefully this new principal will get things going in the right direction.

i just hope the new principal takes control of the high school, with 2000 students, he has definitely got his hands full. I hope he does tackle some every day issues, of students having to sit on the floor to eat lunch, if they can even get thru the lunch line in time to eat during their alloted time. what about making sure students have lockers that they can store their books in without having to carry them around all day in an overloaded backpack. Get control & respect of the teachers & you can get control & respect from the students. Good Luck and best wishes for a happy school year.

Moron. You just don't get it. And people wonder why kids do not have respect for anyone. well this is why! They hear their parents talking like this. IT is sad. There are several reasons why flip flops should not be worn to school. If that is part of the dress code, it should be respected. Parents should lead by example and show some respect. Calling someone a moron? classy! I teach my children to give everyone respect. If I want it from them, I have to teach them to give it to others. That is where our problem is. Parents are not teaching their children to respect anyone or anything. Rules are rules and they are meant to be followed without question. As long as my child is not being harmed, they are taught to follow the rules. IT is simple. but as always the problem is not YOU, it is someone else. The teachers and administration can only do so much and if kids come to school with an aditude (that they learned from their parents) it is very hard for the teachers to get anything done. This problem will stay with these children into the work environment. This is not good. there are some rules that I do not understand myself but they are rules and they should be respected.

If you are going to be AN eleventh grader, you are going to have to study very hard.
