Is Johnny Wayne losing what Grandpa gave him? Looks like Farris is going out of business. He has no cars -new or used. Does anyone know?

I know. No. Between model year change and the way cars are selling, he can't keep them on the lot. He is not going out of business. They have 5 new minivan's on the lot, 5 new trucks, and a couple of others. They had 17 new cars on order and I believe 5 came in. That leaves 12 still on order. Used cars are flying out the door as soon as they put them on the lot. Farris is not going anywhere. They got to keep their franchise. So did Tarr.

Let's hope they will be here for a very, very long time. Jefferson County is squeezed between 3 much larger counties which drain a lot of the sales tax revenue away. Someone once estimated that if each family in our county spent $5 twice a year in each small business, we would have many, many more viable enterprises ready to provide customer care and service. Current cost to send each child to kindergarten through grade 12 is well over $100,000 in tax dollars.

Your check is in the mail. Or has Johnny Wayne already paid you?

Mr. Farris pays me weekly, as I am employed there. However he does now know I have replied to this thread. But it really does not matter, as finding out about Farris's inventory is simple. Just go to Farris's website. They have 55 used cars on the lot (as of yesterday) and 19 new cars either on the lot or in transit according to the website.

Appreciate your detailed report of inventory, as facts is what any forum requires to continue to be beneficial. Heresay, inuendos and factless suggestions serve no one, no community and no business. Hats off to all who seek unbias data which build trust, confidence and longterm progress in our community. As profit margins continue to be squeezed, pray for our business leaders as they attempt to make wise decisions.

Thanks Mr. Farris, for the update. Now sell some cars before you go under.

No, wrong gender, wrong age! However, every day I hear a dozen folks ask me if I know of any jobs. The housing downturn & loan fiasco which we read about in 2007, which took the lifelong savings of many of us, is a part of the ageless saga worldwide of trying to keep body and soul together. Each time I hear that inquiry about work, I think of my mother who went to 23 schools as her dad and brothers sought any and all kinds of work in the 20's in the west during droughts and downturns. Yet, the tiny family piano was hauled around so they could sing and laugh as a family every night. I've lived in a city with hundreds of people walking down the street in front of my house-- then scurrying inside at dusk to keep from being mugged. Every day let us give thanks for our east Tennessee communities with their work ethic and family values. See what we can do to preserve that !

Well, I'm old enough to be the Farris' parents, or almost. But hubby and I have enjoyed reading about how different industries change over time. Many offerings today were separate businesses, but companies had to diversify and adapt to demand and demographics in their area. Try reading how Henry Ford created essentially a separate city with schools, day care, medical services, etc., within the manufacturing campus in the 1930's. Ford, Vanderbilt and other leaders of the 20's vacationed (camped in the wild) in Tennessee with fairly primitive or basic supplies. He built the Ford Museum in the late 20's in Dearborn. It requires about 3 days to see it, along with the village nearby. He moved houses from all decades there to show living over the centuries. Several stone houses from about 1500 in England are there. Many of the dwellings, shops, etc have guided tours. Well, this is digressing, but it was a great Thanksgiving week little vacation for us ! Millions of items are collected there. The massive locomotives, diesell engines, industrial generators are a tribute to US manufacturing might once upon a time. Anybody ever been to "The Henry Ford" who would like to share? P.S. Elvis' car(s) and Presidential cars are on display. We encountered many multi-generation family reunions there.

Tuesday's Standard Banner detailed the upcoming expansion, re-opening of the zinc mine facilities. Forecasting 300 + jobs, here's hoping some of those folks "shop at home" and select a car from your company! We have purchased 3 there over the years and wish the one bought elsewhere had been bought there !

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Virgo

Unfortunately, this looks like being another difficult day, and, as Mars turns retrograde, certain people are quick to take offence or raise their voices. Make sure you aren't adding to the tension by doing or saying something that's provocative or even downright insulting. If you get involved in a shouting match it will be difficult to stop and you could say some nasty things in the heat of the moment.
