I have a degree in treacherous endearments and false cajolings from Carson-Newman, with a minor in sibling betrayal and sanctimonious pretenses.
I lived a wonderful life here in Jefferson County in our beloved community of Pharisees and Sadducees. Playing the role of the martyred wife, speaking in a coquettish whine, and keeping my hair bleached and well-coiffed, I became quite a successful manipulator. We Smiths are innately skillful at cant and self-righteousness. So good in fact my life of cant has been quite profitable, and a treasure to pass along to my brood.

Please come see my Chinese artifacts. My mother was so shrewd she stole her brother Charlie's share. And I was able to get my claws on my brother's share. You see, we Christians are granted special dispensations and licenses to steal by our precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We are not perfect, just forgiven.

Thank you for the report. Your style of writing indicates you were a standout in English Composition during your four years at Carson-Newman.

Well, that's OK. You must be brilliant otherwise. As far as my friends and relatives, there's only two things they don't like about me --- my face. But that made me popular at C-N.

I know C-N has had it's ups and downs like any school does, but recently they seem to be stepping it up! Sure some people have been layed off because of the economic crunch (even UT let a bunch of people go!) and C-N is not immune to it, and unfortunately it HAD to happen.

Have you all seen the new Business Facility they have? Wow! Also, the new president of C-N seems to have his head on straight (I think it was the last pres. who started running it in the ground). I've talked to him personally. Wonderful man who is very real with you. I would not mind at all if my kids went there! Even if C-N has lost a bit of its edge, it still beats the pants off any state schools!

I am a student currently enrolled at Carson-Newman. I am from Morristown and am very greatful for this great college to basically be at my back door. It is a great school, even though it is very expensive. I couldn't imagine going to any other college. I am in my last year majoring in Interior Design. I am thankful for this great school offering numerous programs of study and believing in their students. The faculty is wonderful and are more than willing to work with students who might have circumstances in which extra attention might need to be given. The majority of classes are small, therefore allowing students and professors to develop relationships that might have otherwise been comprimised in a university setting. I will be forever proud to have attended Carson-Newman College and will reccommend this school to everyone.

Do you still have to attend chapel there at their Blabtist Church and listen to all the charlatans sermonize in order not to be kicked out of school?

Did they teach you, besides not showing you how to use a spell-checker, about all the rapes, murders, incest, misogyny, infanticide, and lies in their King James Bible?

You do not have to attend chapel unless you want the half hour credit, and I do not feel like I am preached at during Chapels. They are actually called CLW's. They are not all religion based. I really don't care about your opinions. My parents graduated from Carson-Newman and they are both highly respected physicians. My aunt also graduated from there and is also a physician. I believe in God and trust the Bible. Your rant does not hinder my faith at all. If anything, it makes it stronger. The only reason I posted anything was to leave my opinion about a great school for those who might be looking for a good college in the area.Oh, who cares about my spelling? Just because I didn't spell something correctly does not make me uneducated or the education that I have received at CN a bad one. Apparently you couldn't find anything else to negatively comment about in my previous post so you had to resort to making fun of my spelling. It seems to me like you could have used a Carson-Newman education.

Robin, I take it that a Christian college isn't up your alley. That's ok! C-N doesn't force it's beliefs or Christianity onto anyone, but it is there if you'd like it. It's good to have schools like Carson-Newman out there that still build people of character.

Besides, Topix doesn't have a Spell-Checker to use. I'm sure for formal documents "Knows" would use that.

Seems like you're the charlatan here, making wild accusations about C-N, yet you have no idea.

You're naive and must not have excelled in English. Probably you should have read more Dickens and Shakespeare, although at C-N they would have been careful to let you read only selected portions.

Were you around when the bible professor, his wife, and daughter were busted for being in a shoplifting ring? LOL. How's that for building character?

Here's what I think about religion, and the xian religion in particular:

From the mishmash of contradictions in the Bible, even the NT, people take and follow whatever morsels please them.

What most people take and follow from the bible is what they relate to, or what pleases them. Here is a quote from Jesus Christ himself:

"Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household. He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it." (Matthew 10:34-39 NASB)

So Jesus is telling his followers to make orphans of their children. And I know for a fact that people have done this very thing: abandoned their families to follow Jeezus and made their children into orphans.

And here's this particularly surly warmongering. Talk about family values:

"If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple." (Luke 14:26)

Of course, anyone with any logic at all knows that the bible is the work of some silly jealous and oversexed little men who wished to grasp and accumulate power and hold their flock in subservience and stupidity.

Dump faith in favor of logic and reason, and avoid dumpy little schools with poor academics like Carson-Newman that release people on society doddering with naivete and unready for the vicissitudes of the world.

As Tom Sawyer said, "Faith is believing what you know ain't so."

I won't get into a huge discussion about what the Bible is saying, but I do know that it all depends on one's interpretation of the text. You are certainly entitled to your view. Again I will say that at Carson-Newman though, they do not force anything upon you. It's not a Bible school. In fact the religion courses are taught in somewhat of a 'history class' approach and from that people can determine what they believe and how to interpret it. Perhaps back in the day it was more of that way, but today C-N is here to educate, not indoctrinate.

Poor Academics? I would doubt that. Did you not see that C-N was ranked as the best college in East Tennessee by Forbes? Now sure it's just one company's opinion, but making a national list like that is pretty impressive.

To Mae Mae, I haven't heard of the shoplifting ring you mentioned, but I never said that everyone at C-N was perfect. There are always a few bad apples (regardless of where you go) and you hear about the 'bad guys' a million times more than you hear of the good ones. It's unfortunate, but I'd say more often than not you tend to have more students that are well rounded coming out of C-N than you would from a state school.

I know that Carson-Newman isn't for everyone, but it seems like a few on here just have some beef with C-N and are bashing anyone who supports it.
