Jefferson County Sheriffs Department loses another top deputy.
Sgt. James " Mike " Powers is resigning from the JCSO after 11 years of service and dedication to accept a position in southern Alabama.
Anybody that knows Mike , respects him.
Admit it or not.
Mike is well known for being fair, impartial and non-judgmental.
Mike is also known for his ability to deal with the youths in the community and over the years, has put many young people back on the right path.
Sgt. Powers has the ability, personality and the testicular fortitude law enforcement requires and the agency he is going to are certainly getting one of the best.
The passion Mike has for his work along with his knowledge of the community and the people here will make his vacancy hard to fill.
Sgt. James " Mike " Powers will be missed by the community, his friends and most important, his family.
We will miss you , Mike and we hope and pray you are forever safe.
We Love you , Mike

Did he get tired of working with lazy morons like Bernard "ED" Adams.

Ex dog catcher turned law man, State job for life for his participation in a correctional prostrate exam given by an inmate.

Or the rock with lips known as Major Tyler. Who said giving a good reach around wouldn't advance a career.

SGT Hunter you are learning from the best.

Cmdr Hurst you deserve a raise for dealing with idiots of their magnitude

I'm not up on the politics within the JCSO so I'd better leave that one alone.
I do know that officers like Sgt. Powers are few and far between and his resignation will certainly leave a void that will not easily be filled.
Dedication, Professionalism, Knowledge, Fairness, Courage & Respect for others are just a few of Sgt. Powers attributes. All of the officers have some of these, very few have all. Sgt. James " Mike " Powers has them all.
Mike knows the limitations of his authority and never presents himself as above the law.
Some Do.
Mike's resignation from JCSO is just another step backwards for this community.
We wish him well and will miss him more than words can express.
Good Luck , Mike. Be safe. We Love You.

Powers is a good officer. One of the best this county has had. Powers didn't avoid crime. Powers went out in search of it and often found it.
Powers didn't try to save the world whenever he pinned his shield on. He did his job and did it well and I agree, this community has lost ANOTHER oustanding officer. We wish Powers and his family the best and Jefferson County will miss him.

I served with Bernard Adams one time. He is the only Deputy that I ever served with that could foul up more than he was worth. He has caused a lot of good Deputys to leave Jeff. Co. Sheriff`s Dept. over the years. I would have still been with the agency if it was not for him threatening to run me off. For a person that has his rank he has no concept how to use it. He can take command of a division and have it so screwed up in know time. This is a voice experience speaking. The agency was recommended several years ago to terminate him but it never happened.

He got ran off from the ADC based upon his imcompetance. The inmate administered prostate exam probably didnt help.

Now he is screwing up the Jeff Co Jail, and running deputies off from that facility.

He is a moron of unbounded proportion. But then again Major Tyler is far away. She has a great future and its all behind her.

Losers like Capt. Bernard "Ed" Adams are the status quo of Jeff County, and Pine Bluff.

They all deserve one another.

Understood and very well put.

It's not about Jefferson County anymore. It's become a color thing. And crime goes unchecked. Too much effort put on pushing the good officers out the door and not enough focus on crimes.
The new sheriff was quoted as saying " I'll have a regime of black deputies "
The deputies that left on thier own knew they were on the " endangered species " list for one reason or another. And more than likely it wasn't because of their performance as an officer. i know alot of the officers and I've heard things. Things that paint a great big picture.
The " brother in law " rule is in effect until the next election.

I dont think it is about race as you suggest.
That may have some bearing.
I just chose not to elaborate on any of the Sheriffs that happen to be white. Because there are a few I could mention.
Cpt. Bernard Adams is an idiot. Is it because he is black. Maybe,I dont know.
I do know he is a fool.
I can imagine him sitting on his toilet with one thumb in his mouth and the other in his rectum, switching them every few moments because he forgot
if he was left or right handed.
I remember when the J.C.S.O. and P.B.P.D. were both overwhelmingly W.A.S.P. They sucked then. There was just as much amphetamines and crack on the street as there is now. Is that a reflection on a group of white employess. Maybe, maybe not.
I had this very similar conversation with an alderman that proposed your favorite antiunderwear bill. I will tell you like I told him you are pissing in the wind.
I personally dont care much for the state of Arkansas. The average Arkansan has the mentality of cave(wo)man and is 30 years behind the rest of the country.

I couldn't care less if they ( black , white or green with yellow dots ) wear their drawers down around their ankles. The city of Pine Bluff is overrun with gangs, drugs, violence and murder.
The proposal for anti-sagging is the first step for a long journey this city needs to make to clean up it's image, reputation and streets.
Pine Bluff isn't safe during the daylight hours much less after dark.
And the future isn't looking any better.
If Sheriff Robinson can make this community safer with his ideas and changes, I'll support him.
Whether or not race has influenced some of Sheriff Robinson's demotions , promotions & firings since he took office is anybody's guess. Knowing some of the officers that have left and the circumstances, I'm inclined to believe race is a factor.
I don't know Cpt. Adams personally so I'll leave that one alone.
And all I can say about your dislike of Arkansas and it's people is , there are no gates or fences to stop anybody from leaving and the roads coming in to this state also go out.
I hope to show Arkansas my tail lights for the last time very soon.

As a Ex Deputy of Jefferson County i can say that Gerald Robinson is running his Senior Staff out of the county to seek other jobs due to a Hostile Work Enviroment. Since elected Deputies Mike Powers , D. Ray , Charles Lunsford , Phillip Peckham , Larry Gailey , Jason Wood have left the Department to seek employment in a enviroment where they where not under Hostile Work Conditions. Deputy Lt. Charles Inman was fired after the election because Inman choose to run for Sheriff. Inman was informed that he was not longer needed. Inman was replaced by Ed Adams a dogcatcher. If Jefferson County is to rise above the Racial lines it will have to be done on both sides of the white and black color lines. I keep current on what is going on and hate to see how the Deputies and friends I left behind are being treated by the now Sheriff Gerald Robinson.

Well why is he running off officers when we are scared to leave our homes at night. Check out their website and you will see that Sheriff Robinson had Deputys checking on the elderly when they should be stopping crime. Over 500 Elderly checks and only 2 DWI arrest, what a shame. I understand checking on the elderly but this is what family is for. We need cops on the streets fighting crime and keeping everyone safe taking drunks off the road

I couldn't agree more. All of the officers you mentioned are experienced , qualified and professional and there's no way in hell , they can ever be replaced.
Jefferson County has officially and permanently been converted to the use of the " Brother in Law System " or this case , we should say the " Brother System ". It's not a matter of being capable of filling the shoes of a deputy any longer. It's a matter of having people in high places.
The officers that left on their own were wise to do so.
Their days were numbered and a replacement was already waiting in the wings.
Good luck to you ex and hopefully the remaining officers will soon follow suit and go to a department where their abilities are recognized and appreciated.

You guys are just now finding this forum ?
We have to get another computer with internet in Pine Bluff.
I've always supported , respected and admired the deputies I knew and it irks my ass to see how they've been treated by the new administration.
The loss of Sgt. Powers , Larry Gailin and the many others has left this community vulnerable to any crime imaginable.
Without the professionalism , experience and " team effort " these deputies displayed , Jefferson County has taken several steps......backwards.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Well as you can see from the name above. you people only know some, half or none of the facts. Mike Powers is a damn fine officer. Some of the others left for better money. Some also left due reasons that are their own. Dont get me wrong I agree with you on some of the statements but not all. If you really want to know about things just ask. The sheriff's office is doing good work they clear city cases for people because the citzens know they do their jobs. There are Deputies there that love there job because Jefferson County is there home and they just as dedicated as those that left just as respected and just as white as the others that left. I know for a fact that these Deputies are not "yes men" or " brown nosers " so again you only know half the story.

Ok , why did so many long time deputies abruptly leave JCSO when the new admin. took over ? Why was Lt. Inman fired or told he was no longer needed after dedicating so many years to this county?
Since when did JCSO escort the UAPB football team to out of state events.....such as Atlanta ?
When did JCSO vehicles get " tricked out " ?
Why did Sheriff Robinson refuse to promote Sgt. Powers to Lt. but as soon as Powers left, a new LT was named ?
What about Larry Gailin, one of the best deputies this county has ever had ? Here today, gone today.
Shortly after elected,
Sheriff Robinson was quoted as saying " I will have a regime of black deputies ". What did that statement mean ?
I already know the answer , I'd just like to see if you do.

when I left the Dept, it was prior to the current problems and current admin. I have seen though that Robinson house burned down and that during the rebuild an officer was posted 24/7 for security. Does this not cross a line? Does he have the right to security when the public does not? He has said these where volunters but I know for a fact these where officers taken from the street paid to protect the public. When you take 1 deputy from a 2 or 3 man grave yard shift you take alot from the streets. Our crime is to high to place a Deputy on personal security detail. You just try calling our beloved Sheriff and ask for a 24 hour detail to secure your home after a break in. He had one for months.. for free. Anyone else would have to pay 20 $ or more an hour to hire a Deputy.....

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Virgo

Someone is easily angered today, and you'll want to tiptoe around them at every opportunity. They might be on the defensive and imagine that you're getting at them all the time, or they could be quick to point the finger of blame straight at you. It won't be an easy day, but try not to get swept up in the emotional dramas that are swirling around you. They'll only exhaust you.
