Tried to support the Keeseville IGA from the start though I feel the quality as well as quantity and varieties of groceries are being sacrificed.
While driving in the parking lot it is not maintained. Often times hard to find a place to park especially on Sunday morning church goers.
Walking in the front door the appearance is friendly but not too inviting.
Grocery items often outdated.
I know there are hard times all around and especially perhaps in Keeseville.
I believe the Village and Town officials as well as other business owners need to step up to the plate and promote this town before it vanishes.
This would include the Ausable Chasm, IGA, Hardware store, Maxwells, Pray's, area dining as well as anyone who wants to jump on board and ask for a brochure or booklet made and even coupons.
ANYTHING, to support Keeseville.
JayCee park has much room to support local farmer's markets, flea markets, antique and vintage car show.
Let's all work together as Village, township, taxpayers, citizens and save Keeseville. Let's help save these business's from closing and getting in debt to offer much needed services.
IDEA: IGA & Hardware store share the grass space in between and have a bbq and charge. Have a lawn sale with items, balloons, antique cars, radio station andything to help your business's and give back to the community and give Keeseville something to feel positive again.
I believe there is hope.
Let's step up to the plate and not just talk anymore.

we can be hopeful all we want and yes i am as well but where are the people to support these business do they go in each place and support them. we all live in keeseville and i know i do give to all the business in town but i never see others doing the same. we have to support everyone to make it better and work. we can say this will work and that will work until we are blue in the face but having it happen is the next thing. people would rather and talk about the next person and bring them down and make rude comments about people instead of really trying to support others. usally the ones who have nothing better to do with there lives.

The IGA started out to big with to many employees. They should of took a couple of aisles out and set some tables in back near deli and set up large quantities of sale items in rest of area. This is a small town, you cannot keep up with the large stores on their variety of items. I to go to the IGA at least 2 times a week, but most of the time cant find what I want. I never minded waiting in line to pay. Most stores you have to wait anyways. I do hope the store gets on its feet. We need a grocery store.

Interesting and thanks for enlightening the taxpayers. It is really appreciated. Will probably now support another business. Been wanting to do that anyhow and the same is true with other business in the Town of Chesterfield. Grant money spent on perhaps family vacations or retirement. Not in the business that's for sure.

The highest pay elected official in the villege of keeseville is the Chesterfield Supervisor over $48,000.00 per year. Before he was elected it was a part time position he made it full time so he could pocket more money and do less. He gave all the town alarm contracts to his brother security concepts you will see the truck at the town of chesterfield office daily and the two brother discussing bussiness in the supervisors office on vine street. This is the headquaters of organized crime in keeseville. People wonder why keeseville is in such bad shape. The community does not have a chance with these people taking all the funds that were meant to improve the community. Its time to change the Town of Chesterfield from the top down. New supervisor in 2010 we can do it.

Sounds as if you have something against the brothers more than you have a problem with how the town is run. I'm sure he couldn't have just decided on his own to make his position full time and "he gave all the town alarm contracts to his brother". You must be refering to the one system that they do have at the town of chesterfield itself. Stop complaining and run for supervisor yourself if your so damn concerned.

Would this be a conflict of interest though in government when relatives obtain contracts?
Did these contracts go out for bid?
Were the relatives the lowest bid?
Is there a law in government where work has to be advertised and then put out for bid?
Would like to know these answers in general though not a resident of the town of Chesterfield as am seeing this in the next village over and with other entities.
Would like to call this the good ole' buddy system and I don't blame people for getting upset as they don't seem to have a say or voice in government only to elect new officials every 2 or 4 years or when a position comes open.
Having the concerned citizen run against these officials would it change anything?
Your thoughts?

So in legal terms. The there is not such thing as the "Good Ole' Buddy System" as it seems like a conflict of interest and perhaps against the General Municipal Law as above mentioned. If indeed this information correct then the people of these municipalities should step up to the plate and correct this?

Who would enforce the General Municipal Laws of the State of New York? Would these super cede Town And Village Laws?

Why are these laws not enforced such as the General Municipal law in regards to junk yards / salvage yards / vehicle dismantling shops in this area and why such an array of openness and no proper fencing or enforcement by all 3 townships & village?

Any input greatly appreciated.

There should be a law stopping elected officials in the town of chesterfield from using tax money and grant funds to enrich themselfs and thier family businesses. This is a disgrace to public service. The current situation in chesterfield is destroying the community. The most important race going on in chesterfield is which elected offical can take the most public funds for themselfs. Residents who go to the town office for anything are commonly treated like trash.

The next time voting for the councilmen in the town of Chesterfield we need to vote every one of them out. Around town their called bobbleheads, just shake their heads yes every time Morrow says something. All their in there for is the free health insurance. I pay taxes for their health care and cant even afford my own. Whats fair about that.

Does anyone know why the large white truck with IGA written on the side is parked outside the Chesterfield Town Office at 1 Vine st at all hours of the night, with a light on in one small office. Should the police be called?

Though not a resident of Town of Chesterfield you are so correct. This is not just the Town of Chesterfield however, the Town I would imagine and Village as well.
It's about time there is new blood and shake things up and butt some heads.
It would not to cause trouble but rather stand up for what is right and the best interest of the people.
One forgets why they got elected.
To represent the people.
Health insurance is another forum.
Would run out of room in this response that's for sure.

A tragic accident recently claimed the life of Travis Capen who meant a lot to our family during our involvement at with the AVCS Wrestling Program as well as off the mats.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

I realized though after a memorial service at AVCS how many things may be taken for granted.

In any town USA it's not about the problems of the community, which business is in operation now or how well that business is doing or will do in the future. Perhaps not about the drug problem of this community or politics even. It is about the people that care in which make a community.

A particular local business made a food donation recently to the losses of our community.

I am speaking of Bruce of the IGA who has given the shirt off his back to help this community many times and most recently to the losses of our community.

These forums are about the people. People that care enough to speak out. It is about the people of the community that try to make a difference in opening up a business or running for an office that try to make a difference in our communities which can be in any town USA!

It may even be about that neighbor that says hi! or helps another.

There will always be politics, drugs, economy problems, eyesores, tragic accidents that happen in any town USA.

It is about the people that make a difference. About the memories that one can make a community grow and flourish.

I am one that has taken many of this for granted and even posted a forum or responded to one. Will probably continue to do so.

But one thing I can say. I do care about this community and give thanks to the memories that will continue to make Keeseville a better place to be!

Any Town,

While i share your sympathy and prayers for the officer's friends and family, lets not compare apples and oranges here.

What happened to Travis was tragic no doubt, and i did not know him so i will limit this to only what you wrote. Travis did something for the Town and its residents by helping the wrestling program. I am involved in various Gov't programs for my job and as a resident of the Village of Keeseville. Are you ivolved in making Keeseville and Chesterfield a better place to live?

Bruce has his business and is a wonderful person to meet and talk to. He and i get along quite well. That has nothing to do with this forum.... The point of this is that yes, there will always be challenges in towns, but they do not have to be endorsed by our local officials. IF YOU DO NOTHING TO STOP IT, YOU, IN TURN, ARE IN FAVOR OF IT. And not you personally, i mean our elected officials.

Point is, memories are splendid. and i am most gracious of people that share those memories of this area with me, but what memories are there of now. What kind of memories are being made now with those same buildings and places youy speak of. I bet they are not so pleasant and bright.

Please do not take this as a personal offense, i mean none. It is only meant to open yours, and in turn, people that read this, eyes and ears and do something about OUR NEIGHBORHOOD!

I feel Keeseville itself in the Townships and Village are bleak these days.

1 : exposed and barren and often windswept
2 : cold, raw <a bleak November evening>
3 a : lacking in warmth, life, or kindliness : grim b : not hopeful or encouraging : depressing <a bleak outlook> c : severely simple or austere
synonyms see DISMAL

However, with all the bleakness I feel sometimes it's a simple gesture such as a hand shake or smile that helps or a donations of time or helping out with a task.
So it made me realize a business may suffer due to wideswept economical trying times all over there is still kindness in this world.
Not comparing apples to oranges. Was just impressed with the generous donation of Bruce even though I see bleakness in the IGA just looking at the shelves.
Having raised a family in this town and a business and volunteering for many organizations to help be a role model to the children of our future as well as grandchild and lending that helping hand yes I can hold my head up high.
Yes, I do speak up when I see a problem however, sometime it's not that easy getting things down in the Townships or Village.
Again, not comparing apples to oranges.
With the recent losses in our community and around us and getting older myself I feel life is too short and live each day in a positive manner where one can look up to you and have memories they can too carry on.
Realize you can't always fight City Hall so do what is right in our hearts and and keep peace in this world and do good in this world and perhaps build a legacy for ones to carry on when we are gone.
As for the future of Keeseville. I feel it's up to each and everyone of us to do our part in helping to keep Keeseville on the map. To bring Keeseville into the next generation. One can do it all. It might be neighbor helping neighbor, a smile, a hand shake, clean up day, welcoming new business, promoting existing business, networking business, a community calendar, a community cookbook, a community about the town what there is offered, a farmers market, flea market, block party, community watch program, cops helping to keep drugs off our streets, awareness to our young children about what drugs can do, a bike safety course.
If each one of us can do a little it would help a lot.
May we learn from the losses of our community and look back at what Keeseville was and vision what Keeseville can be. May we carry on those legacies.

Hi.A concerned citizen turned me on to this site.It is good but there is a lot of wrong info out there. There are no IGA grants. The IGA borrowed 180,ooo from the Village revolving loan fund, same fund that helped Maxwell's get going. As we pay it back, the money goes into a pool so other people interested in going into business can obtain the capital. I believe but am not sure that the repayment schedule and history of payment is open to viewing.I am not the manager but the owner.I am not the treasurer but the tax collector.I work from Jan thru May 1 in that capacity.I will also answer any questions to the best of my ability on any matters concerning local history or government.I leave it to the reader if they choose to believe it or not. Thanks

We are blessed with our power to vote them out. Maybe we can get someone in office that will share public information with the voters. Many concerned chesterfield residents were told grant money was used. The people that issue the ferderal grant money will know the real story. If i get it I will post it here for all to see.
