KUDOS to the Valdosta Daily Times for finally bringing the spotlight on how aweful the working conditions are at Valdosta State Prison!

I am finally pleased that the community is going to reconize that VALDOSTA STATE PRISON is a horrible work environment that does not take care of thier officers that put there lifes on the line every day. My husband was one of the two officers that saved SGT. Bonds life that day and they never even called me to tell me my husband was transported to South Georgia Medical. I received the phone call 4 hours later from my husband in the E.R upset that I wasn't there. I hope that the the prison administration has realized that they have lost all control and is working on a solution to fix it. Someones husband, wife, mother or father will end up dying out there at VSP if we as a community don't do some thing about it. As many incidents that have occured out there in the past three years, the inmates are going to take over and then how would we feel having convicted MURDERS, RAPISTS and CHILD MOLESTERS out on the streets where we live???? These are inmates that are supposed to be housed in a max secutity prison that the state of GA housed in a close security prison. Most of the inmates are lifers and extreme mental health and don't care whos family or life they distroy. I know from personal experience that its HARD trying to recover from a HORRIBLE incident that could have been avoided if administration or fellow officers were willing to comply with the OATH that they took before their duty as C.O's. I could go on and on about how this entire situation has created many heartaches in numerous ways. What it truely boils down to is that there is ABSOLUTLY no control over the inmate behavior and like children, they will continue to push the authority until the authority puts their foot down and refuses to give in to unacceptable behavior. Alot can be done about the prison work environment so that everyone including our community is safe. What people don't realize is that all of this is happening in our backyard as a community.

1 The GDC needs to send down a team of auditors and get a new warden. Its obvious the current warden cant handle his job. |

You are right in one way, There have been upper management that were inmate lovers. But, you don't have to abuse your power. The officers at VSP have not been allowed to use all the tools they have at their disposal. This frustrates the line staff. The tools to bring VSP back to a safer place are there but are not being used. |
