I'd make another comment about how I love this event as I can see peoples that make me proud of my native lineages by seeing the young people that still take pride in their ancestry instead of sitting around, becoming overweight while at the casino trough, but I'm sure it will get deleted again. The MR must really watch those so they don't lose casino advertising.

What happened to basic reporting. So it is Saturday and Sunday? And that would be what date? Not that it matters to me. We take our dogs every where. We don't mind leaving the booze, smoke and weapons at home but simply don't want to leave the dogs behind.

Yeah, I was kind of bummed with the no animals, but thinking about it, the elaborate dress could spook some animals. In addition, dogs barking could be distracting during some of the ceremonies.

I'm amazed my first post stands. Deleting the remark from the other thread was totally bogus.

The funny thing is there were dogs at this event several in fact. The only problem I had when I was there is that I got in trouble for taking photos. While other people were taking photos to. But none of them were told to stop or delete their photos. This was my first visit to the pow wow and possibly my last. Why single out one person for taking photos when there were others doing the same.

Because the people taking photos probably asked permission first. Or were family members of whom they were taking photos of.

You should always ask before you take someones photo you don't know. ALWAYS

Actually I know for a fact two of the women were not family. Because they asked me if they were allowed to take photos of the ceremony. When I said no they went ahead and took them anyways. And common photography ethics says to always ask permission that is something I am very aware of. The fact I was singled out is the issue here.

Wow! Some interesting distribe going on here. As for pets, one should not bring dogs to a pow wow unless your offering them up for a feast. Old tradition there. Offering your favorite dog for a feast was showing respect. And they do crap and a lot of owners aren't thoughtful enough to pick up after them. Those who brought dogs should have been asked to take them home. Taking pictures of Grand entry and group dancing is okay to do. One should never take the picture of an individual without first asking if it's okay and then offering to give the subject a copy. Most of us do like our pictures taken. Gourd Dancing is rarely allowed to be photographed. Out here ( California) we treat it as a sacred ceremomy, even though it is almost always an "open" gourd dance. I was allowed to have my Gourd session videoed inorder to send it to my son serving in Irag at the time. Even though I am a Gourd Dancer I first asked permission from the other Gourd Dancers, MC and Arena Diector. The MC then announced to the audience why it was being allowed on that special occasion. If the MC or arena director, an especially a Gourd Dancer, sees someone taking pictures without prior approval, we will ask them to stop. If they continue their camera can be confiscated. Pow wows are social events and all are truly welcomed. We do have traditions and most of us ( decendants of the Ancient Ones) try to adhere to those traditions. Unfortunately not everyone does so. One should also never walk in front of an elder nor interupt one when they are speaking. Anytime a "Tradional" dance or "Honoring" is being done one should stand and remove their hat ( unless they are wearing an Eagle feather). So, one and all ,please come enjoy our pow wows and have a great time. Apologizes to anyone who was offended. Jerry S.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Libra

Don't try to do too much at once today or you'll disappear up you know what! You're all fingers and thumbs, accident-prone and things start breaking. It won't help if you're trying to concentrate at work and a certain chatterbox doesn't know when to shut up. Ask them to be quiet but try not to sound shrewish.
