Fact is, an inmate, in the custody of the Sheriff's department died and a family was forever changed. The department had complete control over this inmate, as he was locked in a cell, but seemed to turn their back at his begging for help. Whether that constitutes negligence on the part of the jailers, sheriff or malpractice on the part of the nurse practitioner who gave the man an injection (btw, nobody seems to know why she was even there), or lack thereof will be left for the court to decide. In my opinion, when a person is in the custody of the jail, said person is at the mercy of that facility, and that negates any amount of personal freedom he/she has to make choices for his/her own safety and well-being. It becomes the duty of the facility to maintain that person's life, unless sentenced to death, upon such a time as that is carried out. It is not the sheriff's duty to execute judgment and/or punishment not ordered by the court. Neglecting a person which leads to said person's death denotes negligible homicide. But as I stated earlier, it will be up to a jury to make that final decision as to negligence or otherwise. We can only speculate given the heresay and evidence we are exposed to. This has nothing to do with Mr. Beaty, the county courts constant bickering, or who holds what appointed office. Stick to the point and stop wasting people's time by trying to change the subject. Through my own experience, Fentress county has long had some serious problems in its jail and court system. People can do hardly anything and be crucified and constantly harrassed by the system of "money talks, bullshit walks." While others seem to be able to get away with anything and everything and never spend a moment in jail or pay a dime in fines. While I realize, no system is ever perfect, I can only hope, "the pendelum will swing in the favor of justice this time!"

Let's rent the Jordon for the inmates and offer room service. If you will send these inmates to a place that is hard on them and that they don't like they might stay out of jail. Well at least the Fentress County Jail. They need to be put outside in a tent go to bed at dark got up at day light, feed them beans and water three times a day and put them on the north end of a south bound shovel digging one day and fill it back in the next. That will put a stop to this SH!t.

Someone lost their life. I dont think it's something to joke about. One day we will all have to answer for our sins and it will be the maker we answer too. No one has the right to judge anyone else. I hardly think u all are sinless urself.

You can ALL see..The 'good' fighting, the evil... Those that see this as a way to cause "more" conflict....Pray for mercy... "Some" will seek every opportunity to defend, what is wrong, or sould I say a crime. Connect the dots !

The point is an inmate died while begging for his life in jail. Regardless of the issue surrounding it, when you have a person under your complete authority and control, you are responsible for that person's well-being, otherwise his demise. That is not heresay, that is fact! And, hopefully justice will be served.

I wonder if this lawsuit will make the front page of the Courier tomorrow? After all the DB suit made the front page and wasn't nearly as big as this federal suit. Hmmm... But then again they've gotta protect Tony and his reputation. That's what we call keepin' it in the family. Wink, wink.

Wow,that far back there were people complaining about the jail situation.About a dozen years later, some people are saying there is no problems..Also a Grand Jury inspected the jail, and said it was time to build. Now think about this for a second..If someone sues the county because it is too full, they sure would have some good ammo to support their position.Sure glad the CC is building one or we would be in big trouble with lawsuits. Someone must be telling you this since I believe you said you moved in here in 2003.Jb was in there 8 years plus FRank is going on 2.You just missed Db!How regrettable that must be for you.

I have a copy of the minutes..That is how I know there was a time limit set when DB was CE,and that a FC citizen was complaining about the condition of the jail..

Plus DB wrote a letter, that is also in the record, telling all about his rules and time limit". Anyone can get copy, look in record book, 1998 to 1999 the first year he was in office.

Green Hornet 007 wrote: <quoted text> You make some valid points except for two..I will address them..Corruption? You will have to prove it.Do I agree with everything that is said and done? No..But corruption,I just do not see it. Secondly, the state is the one that is forcing us to build,so wondering how we are affording a JC is not a eye opener.. The part about restoring the York school, you are correct..I was not in favor of restoring it.I believe it was too late to try.I do believe that our pressing the state to restore the school got many of the state reps looking at the current York school financing and wanted to change it..You are right..A lot of times it is a good idea to just stay quiet,or they will find more negative things to hit us with in the future. But sometimes you just have to. I do not mean this to be rude but for the last 8 or 9 years you have lived here you would have had to have had your head stuck ten feet under the ground. You seem like a good person but please open your eyes!
