if the county has take over york, you won't have to worry about that choice much longer.

if not...unless you live IN clarkrange, the choice is york.

They will the 1/2 the school alright ..... because 1/2 of the current YAI and the other 1/2 will be from where Clarkrange is shutdown and all those students moved to YAI. I hope that don't ever happen but if the county has to ever take over York, it will happen.

I went to Clarkrange over York and I got a much better education I had friends at York that I helped do math because the teachers at York would not even teach it all of my teachers at Clarkrange were really great teachers and actually care about the students York doesn't because they are just worried about that money from the state...not to mention state benefits. It's bull. York is a terrible school. I was top of my class and got great scholarships because Clarkrange cares

At least most of the students at Clarkrange go to class and aren't in the bathroom shooting IVs and doing each other like the majority of the students at York!

No I believe most will be found in the gym playing ball. It doesn't matter if you learn much as long as you can play ball.Ball is subject #1. Education will come later.

there has been a study done on this. by looking at the study it is obvious that york outperforms nearly every year in scholarships, ACT scores, college graduation rates, ect...

if you want your girl to play ball, send her to clarkrange

if you want your child to succeed, send her to york

not an opinion, based on a study done by the Department of Education.

according to the study, york ranks #2 in the entire upper cumberland, only Cookeville High School ranks higher across the board

Bro the only reason for that is because they kick the dumb kids out! At least Clarkrange tries to help every kid graduate!

Plus not everyone at clarkrange plays fuckin basketball! Some people go on to do something. Kids from York go on to be some of the many dopehead that infest Jamestown.

I used to go to York. I moved because I didn't really like it, but it is a good school when it comes to academics. It has its positives as well as its negatives.
Positives:
The students tend to have higher scores. There was a kid who attends YAI who had a nearly perfect ACT score. I know a sophomore there who made a 32, which is very high when you consider the highest you can get is a 36 which is practically unattainable. They have a large percentage of their student making in the high twenties and low thirties when most kids score in the high teens on it.
There is a lot of school pride at York. At the games and pep rallies there is an overall sense of togetherness that is hard to come by at many schools.
It is the only state-funded public high school in Tennessee, and while that may soon change, it is still something that makes colleges take notice.
There are a lot of scholarships given to YAI students.
There are opportunities for Dual Credit classes at YAI for FREE, whereas most students in other schools pay hundreds of dollars for.
There are teachers there that genuinely care for the education and welfare of their students. While that may not be the case with all the teachers there, there is a significant number of those teachers.
You have an opportunity to learn either Spanish or Chinese, whereas in a lot of schools of the size you can only learn Spanish.
They offer classes for those who don't learn as quickly.
Negatives:
If you are not a basketball player, teacher's child, or cheerleader you tend to get overlooked by a lot of the staff.
There are far too many fights for a school environment.
Some of the dual credit courses could be run better.
There is a lot of smoking and such in the parking lot after school.
No, the kids don't have sex in the bathrooms, at least to the knowledge of anyone I know, which is most of the student population. However, there are a lot of sexually active kids as well as kids who go out and party all the time. I wouldn't say, though, that there are any more than at CHS.

Anyway, that's just a few of the positives and negatives of YAI. I moved because I didn't like it, but even I have to admit that, academically speaking anyway, it is a good school. In fact, when it comes to academics it's much better than CHS. I have known a couple straight-A students from CHS that moved to YAI and began failing basic classes. It's merely more academically intensive at YAI than CHS.

im still not sure where im sending my children yet. York used to be the natural choice( my husband and i both graduated from there) but over time, i have come to not like the direction York has taken. Ive heard awful stories about student and teacher behavior, drug use, teen pregnancy, etc. I know i cant sheild my children from everything( trust me, i dont).

Also, Clarkrange really impressed me with their Senior Night, they honored EVERY Senior from basketball, baseball, jrotc, chess, etc. York only acknowledges basketball players.

Lady there are drugs and teen pregnancy in both schools. You just have to teach them the best you can and pray for the best.Senior night would be about the stupidest reason I have heard yet.

why is honoring all seniors stupid? a senior on the chess team or track and field team deserves their accomplishments to be honored as well. At York only the basketball and football(in the fall) players get recognized. I know its a small thing but it made an impression ON ME. I didnt say it impressed YOU, so chill out Mike......lol.

That would probably be up to the teacher over these other sports if they choose to be part of senior night. That would play a very small role if I was choosing a school.
