does anyone think that the pumpkin festival is going downhill? no more decorations like there was a few years ago and the vendors keep going away because price to set up is to high just for the small vendors. we need to get this thing back going and elect new members to make this bigger than ever, it is very good for this area and brings money here. does anyone know where all the money goes from vendor fees? new board members needed!!!!!

Yes its gone down hill no cooking contest anymore, most festivals involving food have that, high set up fees has driven people away and 1 day now why dont they just stop it? Sounds like the people over it are lazy and if they dont have time pass it on to someone who does and will breath some life back into it cause the present peolple are ruining it.

I had guests from out of state, as I usually do for the festival. They left this year shaking their head in disbelief. Everyone was saying" what happened? If this is what we have to offer the throngs of people that travel long distance, as well as the locals, we need to call it quits.

Glad for the interest here. We will post the next meeting date. Come out and help us. Glad to get new folks with lots of energy in the mix. See our page on Facebook and keep up with the latest news and info. We have had one new person show up and actually help in the past couple of years. Most people don't have time or interest to fool with it. So yes it is in decline because the loyal workers -- with no compensation -- are tired.

Vendor fees, car show fees, beauty pageant fees help fund various things like the weigh-off prizes; ribbons; scale rental; port-a-potties; three sound systems; chair, table, and tent rentals;parking attendants; fireworks, garbage pick-up throughout Allardt; security;professional entertainment; advertisement; brochure printing and distribution; etc. No committee members, event chairmen, or volunteers are paid anything for their time and efforts. Come out and help us. If you want to keep this event going, come to the meetings and offer your assistance. We do the best we can with the workers we have available.

the only complaint I have is my grandmother is in a wheelchair and we had to park very far away and had a hard time getting her around with all of the gravel. I don't expect you all to go in and pave it but I don't know what you could do to make it more accessible for handicap people. She also could not get in the bathroom bc there was no ramp. We had to drive to a gas station. We ended up just leaving.

Everyone wants to complain but no one wants to fix it or offer a solution. I thought it was as good to be expected, everyone puts forth effort....but it is never good enough. We are greedy, my Lord they don't charge for the entrance into the festival and they don't charge for parking. What in the world else would you like them to do? Come and pick up your lazy butt in a golf cart? Seriously!?!? Give it a rest! What else are we gonna start complaining about...having to actually THINK?

And my fuss was about the first commenter not the grandma in the wheel chair....they DO NEED better handicap access. THAT IS A LEGIT COMPLAINT!

my family used to put at least three classic cars in the show every year, and we loved the festival so much, but this year we did not even come because who ever did it last year and this year does not judge it fairly... if you have a brand new camero in the show, and you let the festival queen pick her favorite car, then the real classic cars dont stand a chance, and after as many people put there cars in the show and pay 10 or 15 dollars a pop... why is there only 2 trophies? Just not fair, so we went to Burkesville KY and won top ten in a judged by participants show. Thats about as fair as it could get I think.

My opinion is that yes there could be positive changes to the Pumpkin Festival but if you are not a part of the solution dont complain about the problems. If there was a open meeting to get volunteers maybe this would help? Also the fees are a little expensive for the smaller vendors maybe there could be a sliding scale for local craft vendors compared to the bigger set ups. The car show does need some new direction with a better class/ parking system and new judging process. We entered a car several years ago and there was no distinction in the classes. Make people Register before hand and set up parking spots for the different categories! The Pumkin Festival is a big event for our county that generates much needed revenue! What about adding concerts not just from locals but from bigger names? Charge admission to help pay for it or better yet pick a Charity and donate the procedes to and I bet you could find some one to donate their time a lot of country stars do this! There are so many things that could improve and make bigger but with out support its hard to do by yourself I understand! But with out actively trying to get more volunteers that is basically saying "we" dont need any help!

I loved it as always. Its free to go look at all the neat things, the parking is free, everyone is so friendly and my favorite part the fireworks to wrap up the day. I think the people who organized it do a hell of a job on a limited budget, please keep it up. Me and my family look forward to it every year.

can someone please tell me why the city of allardt would turn away vendors every year? the more vendors means more money and more people and more things for people to enjoy! please do not say that no room is available to put people there is plenty of room around if you will look for it and work with the people in the area. many music makers around the area would be proud to come here and play music for free, no reason to pay them if they will play for free!!!!! most musicians that play alot already has sound systems that can be used so no reason to pay for that!!!!! the city of allardt already has employees that are hired by the city to take care of trash pickup so no extra cost for that!!!!!! security is provided by the rescue squad for a very minimal fee and they should probably be paid more for what they do!!!!! the city of allardt as many years as this has been going on should surely not be renting chairs and tables for this event they should be owned, and if this is not that way than we definitly need someone else taking care of the money!!!! advertise on places that are free and as long as this has been going on people know that it is oct.1st, if it is fun they will not forget, but the way it is going they will!!!! i have to agree on one thing that porta potties will have to be rented, so quit complaining and do what is right with the money and we will all in allardt be better for it. current admin need to step down and new people will come in to help but nobody will help until that happens!!!!!

What about a talent show open to any age group? If we have the sound system from a band they could use that or how about Kareoke (spelling?) get up on stage and sing your favorite song for 25 or 50 cents? Might be fun for all.
This was my first festival and I had a good time. It's nice to see something offered to the public for free entry and parking. It really was a family day and although I thought some of the prices were a little high (esp if you have several children)- it was still a good deal.

We've been to at least 1/2 or more of the festivals, traveling an extremely long way from Pikeville, KY. I can say that unfortunately, yes, both my mother and I were disappointed this year. This has been a highlight each year that we have both looked forward to, yet, I have this year wondered, after this festival, if we would be coming back... I was amazed that even the parade had fallen "mightidly" short, with no schools bands like previously before... Please don't lose your precious Pumpkin Festival, it has been a part of our lives and hearts.

No marching bands for many years now. Unfortunately there are no school bands here any longer. The music departments have been cut because of budgeting issues.
