This organization euthanizes more animals than they claim to. The conditions at the stray center are dirty and unsanitary for all the animals housed there before going to the main shelter for testing. The floors are constantly wet and the animals have to sleep in deplorable conditions. I have seen this first hand but I don't know how to get the information out. The main shelter is contaminated with ringworm. So many other things I know but just need some ideas to to help these animals. Another thing is misappropriation of funds by the Director. He was receiving a full paycheck from the shelter instead of filing a claim for disability from the shelters insurance company. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Hope everyone has a nice evening.
This is true, a scam, money they do take in is used for animals as intended, I'd like to know what the salary is of the Director, and managers. The second hand shop is a joke, I wonder if even 10% of income is used as intended.

I heard they ate the cats there.

Also, any nonprofit legally only has to use 10% of donations for whatever service they are providing. The rest usually goes into everybody's pockets. Most of those things are just running scams and preying on people's emotions to get donations.

I have (heard) that the manager at the thrift store alone makes just about $39,000 a year. So move up the scale from there.

As a fellow volunteer I stamped envelopes(his paycheck) whilst he was on sick leave for his cancer treatments. You could tell it was his payroll check. So is that where the donors money was going the WHOLE time? Yeh, the hell with the animals I guess right? Mabby, maybe you need to open your eyes and see the things for what they are before commenting on things you have no clue on since you"volunteer" at the STRAY center and not at the Strunk Rd location.
AMY would NEVER, you hear me,NEVER alow a volunteer handle any form of payroll including checks. I'm a volunteer for the shelter @ strunk road and i can't tell you that the statement above is pure monkey shine @ best!!!

The conditions @ the shelter are prime, the animals are well cared for, there is some discourt among the staff and mgmt, but that's with any employer. This DOES NOT affect the quality of life for the animals in anyway, the job always get done on a DAILY basis!!

So what about some of the donations going to Community Helping Hands? Is that a lie? If so, then the manager of Second Chances is a liar as well, because I heard her say that myself, while I was shopping at the store. Is her name Tara? I heard her say they sent 100 truck loads over to CCH. 100 truck loads of things intended for the benefit of the shelter that went somewhere else. That's real nice.......rrrrrr..........She also stated that she was trying to appropriate another store, so they could run the $1.00 bags like Community Helping Hands, as they (CHH) made $7,000 in just three days. How much of that $7000 was originally meant for the animals at the shelter. And Mabby, you can judge me clueless and nuts if you like, but what I have said is true.
i got a cat there and had a wondeful experince there but as for the Money part if what you say is true you do what you need to do because that is just wrong

I've worked in shelters for years. Not this one mind you, but it seems like you see this debate going on about pretty much every shelter in existence. As for the thrift shop giving away donations to other organizations - most get more than they can sell and it's that or the dumpster. I would much prefer my donation go to another organization then get thrown away.

When you donate to any organization you have to realize that not all the money is going towards what you would think. 10% sounds about right. The money going to administrative costs are a large chunk of any not-for-profit (management, the accountant, the director, insurance on the building, and insurance to cover the employes as well as volunteers should they get injured). After that you have maintenance costs for the building and grounds, marketing, setting up fund raisers. After all this very little goes to the animals, but as I said that's with any shelter.

If you are really concerned with where donations are going you can request to see the shelter's tax documents. Under law they have to provided them should they be requested, or file a Form 4506-A with the IRS if you can't get them from the shelter.

If you believe any of that stuff crucial is saying, you are extremely dumb. I volunteer there as i have for 4 years now and my family has been volunteering there for almost ten years. None of that is true. They are a no kill if needed shelter. they only put the animals that cant be saved or rehablitated to sleep. I dont see why the CCHS is on this gossip website. everything on this site is lies. Honestly that is a very good shelter and there is no ringworm problem and it is completely clean

i recall a time when i went in to adopt a cat and there weren't any available. i was told by a volunteer that all of the cats were being treated for mange. i also know that they are a "no need to kill" shelter which means they do kill animals that do not meet adoption qualifications.

i had to go to the stray center to pick up my dog that got away for me. when i went in to get him the kennel he was in was completely wet and there was soggy food in the back of it. even if it was just cleaned you would think they would dry it a little instead of leaving the dogs laying in water. i feel bad for the dogs that are stuck in that place for days and days.
