I graduated from JCC in "79" and have traveled all over the world in the U.S. Navy. I now live in San Diego, CA. I don't really think that people follow very many stories outside of the area that they live in so your "Sanity" remains Safe and Intact.

Chautauqua County does seem to make the news now and then for dubious things. It really is a beautiful place though. I some really good times and great memories from this area. I love it there.

Not Chemung wrote: <quoted text>We do make the news on ocassion, For one reason only. It is beautiful here, and it is a peaceful neighborhood. With little bad news to report. So when a Nushawn Williams or a Bucky Phillps shows up. It makes headlines, Or when a person goes missing it is big news here, so it gets reported. Like a magnifying glass on a glass of water. We don't have armed gangs in our schools or people that kill their friends and their friends kids, and stuff them in washers and dryers. We don't have eleven year old girls being gang raped, We don't have rings of car theives running wild. I could go on about current national news. But I think you get the jest of it. And Thank you for saying you have good memories of this place. I'll never live anywhere else. So, true. It was a good place for my kids to grow up. The crime rate is half that of some places I've lived. It's nice to be able to not have to worry about walking out of your home at night and get either harrassed by crack dealers, as I used to on my way to work at 4:30AM or worry about being car jacked or some dumb shit that goes on in big cities. So, you don't have WiFi in every little joint, it's a pleasant trade to not have to deal with the hustle and bustle and riff raff, right?

I guess the celebrity of it all merits that. And he probably purchased all that extra footage from all the people who sent in cards and money. Foodstamps are up, pork bellies down. Sell, sell, sell!

No need to thank me for remembering my great childhood memories in Chautaugua county. When the area made the news recently I was surprised. I wish it was for better reasons and I certainly wish there was no loss of life. Oddly enough the place it happened is quite close to where I spent my summers. And shortly after that it made the news again when they found Yolanda Bindic's body not to far from my former summer home. I wish there was happier endings to both stories. Good and bad things happen everywhere. On the flip side you had Lucille Ball hail from your neck of the woods. She loved Jamestown and used to refer to it fondly all the time on her tv show. I used to love hearing that when I was a little kid!

I can still smell the fresh air. I ended up living in ChauCo for a long time as an adult. Am homesick for the turning leaves right now the sights and smells. Here is another thing I remember....Twin Fair on Vinyard Dr in Dunkirk when there were still vineyards around it.

Yes, I remember the smell of fresh air too. I loved the sound of the cows and chickens. Our neighbor had a rooster that crowed all the time. I remember swimming in ponds and lakes all by ourselves. We used to have big fires in a fire pit in the yard and toast marshmellows. There is somethig so peaceful about that. It was a time in my life that had nothing to do with pressure or the grind of making money and working in corporate america. Sometimes I wish I could go back to those days again. Yes, memories...

I wasn't so concerned about my kids getting picked off by the filthy predators that lurk in the city, too. I miss fishing for Muskie and being able to get somewhere w/o a traffic jam. I actually miss going out on the weekends, eating chicken wings @.10 cents a piece and seeing people that knew me and were friendly. Even going to the grocery, you always ran into someone you knew.

Not Chemung wrote: <quoted text> Memories yep. I can appreciate that. I live on the lake, but I still know about the other swimming holes around here and the fresh air. We don't have any cows or chickens per say. But Bon fires in the backyard quite often. This is a nice place to come home to after a days work. No Gated communities to live in, walking in peace at night, all that. A Professor in American history, recently told me that in a lot of ways this county is thirty years behind the rest of the Country. Take that however you wish, I love it here. Sounds good to me. I wonder what it's like to be raising teenaged kids out there at present.

Not Chemung wrote: <quoted text> Holy Crap! Twin Fair! Geez, you're as old as me. Thats pretty old, lol. I remember when the Mall was the biggest thing on Fairmont, in Lakewood. Have you been down Fairmont lately? Oh boy Yeah we are vying for the position of old as dirt here. LMFAO. I have been gone from the area since 1997, have only been back in NY 3x since. Once in 99, Olean; last year in NYC; this past March as far as Seneca Hawk. I dont 'do' malls or a whole lot of people. But still am homesick for the smells of autumn in ChauCo.
