An assistant principal at First Coast High School is in jail rather than at her office Monday, accused of stealing cash while working in a concession stand at the Jaguars game.

According to the arrest report, Janelle Porter, 32, was arrested Sunday evening on charges of misdemeanor theft after a surveillance camera recorded her taking money from the cash register and placing it in her pocket.

Police said the camera was installed after cash was missing from that register after the last Jaguars’ home game.

As she was being escorted from the concession stand by two detectives, she dropped a $50 and a $100 bill on the floor of the elevator, according to the report.

Detectives said that while she was being questioned, she had more bills -- including a marked $50 bill placed in the register -- folded in one of her hands.

Police said that Porter admitted to taking $200 from the register on Sunday and $300 from the register during the Jaguars game on Nov. 1.

According to the Duval County jail's Web site, Porter was still in jail Monday morning awaiting her first-appearance hearing.

I just don't get it I would imagine an assistant principal position pays fairly well. She is working a second job and decides a couple hundred dollars is worth her career? What in the world is wrong with our school board? How do they wind up with people who make such poor life choices. I remember many jobs years ago used to check your credit because it showed a lot about the kind of choices you made. It would show if you made bad choices in getting in over your head or were and instant gratification kind of person. We have got to start doing a better job with our teachers. She should have been charged with grand theft since the total was above $300.

I just tried to look it up and I could not locate her in the jail website. Could she have bonded out that quickly? Doesn't that amount make it a felony?

She didn't bond out, she went to her hearing this morning and they let her go on r/r. This was not also a second job for her. We as parents of a local all star cheerleading gym, have a booth at the stadium that we work.In turn money gets donated to the kids at the gym who can not afford it otherwise. There are also some teenagers who work it so the can pay for their own cheerleading and travel expenses. This lady stole from a lot of children. She was trusted by all of the parents and kids who work the booth. I can't beeive he would do this.

Maybe she was following protocall and didn't steal? Maybe they were told to pocket the large bills so there was no theft involved and then turn them over at the end of their shifts? Maybe we're all human.

Except for that whole part of money missing last week and they set up a camera to catch who was stealing. Then there is that whole confession thing where she confessed to stealing several hundred dollars. It kind of throws maybe out the window, but nice try.

Actually, the protocal is opposite as to what you have suggeted. You are supposed to call out to the supervisor or whoever is running money that game and give her any big bills that come through your register at the time they come through. This person knew this because she was the money person at several games. By the way it wasn't just money missing the last two games. It has been several games and alot of money.

She stole....SO WHAT! People make mistakes, Im sure you all have done some things in your past that you're not so proud of. I've always seen this woman as a role model. & I still do because of the simple fact that she is human!

Role models are usually do not steal but then again a parent whom is suppose to be a role model stole food for there child that was hungry(hypothetical example)I believe someone would steal in this case.People usually steal because they our greedy or want to make money off of what they stole unless of course it is already money.People work hard and long hours for their things & money I believe that is why people get angry about theives because they take the easy way out.If she did it only one time it is a mistake but for some people its a way of life even if they already have a decent job. Not saying this about the woman in the article but their are con artist out there that look like innocent church ladies.

Of course what she did was wrong, But like I said she is human(nobodys perfect). & who are we to judge her? Especially when we do not know her situation or what she may have been gowing through. Leave the judging to God.

Was it considered a felony due to the amount?

The amount of money determines whether it's a misdemeanor or felony. She stole enough for it to be a felony.

Please tell me you aren't her defense lawyer. LOL. "Large bills in pocket so there is no theft involved." Now that's funny.
