Ralph Della Crosse was chosen for the post at Arlington Country Day. Longtime Jacksonville teacher, coach and administrator Ralph Della Crosse will be named principal at Arlington Country Day School today. School administrator David Horne said Della Crosse was one of seven candidates that he, his brother Jim and a select committee of administrators interviewed for the position in recent days. "Ralph has leadership skills that we really liked," Horne said. "We're glad to have him on board so that parents can see who will be in charge of the school. We've had a number of parents wanting to know who the principal would be before they enrolled their child here." Horne said the school registered 140 students in the first three days since he and his brother took control of the private school this week. Enrollment will continue through next week. The Horne brothers signed a lease agreement from property owners Ken and Irene Salerno to manage the school for the 2008-09 school year with the option to purchase the property at the end of the year. Della Crosse's first teaching position was at Forrest High School, where he also coached the boys basketball team. From 1996 to 2007, he served as house administrator for A. Philip Randolph Academies of Technology. This year he was an assistant principal at Sandalwood High School before retiring from the Duval County school system at the end of the school year.

We will be open for continued registration on Saturday from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm. Mr. Horne and Mr. Della Crosse will also be there - along with several familiar faces. If you haven't registered this past week, then this would be a good time to come by, ask your questions and register in Room 11. Be informed parents by asking questions from the people who can now talk openly about our visions and our future and you will catch the spirit of "A New Beginning."

I have had the opportunity to have 2 children attend ACDS. One has moved on to college with an academic/athletic scholarship. My son spent his senior year at FCCJ(dual enrollment)another local high school were he was elected Co-Saluditorian.He only took 2 classes at the other high school and the majority of his work was at FCCJ where he maintained a A/B average due to the work ethic and backround education he received at ACDS. Thank you for helping instill the values that make him the young man he has grown up to be. Please keep helping me with my most treasured assets (my children!!).

The final count for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and a few hours on Saturday is 164. That's an average of about 40 per day. Our goal is 350, so we are almost halfway there. Some of the physical changes to the school will begin this upcoming week. Be part of the excitement!

Happy Parent, that is a great idea. If any of you know a family or your child has a friend that was at one time enrolled in the old ACDS and wants to be part of the new ACD. Give them a call. The entire group at ACDS is working very hard to make the Horne Brothers vision of the ACDS become a reality. It is going to be great!

If we reach our goal, we will start a waiting list. Advertising will start soon, directed to new student registrations. Landscaping and other changes are taking place, too.
