While I have no problem with spanking I do see a problem with this. The child was degraded in front of classmates. How could someone do that? I don't care if this child is a problem child or a perfect angel, you don't teach children to belittle people. This is what was done to him/her.What type of role model is this woman? If you want to spank then fine, but first know the difference in beating and spanking and also learn that doing this in front of their peers is not only degrading to the child but I feel it is mental abuse as well

Kudos to Paula Reitan and kbmom. I am glad that my child does not go to a school that promotes violence and mental abuse. But thirty years from now, when the second grader is grown and strong, and the Aunt is older and weeker, I'd like to see her stripped naked in front of her peers and beat with the same belt.

Here we go again! Let's demonize the Aunt, and reward the bad behavior in the child! Perhaps the Aunt was misguided in the way the child was punished (in front of classmates - stripped naked) but give the Aunt credit for trying to instill discipline. Obviously the child was misbehaving and needed correcting. C'mon, let's not lose another generation of kids because we're afraid of hurting their feelings. It takes a village to raise a child, so the Aunt stepped in for the mother!

''It takes a village to raise a child''
does not teach or support beating children with a belt.

Perhaps you were sleeping in class during that part of the course.

Good idea to not name the femi-nazi that did this.

Some "male sympathizer" might pull her pants down and spank her.

On the 50 yard line of the next school football game would be appropriate.

Skipper, as I said she may heve been misguided in her methods but not in her zeal to instill dicipline.

So the teacher stood by and did nothing while this kid's Aunt spanked him in front of the whole class!!!!!
I am sure if the Aunt came in and asked the child to pray the teacher would have thrown her out in a heartbeat.

Right on! I've had it with coddling children with time-out and self-esteem awareness. Fear is an excellent motivator and there's nothing wrong with it. But there's money and power for those who'll tell you that it does. I, for one, am tired of having my sensibilities attacked by rotten-acting brats who've no respect for anyone, including themselves.

What a weak and hypocritical reaction from the school.

Imagine the outcry and calls for sexual assault charges if the child were a girl being spanked by an uncle. Imagine the calls for sensitivity training and mental health counselors for the grieving students if the child had been a girl and the relative a man.

The school's liberal hypocrisy has been exposed for all to see.
