Does anyone know if there is a Childcare program that offers assistance for single mothers or low income families? And if so how long is the wait usually?

You can't afford to provide care for your child, but you want the people of another state to provide it for you? Unbelievable.

Tonya- if you can afford to move any where else but Jax you should do so. It isn't safe and if you are needing assistance for child care then is it safe to assume you don't have the money you would need to buy or rent a home in a gated and safe community for your children. It is unfortunate but if you don't make enough money to pay for an upscale neighborhood and your own day care than you are moving to the wrong city. Jax is dangerous! I recently tried to move back after being in a small town right outside of Savannah for the last 7 years. It was a bad idea. I thought I would transfer with my job, I got the transfer but once I started looking for a place to live- forget about it! I spend $850.00 for rent in the area that I live in here around Savannah. It is a small town about 30 miles south of Savannah and 40 miles North of Brunswick. I rent a 2 story house in a quiet peaceful community, I don't have to lock my car doors in my drive way, I can sleep with my windows open at my house....I am safe. I have neighbors who are always watching out for me and the other residents on our street and we are a tight nit community. I live across the street from the lake and my 14 year old loves to go fishing there with his best friend of 5 years, we have a huge back yard with a privacy fence, a well manicured front yard, and 4 bedroom 1 bath home...and a carport. I am a country mile away from a gas station, and the school system is good. I was commuting back and forth from Jax to my lil corner in Georgia, and I was looking for a place to live in Jax to avoid this drive every other day. However, when I looked for a place to live I found that the same $850.00/month would only get me next to the nicest crack house in the hood. If I didn't have children and was only interested in the night life, Jax would be ideal. The Landings and the clubs around the city are fun....but not such a great city to raise kids in.....my advise- RUN, run far away from Jax.....good luck.

Tonya Disregard these negitive posts. Why they just dont want the world to know just how great it is here in Jacksonville. Cheap rent, Low crime and sweet people. Why alot of people get our town mixed up with Mayberry. There is plenty of jobs, of course if you dont like to work, Then dont. We have plenty and dont mind sharein. As far as child care thats cheap, Lets see. Mrs Cleaver, Mrs Brady, Aunt Bea. Any of them will keep your children. And places to live that are nice, Hill top, Clevland arms, Or maybe a nice house in our Brentwood sub divison. Its a little upscale, But well worth the extra few dollers.

Go to www.coj.net there is all the info you need about Jacksonville's assistance programs. You must have a job in order to apply and once you have met the reqirements it is a rather quick process.

I think it's someone who grows "extra" knees for a living and sells them on highway exits. I heard that a replacement knee costs abut $1500.

That's funny because whites make up most of the recipients of welfare. Did you know the typical welfare momma is white, single, has one child, in her 20's and without a job? Maybe the poster should check the local dive bars where bobbiegurl hangs out. That may be a good place to start.

how many times do i have to tell you that both blacks and whites make up a pretty much equal percentage on welfare?

I would have to see some real data on that one to believe it. If Governor Crist swore it to be true on a stack of bibles I wouldn't believe most are whites on welfare. Of course if you go into the welfare office there is nothing but blacks working there like the rest of the State, County and City jobs. White do probably one have one child they don't multiply like rabbits.

see post #21 sh*tbag. You have never cited a single source to prove your "equal percentage" theory. I have provided two. One of which clearly states whites make up 61% of those on welfare while blacks make up 33%.
