My dad is currently in the Clayton County jail because he failed to pay child support. I agree that he needs to learn his lesson...but he is also human...and deserves to be treated so. He says he tries to make the best of his situation and he makes sure none of his fellow inmates has a bad day. He keeps them laughing and in good spirits. He also says that most of the officers treat you how you treat them...treat them with respect and they will do the same. I personally won't be voting for Victor Hill come election day.

If you lived in Clayton county, you would understand. I do have a brother in this facility and a cousin. The way I see it is "if you do the crime do the time"

Ok.If your brother was killed like mine was. you would want his murderer beaten everyday! If you treat the officers with the RESPECT they deserve they will do the same.

If you can't do the time don't do the crime.

There are plenty of ways to commit suicide in jail. Use one.

victor hill is no better than the men in orange in the clayton county jail ! i dont care what the crime is but those who have harsh charges i say to you that you should never harm another human no matter what and i hope you rot in prison, im talking about child molesters , killers - abusers ect.those who have just spit on the side walk or just got smart with an officer dont deserve to be treated such a way. i was arrested for bad checks that i never even wrote - it was a roommate of mine and because he was a SNITCH - the police procted him until he had nobody else to have busted AND was allowed to keep some of the dope from the drug bust, this man was a minus and since he recieved mail at my home i could only file an eviction to get him out which takes 6 months well i was so pissed off i filed a restraining order on him and THATS the only way i could get this man out of my house - he would have killed me if i hadnt of. this man is now in prison for drugs - child molestion- armed robberery and only got 10 do 5. so thos of you who invite people into your homes do a background check first.victor hill flat told me that my home was this mans home because i allowed him to use my address and refused to help me get him out so i just played dirty like victor hill - I LIED !!!! he is not doing time for anything i said.so i say to victor hill - HOW DO YOU LIKE ME NOW>

For any of those in Jacksonville, or elsewhere, that don't know anything about Clayton County or the Justice System, I feel hopeless in talking about the conditions in the jail. I am not saying that they should have the amenities of someone staying in a hotel, or others that are trying to do right in life, nor am I saying they should get a free vacation. I am saying that they should be treated like human beings. As we speak, animals get better medical care and treatment than these prisoners do. If you abused or neglected your pet, you would be required to make conditions better for them, and or go to court, pay fines, and depending on how severe the case, go to jail. There should be a consequence for one’s actions.. This is not a state correctional facility, or a maximum-security facility and should not be run like one. Most ‘hard core’ criminals are transferred to a state correctional facility, or a higher security facility than Clayton County. Those facilities are ran by people who know how to deal with prisoners the right way. Those accused of murder are only in Clayton County Jail until the end of the trail. If convicted, they are transferred to a prison elsewhere in Georgia.
As for RESPECT; you have to give RESPECT before getting RESPECT. Victor Hill does not know how to control his prisoners, except to strike fear into them. How is this same person going to be able to live a productive life as a citizen after getting out? There is where you cycle starts, one mistake, no change was made, and when they get out, they go back to their old habits because it is all that they know.

Victor Hill has broken laws since the first day he took office. Victor Hill has tried to integrate the police and sheriff departments. Clayton County has too many un-incorporated areas for the commissioners to allow this, so Victor Hill has made a patrol division for the sheriff department. He has changed the color of the cars from brown, to blue, and includes his name on all the cars (the money used could have been used elsewhere, say to teach kids how to say no to drugs, or teach teens gang awareness); the color of the uniforms from brown/tan to blue (which if the deputy had already used their uniform allowance for the year, had to come from the deputy’s pocket). What is happening to warrants that need to be served… I hear that over 200 warrants are not being served to people that they were issued for; I guess patrols of the community by the sheriff department are more important than picking up a child molester that has been seen near a school and has a warrant for his arrest. Or how about the abusive husband that didn’t show up at court after receiving a ticket for simple assault; two days later the police respond to the same location, the husband is gone, and his wife is dead on the floor,(cause of death, blunt force trauma, or for those that can’t understand, she was beaten to death). The call came in from a neighbor.
Who wants to go to jail? for sitting in their own front yard at night? Or driving some friends home after a football game? Or how about going to jail after a late night study session with classmates?
Because of the tactics used by the Clayton County Sheriff Department, these are very possible situations. Victor Hill can have you locked up for loitering, even if you are on your own property. A deputy plants drugs in your car, after obtaining consent for a search. None of your friends knew about the drugs and deny it is theirs; it is your car/you were driving; by law, you just became the owner of the illegal substance. Have a nice night. Or you are pulled over 2 miles from home, the deputy is being a little rude; you try to be polite, but the deputy’s perception is that you are having an attitude with him. He pushes your buttons a little harder and you get smart, possibly lose your cool. Good night, you are staying in Clayton County Jail tonight. In court the next morning, it is a he said/s/he said. Who is going to win this one?

First of all murderers sit in that jail for almost two years. They dont immediatly go to trail then to prison.Second have you ever been to Clayton county.I have lost three people (two family members)to murder. They were sitting in thier car and someone ran up and shot them to death.MOST of the people in Clayton county jail are there for crimes like this. The GBI is 1500 cases behind and those people sit there for years they dont RESPECT authority or they would not be there in the first place.Clayton county is Dangerous.I commend Victor hill and his men for what they do.There are also hundreds of Meth and crack addicts in there who have no emotions and dont care about anything. And will kill you in a heartbeat beleive that! People that are going to jail for traffic violations and other nonviolent crimes never make it to population anyway. So before you accuse the sherriffs department.Get your facts straight.

whatever happened to guilty until proven innocent? this concept does not exist within these jails.
most of the inmates in clayton cty are not murderers. you can go online and look at the police docket to check the charges of people who have been arrested. the charges vary.
i admit i've been to clay co. i went in for simple battery because my husband and i got into a fight. i won't go into the details but according to GA law i was not guilty of the crime for which i was arrested and detained for. i cannot say what made the officers arrest me when we both had bruises on us and we should have both been arrested but even for the simple charge of battery i should not have been treated as if i was booked for murder. the way the officers talk to you is beyond strict. it is about humiliating someone. they are not judge or jury. they have no right to treat people like that.

while i was detained at clay co there was a sewage leak and the women were forced to live amongst the stench and feces for three days. the leak occured on the bottom floor of the pod and the women who were housed on that floor were forced to clean up the mess without the proper cleaning supplies. they donned rubber slippers while mopping up sewage water. there was no bleach and no gloves provided. i have a small stature. i spent the three days being sick with nausea and a severe headache. the fumes were noxious. there was no measure made to FIX the leak until the third day. we were forced to eat amongst the fumes as well. is this how people deserve to be treated?
also not just speaking in terms of treatment but my problem with the jail is the following:
the most punished by going to jail are the poor. first of all for misdemeanors you are given a fair bail amount however if you are low income or disadvantaged you would not be able to bail out so in jail you sit until you go to court. if you plead guilty or nolo you are basically going to leave jail that day. which it's best to plead guilty or nolo especially when you can't afford a defense just so you can get out and get back to work/life because you will be paying for it somehow.
you are typically served and/or fines, probation and community service. you can be issued all three. the problem with fines if you are low income paying a fine is not an easy thing to do. now i wouldn't have a problem with the fine if you were not also being charged a fine by the probation office to be on probation. while i do understand we have to pay the probation office money there would be funds to pay them, they are an outside contractor (who i recently saw endorsed in a movie), if we were not detaining people until they went to court.
the state pays for the detainment of "criminals" through our taxes. for each person in there the state pays about $200 per day. TRUST ME, THEY ARE REALLY NOT SPENDING THAT MUCH TO HOUSE THESE PEOPLE. THEY GET MONEY TO LOCK PEOPLE UP. HENCE WHY IT IS ADVANTAGEOUS TO LOCK UP AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE. the more you lock up, the more money you make.
just my opinion

i would prefer that my tax dollars be used in the wisest way possible in regards to the jail system because i prefer my dollars to be channel into education. i believe that if these people who are poor are most of the jail population in clay co jail who are in there on misdemeanors they are probably poor. perhaps if they were better educated and had something worth losing they would be less apt to commit a crime and be locked up in jail anyhow? poverty and crime hold hands. they are friends to one another. and for those who are criminal minded, going to jail just teaches you how to commit more crime. if you are in there on a simple one time charge, spending time in there just allows you to get to know bigger criminals than you. and if there are people who are in there for multiple crimes are they really learning a lesson to stay out of there after experiencing it already? obviously what they are doing is not working.they are just taught how to get over more than before. i believe in preventive measures and improving georgia's education system is a preventive measure.
alot of the people who are in there are in on probation violation. if you do not meet the terms of probation you are jailed. so if you got into fight like me or how about for fighting your sister you would be jailed again for breaking the terms of your probation.
how do you break probation? if you are unable to provide the fine money you are violating. if you are not able to make your appointments you are violating. if you are not able to make it to community service you are breaking probation.
anyways, i'm tired of typing. i'd break it down even further but i don't feel like putting forth the effort. i don't really think people are getting heard over the internet so it really doesn't even matter. i just feel like the system is not working so things need to change and victor hill's solution is not the answer.

lol you go sheriff, now thats a excellent way to deal with tugs!!!. it's about time they get some real action and not some two bit laywer getting them off from jail time. if you commit a vilont act then you deserv every bit of treatment ya get. maybe they should start canning here. if your guilty then time to pay the piper!! it makes me sick knowing that while in jail ya butt gets med treatment, 3 meals a day, tv, cable even. and for what?? thats why is cost the taxpayers so much dang money to keep there sorry butts in jail. bring back the dark cells, and the bare mim to sustain life, and put there butts to wrok cleaning up the trash. i have to bust my hump like everyone else to survive and pay bills. i don't get anything free, so why should they. better yet trow all there tails to irag and let them fight for there jail time if they make it back then they paid there debt!! and do away with the workout weights in the prison yards no need for them to get bigger then the gurds just to over power them at times. be real now.
