Why would a principal go on camera to say her school was dangerous and out of control? There goes HER JOB and retirement pension.
I guess then she could go into politics. Spin, spin, spin!

You failed to mention in your 7:00 newscast that neither incident at football games vs. Lee HS involved anyone actually FROM Lee High School!!
Security is ALWAYS an issue at ANY school in this county. As an educator in this county, I feel comfortable that the system of searching students and finding the waepons they choose to carry is a sign that the system is working. The SRO's, security officers, and JSO are working diligently behind the scenes to ensure our safety and we do not always hear about what is going on.
I believe it is up to the media to PROPERLY report these incidents, or NOT report them at all because incorrect news reports only incite more panic, and in truth, more incidents. Some students who hear about other students carrying weapons will choose to start carrying their own to "protect themselves".

The questions the school board and principal need to ask themselves :
Are they satisfied with the standard of education provided ?
Are they satisfied with security standards ?
Are they happy that guns are being brought to school in Jacksonville ?
Are they happy that some teachers felt threatened in the school ?
Do they believe they are offering a first class education that could not be bettered ?

Their comments are so defensive ! Why not reach out and show parents that you really care about the quality of education in your school, about the behavior of your students ?

I am sure that you must, but why not strive to achieve the best

As far as we know they never said where the students were actually from Lee or not. So, unless you have some inside source to the police or the students involved how would you know that the students were not from Lee.

See, someone told us that they were not from Lee. We investigated the incident ourselves and found that nothing stated where the students were from.

So, what is your source? I would like to hear the facts. Don't down the news. If it did not involve Lee students then this WOULD make us happy. We don't like hearing anything bad about the school we support. Our intentions were merely to raise awareness without getting fired.

Let's not make this a RACE issue! On the other hand let's just say schools in the poorer areas, where prodominetly BLACK students attend are at JEOPARDY! NOT only are they FAILING THE GRADE but now they are at risk of going to school to DIE!
Where are the metal detectors! where are the POLICE! NOT ALL of the kids are bad. so REMOVE THE BAD KIDS THAT ARE NOT THERE TO LEARN. TRUANCY OFFERCERS ARE NEEDED,If this state can pay the SUPERINTINDANT HIS SALARY, There is wealth to PROVIDE PROTECTION TO OUR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS THAT ARE IN SCHOOL TO LEARN AND TEACH.

It doesn't take someone with a degree in education to realize the schools in Duval county are out of control. In reality the crime in Duval county is out of control too. Teachers are just that...teachers...they are not security officers in any way. So if you have a school the size of Lee with 2-3 resource officiers there is no way these men/women can handle every situation that arises. Thus the teachers must, for the safety of the children, become security which I will guarantee they have not been trained to do. For this principal to stand up and state her school is safe and secure is complete ignorance. Over the past two days that has been proven wrong. The police can't monitor the schools the whole day...so where does that leave us? You can send your children to school and hope for the best...you can keep them home and wait for the officer to knock on your door...you can home school them...or you can put them in private schools. In the student code of conduct it states all students have a right to be educated free from harm. It's time this school system stands behind those words with whatever means possible.

I am quite secure in my job thank you. I speak from me, not my employers. I HAVE (as a matter of fact) broken up fights in my classroom. I have also watched officers handcuff and arrest students for fighting in my doorway, then turned around and said to my class, "OK class, time to take the test!" The fact that we have not had a major incident in Duval County tells me that the system we have in place is working. I may not like it when we don't hear about every little (or big) incident that happens in school every day, but do you really think the FBI tells us about every time they bust up a drug cartel or arrest a terrorist? If they did, there would be widespread panic. If you don't like it, you have other options. Those of you afraid of the schools can keep your kids home and not take risks. For that matter, don't go drive anywhere in Jacksonville because it's not safe. Stay inside and never come out. Sound ridiculous?

I call a high school student and middle school student found at another HS with a gun and bullets a major incident..dang right scary in fact. Sure they where stopped but what would of or could of happened if they where not caught, might be another kid or kids dead from gunfire cause they came to collect money there.

What happened to the punishment schools like Darnell Cookman and John E. Ford? In the late 80s and early 90s if you could not behave you were shipped of to these schools so your lack of discipline did not disrupt the whole school. If these students are not willing to dedicate themselves to learning then they should not be with the students who will. The ultimate problem is the parents, but unfortunately we can not stop bad parents. Too many children have parents who laugh at getting an education and are drop outs themselves. I have heard people brag about how they dropped out in the 9th grade and will let their children do the same. We have taken education for granted in this country and it is time that if the students will not behave then they are kicked out. Ultimately for a large number of these thugs their parents only send them to school so that they don't have to deal with them. Enough is enough, lets put them in a reform school and if they can not behave then throw em out on the streets because that is where they will end up anyways.

I do think that Mrs. Hall and obviously some other teachers have their heads in the sand. A few weeks ago I arrived at the school to pick up my son and saw an ambulance in front. There had been a fight and a child had to be treated. Maybe Mrs. Hall needs to stop being their friend and be their principal. Truly, the school appears overcrowded. Maybe that is the problem. There has to be a solution but there has to be an admission that there is a problem. Let's not have Lee High splashed over the news as the next Columbine.

This is your idea to help us feel safe sending our children to school that if we dont like the violence keep them home we are all not educated enough to home school our kids in todays world but that doesnt mean we should have to risk their lives to get them an education so they may better our world wow your some TEACHER !ps you do receive a paycheck for the education you are suppose to be providing them!
