Does anyone know of the situation with the Kezar Lake Camping Area? I spent many years of my youth at that campground and now can not find any info on it other then it was sold.

From what I've heard (and I have no way of confirming this), author Stephen King bought the property and shut down the campground.

Yup Stephen King did buy it, and from what I heard last year he is trying to buy the marina too. I was told by a local friend he doesn't want any tourist on his lake

Yeah - Stephen King bought the campground. Rumor was he was going to turn it into a camp for underprivileged kids but his wife was in the local paper saying they just wanted the "riffraff" off the lake. Money talks, and sometimes screams. Broke my heart. Two weeks there kept me going all year.

Yeah all the rumors of Stephen King are correct. I actually went to the camp ground last year, and it will bring tears to you eyes. THe house is being lived in buy a caretaker. The store and rec center completely boarded up. Driving down through the camp was heart wrenching. Picnic table rotted away and falling a part, all the sites over grown. The tent area looks as if it was never there.

I spent 19 years camping there every summer and it is all but a memory now! Thanx King! NOT!!!!

The campground was purchased by Stephen King and is no longer in use. Many long time campers have inquired about this for the past few seasons. It is missed by many.

I'd like to see him shut down the lake. That's one of the top tournament bass lakes in the state, and there are alot of people in the B.A.S.S. Federation Nation that are eve3ry bit as well off as hs is. He'd have a long costly legal battle on his hands. He shoulda stayed in Bangor at his freaky house.

We really miss the campground too! We're still trying to find a place we like - even half as much.
I don't think Mr. King's "riff-raff" assessment is fair or correct. Everyone we knew up there had nothing but great respect for the lake, campground, Tom & his family.
I think Mr. King assumed too much - Kezar Lake Camping Area meant everything to some. I know it was a slice of heaven and peace of mind for us.

I had been camping there every yr from 1990. That place was my sanctuary. I would take friends up the lake to show them SK house from the water but who knows what other people were doing! Maybe something different could be done with the site, maybe a private campground where you lease a spot and pay an association fee!Have rules that everyone has to follow and if not you are evicted! I know I'm just dreaming. My wife and I bought a piece of land near by but I don't think I will ever be able to build so it's for sale. I do feel bad for all the good folks who live far away and are unable to enjoy the lake, It's only 2 hours for me so I can make a long day trip out of it. We have to start a movement to somehow be able to go back there so at least some of us who feel the same way about the lake that SK feels can enjoy it just as he does!

I went to the campground a year ago..Drove right down to the beach. I was met by a couple of thugs that told me to leave. I had an accident on that lake and nearly drowned. I wrote King and he said he was unsure what to do about the place..Maybe a kids camp..Right...He could care less about the kids. He was building a huge house on Fox cove..Why should he care about the people that made him rich...

Spent many vacations there with a large group of people. On the last weekend that it was open we soaked a copy of "Bag of Bones" in kerosene and handed out the pages and then had a book buring on the beach. I hope SK is enjoying his lake. I dont think his is an asset to the town.

Yes its very sad that just because someone has loads of money that they can just move in and take over your towns!Small towns look forwrd to thier camping sites etc.and look forward to all thier times there, its not right no matter who he is to be able to buy things right out from under the towns people.......But then again I suppose its the one who owned the camping site that sold it to him to begin with knowing what he would do with it...

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Scorpio

Your thoughts turn to the past today, putting you in a nostalgic mood. You're awash with sentimental tears as you dwell on days gone by or gaze at photos of people you'll never see again. However, try not to let this mood of reminiscence turn into a tendency to feel sorry for yourself and therefore to demand special treatment from others.
