What a great Welcome to Jackson. We had take out last night and it was wonderful. Everything was fresh and very tasty!

Excellent food and the sushi chefs were really friendly. The only issue is the owners have another restaurant in East Lansing (OMI), and the prices at AKA are more in range with a white collar college town that blue collar Jackson.

What happened to the rest of the reviews? There were quite a few. Very good sushi. I am thrilled that Jackson has a sushi restaurant!

Great sushi. Clean environment. Chefs wear gloves! I would recommend this sushi restaurant to everyone. Maybe they will expand into a larger place in the near future...

I absolutley love this place. I am so happy to finally have a great sushi place in Jackson. The prices are reasonable considering the ingredients.
Keep up the good work and get a bigger place! |

Personally, I love this place - but the better review is my world traveling sushi fiend of a boyfriend saying that it was the best he'd ever had. Seems he visits me in Jackson more often now that Aka is open...

We have gone two or three times a week since they opened. I moved from A2 to the Brooklyn area a year ago and have been just dying for some good sushi. Their miso soup is good, I like their salad in spite of having too much iceberg (there are other types), the spicy California is wonderful, and the tempura rolls are fabulous! Agadashi Tofu is a favorite, and their tempura is nice and light. The waitstaff is friendly and the sushi chefs are good as well as very friendly.
I am sooooo happy Jackson finally has sushi, and it is great that the sushi is good as well (better than most of the A2 places). |

Excellent quality, friendly staff. A little high priced for the Jackson area with the high unemployment. Great selection and superior quality. A must for those who love sushi.

For a sushi place in Jackson, it's great. The prices are a little high, but the food is mostly good. I eat at a lot of places in Ann Arbor and this place is basically comparable.

I have been probably a half dozen times since they opened. I am a college student at Albion and was super excited to see them open. I used to have to go to Ann Arbor to get my sushi fix. Staff is super friendly and atmosphere is nice. Really like what they did in such a small space. Sushi is good and fresh, but there could be more fish and less rice in the rolls. Jackson is not exactly a hub for fresh fish though so I don't really hold it against them. Give it a try!

I've been here numerous times, including opening day. I'm also a Jackson transplant, and have been a sushi fan for a few years. Out of the many places I have gone, Aka is certainly as good or better. The chefs are great guys, and the waitstaff is very warm and inviting.
As others have mentioned, prices are a little steep for the average Jacksonian and rolls are a little heavy on the rice, but these gripes are minor and easily forgotten once we remember that before Aka, the only sushi choices in jackson were grocery store garbage and chinese buffet mystery-rolls. Hopefully in the future they can open a second sushi spot in town, or at least move into a better location. Sharing a small building with Quizno's and Starbucks probably isn't ideal. |

Great tempura (shrimp)!. The kids enjoyed the miso soup and the seaweed salad. One mistake , no mayonaise in the roll was requested and written on the order form (oops). The sushi was fresh and the hot sake washed down the negihama roll with "Ponzu Sauce ".Keep on Rollin.

Good points: this is the freshest sushi I've tasted since moving here from the East Coast. THe waitstaff is very friendly.
Bad points: chef went a little heavy on the wasabi. Be prepared to wait for a table; this place is TINY! Also, the svc was slow; I basically saw my waitress when she gave me my food and gave me my check. Another beverage would've been nice...:-( |
