I was extremely shocked to see the low turnout at their benefit chili dinner. As big as the community is and the large families here, why were some of them not there to support these guys? This is not just something to benefit a few but the whole community. I don't know, I was just shocked. Everyone needs to do all they can in giving support.

I agree! They're new and don't have anything. They could use all the support they can get!

Of course, they're new and have plenty to learn, but I saw them ALL first hand at the last fire school in Hazard and they ALL went through their basic 20. That's enough to know how to suit up and how to approach a fire properly. They'll learn more as time goes by.

Why would anybody want to try to beat them down and them JUST STARTING!? You all are hateful and should be ashamed of yourselves.

don't believe they played that night did they? and if they did, i totally understand why parents and family members would support their children first, thats how it should be. But u cannot tell me thats where the whole community was. And to u "i agree" at least these citizens are out doing something good to help ppl instead of coming on here to bash. People had better stop and watch their tongues, you may need these guys at one time or another.

rousseau needs a fire dept. but it doesnt need to be run by crooks and idiots. honestly you rousseau area your best bet is to get some good fire insurance. and as for the smith family they know a joke when they see it i dont blame them for not going.

its a shame that someone just comes on here and makes a statement referring to the community needing to support a good cause and some have to degrade others. thats all u ppl do here and try and find the bad in everything and everyone.....thats why we are still considered "ignorant hillbillies", we do it to ourselves!

I was planning on going to the chili supper but I read in the paper that they were just going to certain areas and not covering the whole Rousseau community. My understanding from the newspaper was that they were only going to sevice where city water is. Is this true!!!!!

lets view facts.....the ritchie girl is not the treasurer so how could she possibly walk away with a pocket full of money? I would think that being she lost her own home due to a fire that she may have a desire to help others going thru that same experience. Someone who is very much respected is the treasurer, doubt she would hand money over to anyone as u have to be implying since you seem to know so much...lol the wilson boy is young but has worked hard to get this dept going and from what i have seen does really well in all the trainings...but let me guess, u feel that maybe he doesn't meet ur standards? are u certified to make that judgement on him? well of course u are..LMAO I mean, ur words imply ur of such great intelligence to judge and damn others. people like u are juding the whole group by the fact u have problems with a few...once again, lets just damn them all. can u people just once try to work together for something good instead of always condemning others for beginning the process. its like if u certain people are not the ones to begin a project than it must just be a scam or a "joke". and as far as the "dug" boy...as i understand they had asked several other members of the community to lease land and no one was interested...just so happened they had land they do not used and decided to lease it...and furthermore, he has a garage already, why would he be worried about another one??

well whatever if you was so smart u would know what paragraphs are. and as for me all i can say is i feel for my patients who live who live in the rousseau community.

I my self am lucky I live on lakeside and the jackson fire dept has a good record. But if what my patients say is true, then its not really the rousseau fire department it should be called steveson or noctor firedepartment.

I grew up on Rt 30 and have since moved away but am very proud of where I come from and to read these negative comments made about the people who are VOLUNTEERING and willing to risk their lives to help the community amaze me. My father has already risk his life for his country and out of the goodness of his heart is one of the volunteers on the fire department. I am so very proud of the ones who are taking on this task and I will pray for your success and safety. Also, to Earldidntdie...I also feel sorry for your patients, if you can't so much as spell "dying" correctly, I can only imagine the written instructions you provide to them...I will pray for them as well.

I also lived on Hwy 30 East and have since married and moved away but am so very proud of my home community and my family that is still there.
I am so disappointed in the negative comments that have been made on this website regarding the volunteer fire department. I noticed that one person said they didn't support the department because it would only serve those homes with city water. Perhaps if the community supported them and they could raise enough money to purchase a tanker truck, then maybe they could serve all the homes in the community, however without the support of the community this will never be possible.
It is my understanding that at this point all the homes in this community are at the highest fire rating with regards to their homeowners insurance policies, however once the fire department is in place those rates should drop drastically, I would think that if the community would not support the fire department out of pride in the community they would at the very least support the department for their own benefit.
My father is also a volunteer and he is NOT a crook or an idiot or some of the other less than desirable words that have been used on the previous posts, he is very honorable and trust- worthy and I know without a doubt that if any of the negative things that have been mentioned were actually taking place he would in no way be involved with the department.
I will continue to pray for the volunteers and the community, that they may be safe and come together to support one another in times of trial and also in triumph. God Bless.

Rousseau has a volunteer fire dept????? HUMMM...I know i have seen t-shirts, decals on vehicles and even the little boy packing big expensive radios on his side, and yes I saw a little piece of land on top of a huge hill side grated off but no building nor no firetruck??? Also I have seen quite a few different people standing at the lights at walmart bumming for money but where is all that money going? How can you call this a fire dept with no fire truck??? Who is the head MAN of this operation? LOL...I guess the Smiths are like everyone else in this community, they only support "honest" events..Just my opinion..
