Ted's is the ideal market and it would be tough for anyone to compete with a store that has great customer service, excellent quality and pricing comparable to the big box markets.

Whenever a business closes it is sad but sometimes new businesses do not foresee the challenges they face when they have stiff competition.

Just opening the doors to any small business is very expensive and for a small market to stay in business they have to be top of the line in customer service and be able to offer services that keep customers coming back time after time. Mike's Market didn't strike me as that kind of market. They had gas. But there are other gas stations in town. So what did they have that was special...that made them stand out? Nothing, in my book. I never shopped there.

The end of Teddy Miller has nothing to do with Mike's Market closing. Mike's Market is closing because they want to or they need to because of lack of business.

There will be other businesses in town that will flourish and there are businesses in town that have already increased their sales since Ted Miller was voted out.

I eat at Jennifer's and was suprised to see a friend in there that I had not seen in forever. But now that Ted Miller is out they will be frequenting local establishments again instead of driving to Derby and Newport.

I despise Ted's market. They not have the selection that Mike's does. Nor do they have the space or arrangement that makes it a pleasant shopping experience to wander the isles. In Ted's you are constantly bumping into people or searching for things because the arrangement of items was done for space, not for continuity....just my opinion.

If Mike's is really going I'm very sad. Not only to see another business leave (that may just leave a vacant lot forever) but also because it frees Bob Dexter to charge even more for gas with one less competitor in town.

The Clyde River Outfitters is also for sale. Maybe the only business that can profit in this town is a bar. With a recession and even more compounding political problems it is very doubtful that tourism can "Save" Island Pond. So sad.

The town did vote for the new cruiser and a police dept. at a special meeting before the selectmens regular meeting in March.Bucky is constable not police officer. look it up there is a difference.and no (we)meaning Island Pond no-longer have our own Ambulance service but we do have coverage thru Lyndonville which we also voted on because Derbyline took everything we had and threw us under the AMBULANCE.So thank Lyndonville for pulling us out.

I think Ted's is the perfect size Market. It is a cozy shopping experience. I like the way he greets his customers and I like the personalized service. He knows his customer's names and he knows how I like my meet cut. He pays attention.

How many brands do you need for kripe's sake? Ted's has good quality products and enough of a selection to please me.

Don't misunderstand, sometimes it is nice to ride to Derby and check out the selection at Price Chopper, but for intimate personalized service, I prefer Ted's Market. I also like to support local businesses.

allwell and good supporting your town if you can afford to spend 2$49cents for a can of soup instead of 10 for 10 any where else..i too try to support my town but when is the whole in our pockets good enough for the greed in theirs?
