I was just in Mikes Market and he is closing the doors tomorrow (Going Out Of Business) another one bites the dust people. Island Pond will soon be a ghost town the way places are closing.

3 Whenever a business closes it is sad but sometimes new businesses do not foresee the challenges they face when they have stiff competition. Just opening the doors to any small business is very expensive and for a small market to stay in business they have to be top of the line in customer service and be able to offer services that keep customers coming back time after time. Mike's Market didn't strike me as that kind of market. They had gas. But there are other gas stations in town. So what did they have that was special...that made them stand out? Nothing, in my book. I never shopped there. The end of Teddy Miller has nothing to do with Mike's Market closing. Mike's Market is closing because they want to or they need to because of lack of business. There will be other businesses in town that will flourish and there are businesses in town that have already increased their sales since Ted Miller was voted out. I eat at Jennifer's and was suprised to see a friend in there that I had not seen in forever. But now that Ted Miller is out they will be frequenting local establishments again instead of driving to Derby and Newport. Mabe |

2 If Mike's is really going I'm very sad. Not only to see another business leave (that may just leave a vacant lot forever) but also because it frees Bob Dexter to charge even more for gas with one less competitor in town. The Clyde River Outfitters is also for sale. Maybe the only business that can profit in this town is a bar. With a recession and even more compounding political problems it is very doubtful that tourism can "Save" Island Pond. So sad. |

No more EMT service? Do you live in town? Why don't you take a drive past the station.
