I grew up in Metuchen. My mother will tell you up and down that she is Catholic, period - but, like many of eastern European roots, she still practices lots of "folk magic". She casts lots of little "spells", for divination, or to protect against the "evil eye". Much of it is left from when Christians first began to convert the pagans - pagans decorated eggs as symbols of fertility long before the Christians came.

Eggs are an amazing thing throughout most of Eastern Europe, and central Asia. The way one holds an egg can be used to define a person.
