M'burg Fire/EMS/police

What is going on with the 'burgs fire/EMS dept? 3 people on administrative leave, for no apparent reason. full time people brings kids to work as if a babysitting service? billing for non-transports with a levy on. Part time police?

Apparently, you have no clue what you are talking about. Contact one of the VOLUNTEERS at the department and they will clue you in to what you "think" you know. No apparent reason.....work in their shoes and endure what some have been through in the last several years and then let us know if you could handle it all. Police....find a department that don't have part time police. Considering they are making little over minimum wage...we are lucky we have them.

Really No Clue...huh. Did talk to one of the volunteers,(by the way they went to a full time dept about a year ago) She has been put on administrative leave for refusing to falsify documents as ordered by the chief. Any just so you know I am a paramedic, Firefighter and Dispatcher in a much bigger city than your pathetic little dirty burg. And what do the so called volunteers do to improve the EMS there? any when does $9.00/hour constitute volunteer? Your dept has lost 3 very highly qualified, motivated, and respected people, because the fire chief, who does not hold an EMS card, thinks he push stuff under the rug, like everything else in the burg. And if you are on the dept, then you might want to explain to the public, why it's ok, to run an ambulance into guardrail, and try to cover it up? have firefighters getting lost on the way to runs, and taking ALS runs and not having ALS qualified people on the truck. STOP giving real VOLUNTEERS a bad name.

OK, idiot. The EMS side of the house is paid, however the Fire side is VOLUNTEER. Have you ever responded to a "two vehicle accident" in over an inch of ice, downhill at 6:30 a.m. just to find out that it is someone pulled off the road because they can't make it up the hill that you are driving down? No, then don't make stupid comments. When idiot dispatchers do not do there job and send us out, stuff like that happens. Get your facts straight. Sidney is bigger, but a lot dirtier and nastier than Mechanicsburg. Noone tried to cover anything up. You must be getting your "facts" from one of the poorly qualified idiot friends who can't handle being told what to do. Grow up

Wow, VOLUNTEER, first of all, stop the name calling, makes you sound like an idiot. 2nd thing, yes I have responded to a 2 vehicle accident on ice in the middle of the morning. Get over it. I am a 21 year Firefighter, Paramedic, former dispatcher. I have worked as a volunteer, a full time and a part-time paid. I will never say I have seen it all, because, then something worse come along.

And as far as poorly qualified friends, who can't handle being told what to do. NO ONE can force someone to falsify documents, get YOUR facts straight. The name calling must run in your family. Have you ever heard of "Moral turpitude"

Moral turpitude is a legal concept in the United States that refers to "conduct that is considered contrary to community standards of justice, honesty or good morals." Something I don't think you have there. But maybe forthcoming. Sounds like your new village admin. has it on the ball.

So if nothing was covered up, why was papers shredded, the state pharmacy board called in, and the chief and assistant EMS Chief suspended last night? Come now volunteer, you must have an answer for this!

I agree with you on some aspects of your comments, however, do you know the exact circumstances that led to the firing of the "EMS Assistant Chief"? Ask the mayor, he seems to be Johnny Law Dog in that town. If the average citizen in Mechanicsburg new what they were doing voting for him, I'm sure they wouldn't have. Also, the Village Administrator should be glad to have that position, after all she has no qualifications to hold that position. On the same note, the recently fired Asst. Chief had NO right being in that position either. I'm not sticking up for these people, just stating facts that you may or may not know. Ask the Police "Sgt" about the shredded papers, who shredded them, and where that person is today. He has not been employed by the village for quite some time now. Why are you so bent on slamming Mechanicsburg? If anyone falsified papers on the medic crash, wouldn't there have been some sort of investigation? After all, one of Champaign County's fine Deputy's was there. Request his accident report if he did one, is that not public record?

I keep trying to ask the Mayor, on the M'burg website, but my post won't ever be posted!!! Weird, I keep confirming and it keeps rejecting, I think I'll just give Greg a call, ask him whats going on.
I think you are missing my point, not talking about the crash, I'm talking about when the state phamacy board came in and 3 people were put on administrative leave and Ms. Zeigler and Company shredded all the documents, its all in the report, available under the sunshine laws. Are those 3 people still on administrative leave, seemd as if they were cleared by State Pharmacy Board?
Look around at the village admins in other villages, are they qualified anywhere? Look at North Lerwisburgs Admin, or how about St. Paris, or even go south to catapaw or north to West liberty. What are the qualifications to be admin?, there are however state guidelines for Fire Chief and EMS Chief. Hopefully they will be followed in the future.
Mechanicsburg FIRE/EMS isn't very much different then anyother Part-time paid dept. just airing dirty laundry in the local newspaper is all.

It's pathetic how they do it over there. Who are the three? I know when all was going on that a Dan Bowman was a part of the mess, he's gone. Also, Ziegler is gone now as well. Who is the other? Kimble is the root of most all wrong doing in Mechanicsburg. He is the biggest two faced person I've ever met, not to mention very unprofessional. Maybe the state needs to crack down on small town policies and politics.

What mess was Dan Bowman apart of? Maybe you should get your crap straight before you open your mouth about something you know nothing about!! Go ask someone who knows the truth about that.

I think all of u are wrong i think if u all would do some research u find everything is public record. U all should find out the reall story before u make false statements, About stuff that no one really knows about. I know for a fact that every one on here has no clue b/c none of u are involved in that dept. or that villiage. If u was apart of that dept. u would know not to talk about things u know nothing about, and u would be telling the truth not hear say.

Maybe you should do your homework, and if you did you see some of us are on the dept. And are tired of the BS that has been going on there.

Since you are an adult, which I am assuming you are, why are you still a part of the department (or anything else) that you don't support? There are other departments you could go to. Of course there are going to be decisions made that you don't agree with but if you feel as strongly as it looks like you do, why are you still invoved? If you aren't involved then I guess you don't have much ground to stand on, do you.

Because my family here and I want to make sure they are take care of, And I assume your an adult and very pro active in the department and having professional attributes. I'm not talk about go in and do just your chores, I'm talking about keep up your skills and doing continuing education,looking for ways to improvement our dept.(not just watching TV all the time). How about the Ethical responsibilities as health care provider?

This is my first time commenting on anything on this wabsite but i feel there is somthing that needs said. I am an outsider looking in, i was once apart of that dept. a long time ago. i left there to go to a more larger dept. Now i really dont know whats going on up there only what i have seen on the news and read on here, But to me it sounds like there is a big mess in that little town. I still keep in touch with some of the guys up there and what i am hearing is there are only few prople that are good enough to come in and fix the EMS problems. The fire side would be fixed if Chief Shonkwiler would be left alone by council. My opinion is that when they lost a few guys the dept(EMS) went down the drain. I am not going to slam anyone on i am going to metion a few names that should be back in charge though. Tim Shonkwiler was a great Medic he was strict but things was done right, Jeremy Massie was a great teacher and taught me alot of what i know and use today, Dan Bowman was the man that would fix anything and worked his ass off to make shure the trucks was outfitted with what they need Brian Hupp was also a great Medic and teacher. If these 4 men would be willing to come back on the EMS side of it and people left them alone and let them do there job there would be no more problems. And as far as Ethical responsibilities is concerned this guys are the ones that can teach anybody what it really means. Thank you and good luck to the FIRE & EMS

All small departments have issues. Burg is no different. I can recall Bowmans haggish girlfriend sleeping through 3 sets of tones and one my friends waking her up. It just sucks how a few people can give a department a bad name.
