Seems like the days of true exploration are gone. Kinda sad. You're a cool guy, Meriwether Lewis. And an inspiration.

I would like to learn more about how he died. He came to such a mysterious end.

Lewis family (collateral descendants and others) have been putting pressure on the National Parks Service to exhume Lewis to get just these answers; cause of death; his physical condition and health status at death, etc. The NPS (Parks Service) has been blocking such efforts for years; (WHY? Well, for one thing, certain key US historical figures stand to come out looking a bit less saintly.) Yet there is a growing faction demanding answers.
James Starrs and Kira Gale have written a fascinating and informative book which makes a strong case for murder, not suicide. My feeling? Assassination, due to various convoluted political agendas in which Lewis got embroiled or perhaps was about to "bust."
Also, there is an infancy-state reincarnation project being done and a book in the works. For those open to reincarnation, consider this: It's entirely possible that the reincarnations of both Lewis and Clark are currently walking the planet, hoping to do a better job this time. That's all I'll say for now, except, thanks for your vote of confidence. Lewis appreciates the kind thoughts, I'm sure. He was quite misunderstood, and certainly no saint.(He is heartbroken about the fallout on the Native Nations. For all anyone knows, maybe L&C are Indian Activists and environmentalists now.. would make sense, right?)
