I want my fries animal style!!! Hopefully the city counsel pulls its head out of its rear and repeals this ridiculous ban. In-N-Out on Ocean and Water gets my vote. Weekend beach traffic and central to UC and Cabrillo.

Maybe Santa Cruz would approve it if they changed the name to "Shooting Gallery Burger", or "Bullets in-N-Out", or better yet, "Homeless Burger"

What's wrong with this area!?!?! No drive thru's!??!? WHAT???? WHY???? Good food at good prices is what we want but can't get. This is just another ploy to try to force us to choke down locally produced over priced crap food! Yeah, like I'm really going to cough up $7 bucks at Johnnie's by the crows nest because that's all there is. Another chance to bring in tax dollars to help cover the mess we are in. And no people, if I don't like it, I'm not moving, born and raised and staying in Santa Cruz, 46 years and counting, I never run away from a fight. Game over local leaders, your agenda ends soon!

bummer. Love animal style. Would be great to see one nearby, but I guess it ain't gonna happen. A tip to the wise: check out the new burger. joint - corner of Bay and Mission (where Marcello's used to be). Burger. is awesome. Organic grass fed beef, absolutely delicious; all kinds of fries, Marianne's ice cream shakes, & soon to have 50 beers on tap. No need to drive across town to Betty's.

In this economy, it's so pleasant to see good money go elsewhere. Of course, we don't need an I/O burger, we want an I/O burger. What exactly is our future in this county? Tourism, green technologies, bedroom community? It seems other cities are doing a much better job of enticing people here. Northern Santa Cruz County: where you can't buy a pair of underwear, a decent steak or find a hotel room. Please bring cash, because we are too cheap to take a credit card.

Hey Capitola your making a BIG BIG mistake. You need to re-think your stand on drive-thrus. This could be a win win all the way around. So pull your heads out of the sand and get it done...

Are drive thrus really that bad from an air pollution basis that this ban is required? I seem to recall reading that an automobile produces much more emissions during the start up of the engine than does from idling the engine for five minutes. Anyone have any info on this?

Independent research from Drexel University shows non-drive throughs produce MORE polluton than drive throughs! Greg Beato, writing in The Smart Set, an independent online magazine produced in partnership with Drexel University, concurs, pointing out that “outlets without drive-thrus produced about 40 to 70 percent more smog pollutants and carbon monoxide and 10 to 30 percent more greenhouse gases than the ones that had them. The reason? Idling that occurs in the parking lot as drivers hunt and wait for spaces, the extra distance traveled during this process, and the extra engine start-up that’s required after customers complete their transactions and return to their vehicles.”

Hey, In-N-Out: Watsonville has a big open space directly off the Riverside exit just begging for a fast food drive-through, and no other competition on Highway 1 between Santa Cruz and the Monterey Peninsula. Come on down!
