I WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS MY HEARTFELT GRATITUDE TO THE IRVINE POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR THEIR AUTOMATIC
PHONE CALLS TO ALL RESIDENTS AND POSSIBLY BUSINESSES ABOUT PENDING DANGER IN OUR AREA. MY PHONE WAS CONSTANTLY SENT UPDATES.THANK YOU IRVINE POLICE DEPARTMENT.YOU WERE MORE INFORMATIVE THAN THE INTERNET AND TELEVISION NEWS. I WAS ALSO GIVEN EVACUATION INFORMATION BY THE STAFF AT NORTHWOOD PLACE APARTMENTS BUT I NEVER FELT THREATENED AND REMAINED INDOORS. KNOWING THAT THE ADDRESS OF THE INCIDENT WAS VERY CLOSE TO MY APARTMENT AND THAT IRVINE POLICE HAD IT UNDER CONTROL, I DIDN'T WORRY AT ALL.THANK YOU SO MUCH NORTHWOOD PLACE MANAGEMENT TEAM. |

“N/A” Since: Nov 09
IRVINE CALIFORNIA ISP: Irvine, CA |
THIS IS ONE OF THE MANY WAYS I GOT MY INFORMATION.FIRST I HEARD THE HELICOPTER.IT WAS VERY CLOSE TO MY APARTMENT AND KEPT CIRCLING.IT BROUGHT BACK ERIE MEMORIES OF THE MURDER A FEW MONTHS AGO BEHIND ALBERTSON'S GROCERY. NEXT I GOT THE IRVINE POLICE DETAILED PHONE MESSAGE, NEXT I CHECKED THE INTERNET NEWS AND T.V. NEWS, THEN I CALLED THE NORTHWOOD PLACE APARTMENT MAIN OFFICE KNOWING THAT THE INCIDENT WAS VERY CLOSE TO MY APARTMENT. THERE WAS NO NEED FOR ME TO LEAVE MY APARTMENT BECAUSE I HAVE FULL CONFIDENCE IN THE IRVINE P.D. WHO CARES HOW MANYARS OF POLICE OR SWAT WAS USED OR WHAT MEANS OF TRANSPORT WAS USED.THEY WERE PREPARED FOR ANYTHING. THE PERSON SERVING THE EVICTION NOTICE MUST HAVE HAD SOME TYPE OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE TENANT.IT'S SO OBVIOUS TO ME. IT'S TOO BAD THIS MAN WASN'T ENCORAGED TO SEEK HELP BY SOMEONE WHO KNEW HIM. WANT AS LONG AS THEY ARE PROTECTING MY COMMUNITY. |

40 squad cars, a command center (Mobile Police Station), Helicopter, and SWAT team, for a depressed man who committed suicide. I don't know but that sounds like overkill.
Good Job by IPD and surrounding cities who came in to help but I think it is a little embarrassing to have Tustin, Lake Forest, and other cities police forces come to help IPD when they could have handled the situation. It is typical of IPD to overkill. I can only imagine the police blotter when they stop a car for a broken tail light, it goes something like this. IPD: OMG there is a Honda with a broken tail light lets call it in. IPD To Command Center: Command this is officer Perfect I'm on Culver heading toward UCI I'm in pursuit of a Honda Accord with a broken tail light I need back up ... bring the whole squad! Command to All IPD: Calling all squad cars, officer Perfect in pursuit of a Honda Accord with broken tail light ... block off the intersection at Culver and University, lock down UCI and surrounding schools, come in hot, approach with caution. Then you see 10 squad cars pulling over a grandmother in her late 60's to give her a fix it ticket. LOL well I guess thats why Irvine is rated one of the safest cities to live in. GO IPD ..... hahahahah lol |

Seriously, for one man barricaded in his apartment, you needed to have 40 officers, helicopters, swat, 7 schools locked down, command posts!!! how redicilous! there is really bad crimes out there, and there isnt enough police for that..this is one person! Irvine cops are bored, thats the bottom line..no wonder why there sitting at the end of the park passing out helmet tickets to the highschool kids..because they can meet their quota faster there, then watching for people speeding on the same street where these kids ride their bikes, and almost hit the kids! lets see whats better? I dont agree with this at all!! its rediculous. and I had to stay away from my home for 6 hours, for 40 cops to figure out this guy has been dead since 2 oclock!

oh I forgot, they need 3 cops to pullover the HS student on a bike to give him a ticket for a helmet, un-buckled while just sitting on his bike talking to friends in the park..NOT RIDING THE BIKE, SITTING!!!

Tear gas for a dead man...hmmm...

I would like to clarify for everyone what REALLY happened....... A young man was living at 469 hayes st and got evicted for not being able to pay his rent..the police came to get him and he said he would kill himself before he left his home. He was going to be homeless and was going thru a VERY TRAGIC event and did not know where to turn. you would think the cops would have a doctor or someone come and talk him down b/c he obv. had issues and needed someone to talk to but NO IRVINE COPS WHO ARE UNTRAINED did NOTHIN of that sort. They shot tear gas in his apartment instead waited 10 min went to go in and the guy blew his brains out.... if the cops went about it in a correct way this mans life would not have been taken. We all need to stick together and let the police know they need more trainin on how to deal with suicide victims. the saddest part of it all is after the man was dead i asked if i could go back in my apartment and the cop said yes the man is dead and LAUGHED.....not funny and something needs to be done
my prayers are with his family |

Let's get something straight. The guys life wasn't 'taken'. He killed himself. No need to mourn, he took the easy way out because he wasn't trained for life. |

Irvine cops are dangerous! Do NOT trust them or in any way shape or form antagonize them. They are bored, angry and have the law on their side. They can do anything they please and will try to drum up a reaction in you to end this boredom. My personal experience:
I had expired tags. My fault, I admit. They were excessively expired (11 months). Yes, it's my fault, I realise this. I get pulled over by some angry cop that was hugged enough as a child. So she approaches my car starts in with the questions. I had a baseball bat in my backseat. I had moved recently and just never bothered to take it upstairs to the new place. This sets off her supercop Irvine radar. She sits me on the curb and SEARCHES my car, trunk and everything. Then she starts in with the questions. I didn't have a recent insurance card (i had insurance but the card itself was out of date). She could have called progressive and they could have verified in about a minute I had insurance. Nope. I had AAA but couldn't find the card in my wallet. So she starts berating me for that. I sign the ticket differently than my license. She freaks. She says they can lock me up while they verify my identity. Then she starts in about how if I don't pay the ticket it will go to warrant. She impounds my car. After this she asks if I have the money to get it out. I say yes. She asks "are you sure?". I say yes again (this is the part with the antagonizing). So I wait for the cab they called for me and walk away saying nothing. Turns out the cab driver was from Turkey and was a cop for 25 years and HE AGREED she was being excessive. A cop from TURKEY. So anyway I find out what the ticket cost. 50 bucks. All that for 50 dollars. What a fucking joke. I have never heard anything good about them, have personal accounts of people being stopped by them for NO reason and stories of Irvine cops antagonizing people into saying something. Just answer their questions calmly, don't panic, piss them off to no end and leave. They can do NOTHING to you. |
