AV Schools

Can anyone tell me good or bad about AV schools, teachers, are drugs an issue, drinking etc? I have children in the school and am curious if I made the right choice.

you're worried about drugs and you moved to the meth capital of the state? well, in school drugs aren't a big issue...its after school in town that you have to worry about. we've got some really good teachers though, but watch out for mrs. axtell . if your kid comes home with an F and says mrs. axtell won't help them, its true.

A.V. school has its problems, but all school does! but A.V. If you dont have the right last name, you are nothing!!! You are TRASH. There is drugs in this school, both of my daughters went to A.V. and they are out of that school. Thank God! Trust me I know!

I have to agree about the last name thing. Since we are not from here it seems my child is treated as an outsider and poorly. I am concerned about the drugs, young girls and boys being sexually active and parents not seeming to care what their children are doing. You have to have the right last name, attend the right church and kiss the right feet!

My daughters were homeschool, is the best way out. They learn more, you are one on one, Remember! when in school, there was home EC, My girls know how to cook and sew. by me! I hate this school system. And the sex that goes on, where are the parents today! They are worrying about keeping up when the Jones!!!

I went to school there and in the tenth grade on of the "preps" got pregnant and dropped out. I believe Ashley Dickerson was her name and she was pregnant by some boy with the last name Whited. His mom was a blonde headed school bus driver. & that's where most of the drugs were coming in at...the "preps". As a younger child there I loved the school and the teachers, but they may not still be there.

How sad.....life is hard these days, even harder then when I was young but it's sad we have to worry now about teachers being predators, drugs in schools, sex at MUCH younger ages, girls fighting, bisexuality etc. Just sad and I STRONGLY believe it's going to get worse bc we have ALLOWED God to be removed from our schools!

You know school is suppose to be fun and learning.But it seems like A.V is a prison. They need to have more sports than they do now. They need to have home Ec, so the girls can learn to cook and sew and learn what the birds and the bees are.And the boys too, if they want too.

That is not true last names at AV do not matter I dont know why you would think that but you are wrong and no you are not trash...I bet you just think that you have a "good name" hello we live in AV it does not matter!! The drug thing is not a big issue. and if you feel that it would be an issue its really easy to try to communicate with your kids and talk to them about how bad drugs really are

AV does have classes like that...Pattie walker in the HS teaches them

Could any parents out there tell me what the attendance policy is at AV? My kids go to south iron and the attendance policy is really strict. i was curious if all the schools have tightened up on this?

does anyone know what kind of teacher Mrs Lester is? She is a fifth grade math teacher and from what I am hearing she is horrible. pushing kids embarresing them in class. threating them. what kind of teachers are they letting have teach here? A good teacher would try to help a student that is haveing problems in her class. Not her she blurts out that they don't pay attention. something should be done but it seems that when you have a problem with a teacher at AV School It just makes it that much harder for your child?

I don't know where you get your info, but yes it does matter what your last name is! If you don't belong to a "well off" family or a "well known" family then your kids get treated different.Its like your kids don't matter and the well off kids get treated better. I know because I went to school and graduated from down here.and the whole thing with the fall festival down here is true to. the parents should stay out of it and let the kids build them if it looks like crap then it looks like crap, at least they can say THEY built it themselves.

I think that if you do not like the school system you can pack up ur crap and leave it is just that simple, i went to school K-12 and I loved it, but if you dont then that is your problem, so you can fix it by changing schools. And i agree with the fall festivle thing the parents are trying to take it over i did not enjoy float building all four years because so many of the parents tried to take over our ideas.

I've had the same experience with Mrs. Lester. She totally demeans the kids and teaches them nothing. She doesn't even use the math book!! She called one fifth-grade boy "Precious" all year long. This is totally inappropriate and should be reason for immediate DISMISSAL but we are talking about AV. Their school is a joke.

you must be one of the people who has a name for it's self. or you wouldn't be so upset. I went to A.V all my life, and the teacher's treat you like dirt if you don't have the right name or money in your pocket!!! You are nothing!!!

I agree with the Mrs. Lester discussion. I have had two kids that have had her for a fifth grade math teacher. She is a JOKE!The math notebook is ridiculous. She had her answer wrong on one question. When confronted by it, she denied it. Then she finally admitted it was wrong, but still would not give the kids their points or explain the correct way to do the problem. There is no math book to be brought home so the parents can help the kids with these problems. There is only one set of books for the entire fifth grade. Yet the school is paying for monthly rewards parties! What a Crock! We should spend that money on books so that each child can have a book to bring home to work on this so called homework! I tried to battle the school, school board and superintendent on her along with several parents but that was a waste of time. If you don't have the right last name, you get NO WHERE! The only thing I managed to do was make it ten times worse for my kids in that school! Nepotism is #1 PRIORITY in that school!!!

You must have been one of the children with the "RIGHT LAST NAME". I went there all my life from K-12 and now my kids. The nepotism is only getting worse not better, especially with all of these younger teacher. Look at the entire school staff, 90% of them are related to Byron Inman. He is one the school board. Now if you are related to him, you are guaranteed to get a job there. Do you homework and you will see that I am correct! Now do you have to have to right last name? You bet you do!

[Attaboy, I am of course an A.V. Teacher, and I was wondering why you act like you know people in Arcadia Valley School, when you're clearly ignorant. I am a close friend of Ashley Dickerson and the " Blonde Bus Driver," and they are both great people. The Blonde Bus Driver has never touched as much as a drink in her life, and Ashley Dickerson, now Whited has never done any drugs!!!! If you want more information about their life here it is! I'm really sorry it's not the kind of story you were probably hoping for. The blonde bus driver attends church every Sunday, loves her family, and has been nothing but a loving friend, wife, mother, and grandmother. She always supports her family. Ashley did get pregnant at a young age, but it's not like she's prancing around town telling everyone else to do it. She and her husband had a surprise baby when she was in highschool. Soon after he was born they found out he had a medical condition which required a strict diet, and Ashley and her husband have devoted their life to caring for their son. The condition was genetic, and has no relation to drugs!!!!She would never encourage young teens to have babies, but also loves her son more than life its-self. She got her G.E.D. went to college to earn her degree in Special Education. Her husband works his butt off up in St. Louis driving back and forth everyday as a Boss for Concrete Strategies a multi-million dollar company. They are still married, and now have two beautiful children. The Blonde Bus driver is very much involved in all of her grandchildren's lives, and is married to a wonderful man. The family all loves each other and sticks together, and feels sorry for you. It's very sad that people have nothing to do but try to say hateful untrue things about other people. Judging other people ,and making up lies won't make your miserable life any better. They will be praying for you, and so will I!!!!!]
