The Cedar River poured over its banks here Thursday, forcing the evacuation of nearly 4,000 homes, causing a railroad bridge to collapse and leaving cars underwater on downtown streets.

Sounds like the flood that could never happen that did.
Look like Katrina after the storm. The whole state is
total loss.

An enterprising farmer in Iowa would have a boat rental sideline business.

Just google Derek Battershell and you will learn more. Certainly not an attorney. Better yet find him on zabasearch and send him your junk mail.

We will come back from this, stronger and better that we were before. It will take all of us working together to pull this off, but we can make it work.

The evacuations continue - without any of the chaos seen in New Orleans. People can act like human beings in times of great tragedy.

No it certainly DOES NOT look like New Orleans after Katrina. No one looting stores or setting fires or robbing their neighbors. This is the way Civilized people are supposed to act after a tragedy strikes.

Having lived along a river, I can empathize with and admire the people in how they have responded to this not-unusual circumstance of flooding. Even so, their behavior, their helping neighbors, and their eventual commitment to returning when the water recedes are a great reminder of the basic core of mid-American dedication to boot-strap values. It is a nice contrast to what we saw in Katrina and presents a picture of American toughness for the world at large...not that they will pay any attention to the positive side of life in this country.

This is exactly the point I was going to make. Where's the looters? Where's Kanye West and the telethon? What happened in N.Orleans was a tragedy but not an excuse for anarchy.

I just wish we had our troops home so they could help with this humanitarian effort....instead of being on the other side of the world (Afghanistan, Iraq, and elsewhere) fighting losing battles were the only gain is war profiteering.

BRING OUR TROOPS HOME NOW !!

Yes, you will. Cedar Rapids is a wonderful community. My best to you and the entire city.

It is refreshing to see a community get up and help one another instead of whining and blaming the government for its problems.

I am personally making a donation today for relief efforts.

Good luck to all of you.
