It was so amazing to see the out poor in the community for this tragic loss. Mike's death is a reminder to us all to keep our kids safe and lines of communication open. The power of God was so strong in this burdened city. The teens are our future and we need to help this generation.

Why are we a "burdened city". Just because it hasnt happened in your neighborhood-yet.He was burdened personally, not the city he lived in.

the ionia school superintendents arent going to do crap for students, the schools dont care for the students like they say they do and yadi yadi yah its a bunch of crap. Does it really take a kid to die for the schools to do something or what. Ionia high school especially is pathetic and so is some of the staff such as the principals they are unfair, judgemental and they favor many students and need to learn how to do their job correctly instead of just thinking about their next pay check and abusing their power and just being lame.

Agreed!!! If you have money and a name you're in. Otherwise they set you aside and forget about you which is so wrong. I went to school in Ionia...

I hope that they close the school on Thursday allowing all students who wish to attend the funeral services to do so.

We had a tragic accident here in Muskegon where some teenagers died and the school bussed the kids that wanted to go to the funeral. I think more schools should be like that and it really helped the students that were coping to know how involved the school was and if they needed to talk to someone, the school would accomidate them.

Why is it the school's responsiblity or the super intendents to prevent things like this from happening? Hello, this kid had PARENTS! They are the ones that should have seen the signs of his usage. They LIVED with him, the super intendent didnt. And what about his skateboard buddies. They all knew what he was doing....."Friends dont let friends skate after huffing" should be the newest slogan.

It's hard to feel sorry for someone whos life was taken because of drugs/huffing/suicide. These kids know the risks but think it'll never happen to them. Tell Michael that now, he's gone, but do you think it'll have any impact on what the rest of these kids,(the ones that will continue to do these things) do? I seriously doubt it. We'll be reading more and more about kids who do stupid things because they want a cheap high

do NOT use mike's passing as a means for you to express your disappoval of the school district or their faculty!! the fact that a young man who had so much promise and so much life ahead of him should be what we are discussing. i know this family personally and i know mike as well. this is a tragedy in the truest sense of the word!! any disapproval you might feel towards the school district or it's faculty is quite irrelevant at this point!!

Rest in Peace Mike. May the Lord watch over and guide the young lives of his friends that are struggling to find direction through all of this. His family are amazing people and I know the Lord will continue to shine his loving light on them, and see them through this terrible time.

the name mike means:

"Who is like God?"

one definition of the word meek, mike's last name is:

"Mild of temper; not easily provoked or orritated; patient under injuries; not vain, or haughty, or resentful; forbearing; submissive."

knowing this young man, both seem so fitting!!
Amazing

Joel - thank you for sharing this video. He looked like a nice kid. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and everyone who knew him. I cannot imagine losing my 17 year old son like this family has. Rest in peace Mike.

Throughout the rest of the month you'll enjoy the security and comfort that you gain from being in familiar places surrounded by familiar faces. You won't be happy about straying too far from home, and you'll rush back there as soon as possible.
