Crime in poinciana has got so bad on the Polk side, with 2 gangs roaming the streets, police helicopters with seach lights on atleast 2 times a week now and more recently the sound of 5 rounds being fired near my home which includes my two small children under the age of 4. 2 years ago things weren't this bad, what happened? are others out ther expierencing the same things around their poinciana home?

Yes, we are experiencing the same. I have been living out in Poiniciana now for three years and the crime in Poinciana has gotten really bad. I have notice that all the gangs here in Poinciana claim to be from up north. You have a lot of members that states that they rannned their gangs up in New York so they come here to start up another. Now you find that the oldest gang member is only 16 years. Now thats funny if you ask me. I would say that there is just not enough to do in Poinciana thats why these kids form gangs. Have of them parents don't even own their homes and are on section 8, so they don't care what happens to the neighborhood. I have heard about friends houses being broken into by other friends, but the kids are too afraid of being jumped after school, so they don't tell.

You have to wonder about why this is being swept under the rug. Seems that, the powers that be, might be concerned about having a negative impact on their sales.

Hello!!!! People don't you realize the crime has gone up and you DON'T see any of it on the news!! One must wonder who the hell AVATAR is paying off to keep people quiet!! These gangs are really, and No to the up north comment, these kids are from EVERYWHERE!! yes they have nothing to do in poinciana, however i know more than half of these kids being in poinciana for over 10 years now, i watched them grow and can't understand why they are so lost. Yes some the parents don't care, but most of them have parents whom have lost complete control! i myself have grabbed some of these kids and took them to their mothers or fathers and have seen the parents try to get a grip on that child and later that night they calling me because they can't find them! poinciana doesn't set up nothing for these kids and will not help when a resident develops a sports program to try to help get some of these kids involved and save the ones that aren't lost yet and JOE ELLEN from poinciana recreation tells you basically your on your own with trying to find places to host the events at. We have the citizen patrol! they are no where to be found especially at night! the schools and police have over 300 kids labeled GANG MEMBER but yet we don't see them have interventions or meetings with these parents. POINCIANA once a very great place to raise kids and now you can't even go to the park with them any more. GET IT TOGETHER!!!

Yes, that side of town needs some serious help. I heard that there was a stabbing again at Vance Harmon Park a couple nights ago and it somehow was related to a guy getting run over a little while later in the Wal-Mart parking lot. I heard that there was actually a 2 second blurb on the news about that one, but I missed it.

I moved to poinciana with my husband and kids about a year and half ago, my kids are teenagers 17, 14 and I am very worry. Since I heard about the gang members I did not dare to put my kids in public schools here in Poinciana. They are in private school in downtown Kissimmee, which I feel that I should not have to spent the money in private schools knowing that our school system can be a great one if something gets done. Something has to be done here and all of us should get together and make noise someone has to help us.

Most of these so called gangs are nothing more than bored kids that wanna be gang members. We had a large group on our street that burned the woods down, graffitied everything ,and were breaking into cars at night.I got all the residents together one day and we approched the kids and explained to them (in a polite ,but determined way) that if they continued to do these things ,that we would have the cops there at every opportunity ,and that we were watching(allways). Some of them continued to do the drugs and create mischief, but most behaved (almost 80 %)The few that caused trouble ,well.......we complained to thier landlords ,and Avatar ,and the police,(which ,by the way, did a wondrful job of arresting the ones doing harm)We got some renters to leave ,got the offending retards arrested, and I talked with the remaining few(with thier parents present) who thought they could bully us.Thier parents didn't know what the kids were doing until we told them ,showed them pictures and names.I'm a marine,Iraq scared me, these scrawny kids don't.They found themselves cleaning and painting over the ugliness of the graffiti, and were let known ,we (the neighbors ,will not tolerate this crap ...NO MORE !!!.It's been a very quiet summer ..so far.

Don't worry .Things are changing.Polk County has agreed to set up a permanemt station at the Avatar community center. There are five undercover police sherrifs working the area and three marked units ,and shortly....the crime will be delt with .They are currently gathering evidence on certain people and groups and have allready made eight arrests involving house break-ins by an organised group. They patrol the worst streets every night and day and have a staff of 15.They will be hiring in 10 more this year when the new budget gets released in August.

I have delt with a simular problem in NYC with the latin kings. The cops needed an act or evidence of their actions. We spoke with some of their parents....I hate to say they were the cause. Brain dead! One night we observed a group targeting a young lady. We were so feed-up. I picked the oldest of the group and invited him to the park. Well he soon quiet down and the group disbursted. see people a concern community must act together this is the only way to win this war.....if you choose to hide behind the certians a nd point with no futher action ,...thats what they seek. the weak...if we unite and stalk them,...they know the games a foot and their will be no hostages.....its time to step up and point the finger.....this community must unite now. ONLY WE CAN PUT AN END TO THIS! WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH COPS!

I agree! It takes a community to come together and save these children. Shoot if their parents can't find the time to raise their children then we as a community MUST step up! The police can only do so much in our area. The 2 or 3 we have on Polk side CAN'T possibly watch everything! I AM WILLING TO TAKE BACK MY NEIGHBORHOOD ANY ONE ELSE??/

I heard about that one too but was told it was a drug deal gone bad. Considering how hyper too many adults are about the evil "drugs" I figured it was not likely true. Do you know anymore about what happened?

A family member of mine went to a funeral yesterday of a 26 year old male who was killed near koa I believe. The story is that he was shot 4 times. I have searched everywhere on the internet and haven't seen anything on the news. Does anyone know what is going on? This is too close for comfort. Most of you have been in Poinciana for less then 10 years I am proud to say I have been a resident in poinciana for almost 20 years. Poinciana is not the same at all true but everywhere in the country has changed. We are a developed community now and have more people then we have roads and the poor kids really have nothing better to do then roam the streets. There are many hard working parents who work 2 or more jobs in our community that don't have an idea of what their kids are up too. There are some kids who are thrown innocently into this gang life but there are kids who are very aware of the severity of the situation and don't care. My opinion: Osceola School Department needs to spend more of their budgets on recruiting teachers with experience have more after school activities and events. Update the events to things these kids are actually interested in. Spend more time and effort into finding proper chaporones. Many of these kids are very talented in singing, dancing, drawing, writting, not only sports. It would be nice to get to know your neighbors apparently that doesn't really happen anymore no matter if your white, black, hispanic, mix, in between. We have a very diverse community but not all are united. It would be nice to have our community better. Our property value is lowering by the day, our grass is looking less green, and raising a family in this community is not looking as great as it use to. I am to old to do much more then listen to my grandchildren and give them the best device I can. But please if anyone hears about crimes around this are please post because apparantly the news and newspapers don't want us or anyone to know. We have a right to know what goes on in our community.
