Are Southerners Stupid or do they just sound that way

First off, I'm a young man from very, very, very South Alabama.I see a lot of harsh generalizations being made here. YES, rednecks and white trash are real. But you get folks like that all over America. I think most people are just put off by how different we are. Our speech, our customs, and events that took place over one hundred years ago influence way too many people. People assume we just sit on the front porch and throw empty beer cans everywhere. In my house, we watch college football, worship the Lord, and I go to school and get an education. Southerners aren't any less civilized or intelligent than anyone else. To say we are all stupid barbarians is very prejudiced. Besides, our food is better, the women are prettier, the weather is nicer, the sports teams are more talented, and people are friendlier. But, like I said, you will always have a few that make the population look bad, and those are the folks that non- Southerners always see. And until people can quit pre- determining what ALL Southerners are like I don't think people's views will change.

I have lived in several parts of the country and as you have always said that there are good and bad people no matter where yo live. So, I agree with you on that.

What I disagree with is the manner in which you call for people to not prejudge and one group or section of the nation based upon the actions of a portion of the population while you then go on to say that the "food is better, the women are prettier, the weather is nicer, the sports teams are more talented, and people are friendlier". Seems a bit hypocritical to me.

Food is horrible in the north.

Food and the entire restaurant experience is terrible in the South.

Ok I will fair about this, there is a small possibilty I ate at the wrong places and the wrong food when I was up north. So suggest some places I should eat at and what I should order? If I am ever in the north again.

The food in the North is good in general. The service is usually pretty lousy but that is not why you're there. In NY, any hot dog stand us pretty good, any pizza corner shop is pretty good. There are plenty of high-end places to eat, but I doubt if that is what you are looking for. Manhattan, downtown Brooklyn, Philly, Boston, and Providence have nice places to enjoy a meal. NJ food is pretty bad, the service is also lousy. Unless you directly off the NY or Philly borders. They are a culture all to their own.

Timmy_, to answer your question, I like Little Joe's in Wheatley Heights, NY. It is about 15 minutes off the Queens border. I also like Tony's Pizza on New Lots off Buffalo Ave in Brooklyn.

Ever been to John's on Bleeker St in Greenwich Village? Thin crust and made in a wood fired oven.

For more traditional crust, I prefer Fleetwood Pizza on Broad street in Mt. Vernon.
