Why are you focusing on Vero? Been there before? The areas with more activities are more crowed/congested so Vero is OK if you are all retired (high paying jobs are scarce for nonprofessionals) and don't require diverse recreational needs locally, and have a bundle to drop on (overpriced) real estate. A condo that I couldn't give away in 2000 for $65,000 now sells for 125,000. Quarter acre Lots in Sebastian (7 miles North) that were sitting around for years @ 10 grand are now priced at 70,000. Florida is an ideal paradise for 3 or 4 months (winter) and is a hot, bug infested swamp otherwise.

Vero is getting bad.
House insurance is sky high. Ours went from 1500.00 a year(claim free) to 7500.00 There are many homes in foreclosure. We are moving from here in 3 years. |

What do you mean by getting bad? Just the insurance going up? Or crime wise. |

Vero is still a very nice quiet resort town with extremely nice weather. Vero gets 10 or so less inches of rain than the congested cities to the south including Stuart. I live in Vero and each day has been a blessing. The peak season is a bit busy but it is not too bad and a lot of money is brought into town to help the local businesses. My only dream is to see Vero become more of a year round town. If you stay through the summer you will find what a great time the summer is with all the sunshine and warm water. There are more and more restaurants yet the town has a small town feel.

Moved here in December 2006 from Broward County. Have been in Florida since 1977 from Maine. Love it..
Vero is laid back, enough to do but not too much, great weather.Lots of good restraunts, movies, golf galore....most transplants are from New England, NY/NJ or PA. If you want city Orlando is about 100 miles, West Palm Beach about the same. Houses, compared to CC, are not expensive at all, even compared to South Florida. If you like the beach we find them excellent, clean, not crowded..... and of course there are those who hate it.....what can I say....come on down |

My family and I moved to Vero from NJ about two years ago. We love it. Great place to raise our 6 year son. Good luck....

I had lived in Vero Beach for 36 years, moving there when I was 12 yrs old. I can tell you that while Vero is a very pretty town, it has gotten way too expensive for the average person to live there. With the Hurricanes that hit, property taxes and home insurance has tripled. Forget about buying a house, unless your wealthy. Vero is running out alot of the average working person. Jobs are scarce unless you want to work in retail,in a restaurant, cutting grass or cleaning houses. Most of the "things to do" are geared to the affluent community. Teenagers have nothing to do. I have recently moved to Tennessee where the housing is less expensive, the people are friendly, and the weather is beautiful. Unless you have a desire to live in high humidity, high taxes and insurance, constantly watching the Weather Channel from June-Nov to see where the storms are going, and being looked down on from the "upper-class" then by all means move there. |

1 How is free parking at free public beaches "geared to the affluent community"????? Face it you're just jealous of others with more $$$$ and want to move to a place where everyone's in the same double-wides and F150's. |

Hello,
My husband and I are very interested in moving to Vero Beach. We currently live in Canada.(way too much snow!)We have 5 children and from what I have read thi is an excellent community to raise children. I have researchd alot on the net but nothing compares to the opinions of those who live(d)there. I have looked at some of he gated communities-what is your opinio on these? I like the commnity feel and safety and they look nice in pictres but what are they really like? And Ithere any you would reccommend and any to avoid? If I were to move in a non-gated community, is there an area you would recommend near good schools, and recretion for the kids? Again is there any place to avoid? I am planning to vsit in April 2008. Can anyone recommend a good motel? Do you have public transportation in Vero? Any info wou be great! Thank-you in advance! |

I live in vero beach in a gated community on the beach. Vero offers safe/ "fancy" communities for families who can put out at least $100,000. If you are looking for a home in the $100,000-$300,000 you can find a brand new 3-4 bedroom that is close to the mall and all the restraunts. Most middle class gated communities in vero have beautiful entrances and look like somwhere you would find million dollar homes. Now If your able to spend $500,000 and up, you can enjoy the laid back beach luxury living. there are many communities off A1A that are a dream to live in, and those "rich" people are the nicest Ive ever met, but there mostly all OLD!

I am looking for a second home in the US. It would be mostly used by my retired (63) parents and their friends. I know a Dutch couple in Vero Beach and they love it there (there 6 months of the year). The Gulf coast (Naples) looks more tropical. Any other suggestions to look at when I am over? Charming, seaside towns with small, local shops and restaurants is what I am looking for. What about the bugs, all year round or just june/july/august? thanks for your time...
|

I've been to both Vero and Naples numerous times--Naples is of course a good bit further south but to me doesn't look more tropical than Vero. Keep in mind the Atlantic side of Florida has the Gulf Stream to moderate winters more so than the Gulf side, and if you go directly across the state from Vero to Tampa Bay area it does look less tropical than Vero. Bugs are bay far most numerous in the summer but yes they can be found year round here. Stuart and St. Lucie have lovely areas as well, as does Brevard County. Sarasota and Pt.Charlotte are fine also. |

Thanks Jim....what about Delray Beach....it looks nice!

I'm not clear are there more Bugs on the Atlantic side by Vero Beach or more bugs in the Tampa area on the Gulf side?
