Massachusetts No Sales Tax for Alcohol Initiative, Question 1

The measure would ask voters whether or not to repeal a sales tax for alcohol sales.

This proposed law would remove the Massachusetts sales tax on alcoholic beverages and alcohol, where the sale of such beverages and alcohol or their importation into the state is already subject to a separate excise tax under state law. The proposed law would take effect on January 1, 2011.

A "YES" vote would remove the state sales tax on alcoholic beverages and alcohol where their sale or importation into the state is subject to an excise tax under state law.

A "NO" vote would make no change in the state sales tax on alcoholic beverages and alcohol.

I will vote yes liquor is already taxed this is a tax on a tax. They raised the income tax, the sales tax, added an alcohol tax and wanted to tax candy and soda. By not repealing this tax you are telling them to keep raising taxes and adding new ones.

i will definitely be voting yes to remove this stupid sales tax alcohol.this has got to stop with all these stupid taxes where the govt keeps on figuring out new ways to keep taking our hard earned money.im sick of it

It used to be that if you worked all year all the money you made up until May 13th went to paying one taxed or another..Does anyone know when you break even today with all the new taxes we pay?

Under our Great Leader Obama, we now work until November 13 to pay all taxes. But, we are grateful to our Leader.

Does it matter how we vote? We asked for State Income Tax to be rolled back to 5% after it increased to 5.25% and that NEVER happened. Will of the people is thrown into the dumpster behind the state house while our reps continue to look to nickel and dime us at every turn. Soon they'll put a toll turnstyle at the front door of the 'Hooker Entrance' on Beacon Hill.

I'm inclined to vote 'NO' only because of the huge debt we are already in. If we can afford to cut ANYTHING, let it be on prescription meds, or property tax, or something similar. Or, Let's cut back the sales tax - back to 5% or even a little lower. I think there are ways to cut back that could help a larger majority than liquer.

Not only is it taxed twice, it's forcing us to go to NH to buy our liqueur. NH must love it when we pass these laws. It's great for their economy. Between the booze and MA not allowing Hunting on Sunday's. NH must be loving us. To NH it is! Ridiculous....

Remember how Deval promised that Property tasex would be lowered if he were elected? How did that work out?

Send a message to Beacon Hill that we will not stand for unreasonable taxes and lies. Any other vote on these items sends the message that we're ok with taxes and fees being levied against us.

I will vote to lower the tax and here is why. They damn fools refuse to cut pork and waste so why should we subsidize. By volunteering to pay extra taxes we are saying that we condone waste.

Pay as little as you have to folks...they will waste most of it anyway

The only way you change anything is to move. Every state is in competition with every other state and when people leave and the tax base is less that's the only message dirtbag lawmakers/politicians understand. There's a reason why college grads are going elsewhere. There's a reason why Taxachusetts is losing seats in Congress. There's a reason why states like Arizona and Texas are gaining multiple seats in Congress and their unemployment stats are much lower than in Mass.
You don't receive any bargains whatsoever living here....NONE. Let the illegals, drug addicts, gay and lesbians, and those who will not work live here. Soon I'll be one of many seeing Mass through my rear view mirror.

Alcohol is a luxury, so it should not be exempt from sales tax.

A luxury is something like a yacht, a month long trip to Europe, a million dollar Winnebago. An item that costs less than $10 shouldn't be categorized as a luxury.

if anything it should be categorized for what it is - a drink....like soda, milk, orange juice etc.

Duh-do you know what the difference between'luxury' and 'neccessity' is? A NECCESSITY is something you can't live without....Last time I checked, no-one died from a lack of "paperclips and lottery tickets", because they are NOT neccessities and neither is alcohol. Unless you're an alcoholic.
