My husband is stationed there and he has wrote me and told me that young man was shot by a drill sgt.. He told me that the drill sgt. pointed the gun at him and fired. He was shot in the stomach after the bullet went through his bullet proof vest and died shortly after. This is something that every family memeber who has a solider there worries about but by all means no one would ever think of their solider would be harmed or die during Basic TRAINING. And my heart and prayers go out to the YOUNG soliders family.

This according to the hearsay that I received is inaccurately texted. No drill Sgt shot a weapon at a private. I can not go into detail however it was a terrible accident.

FORT SILL -- Officials at Fort Sill have identified a soldier killed in a basic training incident as Pvt. Daniel Patrick Fisher, 19, of Bassett, Va.
Fisher, a member of Alpha Battery, 1st Battalion, 40th Field Artillery, died Thursday after being accidentally shot by a machine gun during a training exercise, according to a release from Fort Sill's Public Affairs Office.
The release says Fisher was training on the loading and unloading of an M-2 machine gun when the weapon discharged, striking him about 3 p.m. Thursday. He was taken to the Troop Medical Clinic then transported to Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton where he was pronounced dead.
The Army is investigating the incident to determine how it occurred and how to prevent a similar accident from happening again, said Maj. Gen. Peter M. Vangjel, commanding general of the U.S. Army Fires Center of Excellence at Fort Sill.
Col. Annie Baker, commander of the 434th Field Artillery Brigade which conducts basic training, has ordered a safety stand-down in which all training is stopped to focus on training standards and procedures.

Why would you even talk about this before the army had a chance to let everyone, including the family know? And the fact that your husband whent blabbin his mouth about something that he had no idea what the hell he was talking about shows what kind of dirt bag he is. He is not a public affairs officer and has no right to speak of this especially not knowing the details, jackass! It was incredibly unfortunate but things happen, they are called accidents and they happen all the time. This soldier deserves respect and will get it as long as I am a NCO in the US ARMY. Stop chatterin about things you dont know,Dumbass

How quickly gossip gets picked up, while the "real" truth lays in the gutter. I am very sorry for the loss of life of one of my soldiers, while in training or in combat. Yes, they are still my soldiers.....Please, honor them, for they are sacrificing their lives for us!Thank you......

Pvt Fisher was not shot by a drill sergeant. The drill sergeants were completely responsible for what happen because i was there and i saw it happen and if the drill sergeants would not have had the 3 guns pointing at the bleachers where everybody was sitting this accident would not have happen. The worst part about it all is that the drill sergeants and the cadre it seemed was trying to cover it up and trying to find a Pvt to blaim by acting like someone tryed to hide the round.I believe why it really happen and who is and was responsible for it will never really be figured out,but the drill sergeants and cadre and the command should be FIRED!!!I pray that Brittany would look to Jesus to comfort her and help her to go on and to heal from this, you can not do it without Him Brittany,He will and is there for you.

i was in BCT when this happened in the same battalion delta battery 1/40th...and NO the DRILL SERGEANT DIDNT SHOOT HIM....while the weapon was pointin at the bleachers it accidently discharged a live round instead of a dummy round....the soldier was first taken to the clinic and looked preatty dead to me...so he was preatty much dead on arrival...so the blame should go to the soldier responsible in inspecting all the rounds in the excersise..but my prayers go out to his family...Mr. Fisher rest in peace...HOAH!!!

My husband was shot and killed in Fort Sill 5/12/01 by Bryan Britman on base (they were drinking and playing video games)- and this Bryan brought out his guns and somehow my husband ended up dead. Now, my point is ... how many accidental shootings are there in fort Sill and lawton?

I was also in Pvt. Fishers battery and witnessed the accident. It was a horrible accident and something i still think about all the time! I still don't know how this could have happened and even more amazed at how the round mysteriously disappeared?!!!! To the Fisher family, my thoughts and prayers are still with you!

Ms.Taylor my deepest condolences goes out to you and your family. I suffered a loss by almost the identical way, my husbands friend wanted to show him he could "curve" a bullet. This was done while they were on base. In this case it was ruled "accidental" and my heart dropped from my body right there on the spot. Did Bryan ever get brought up on charges for his crime?

My husband is in the 1/40 echo and he is in his basic training for this to happen is a very big problem. accidents happened but are all theses accidents actually accidents. how many american soliders have to die while at basic traing. As a wife going throught this situation i completly disagree with accidents happen. we send our sons, husband, uncles, and so on and so fourth to do their traing thinking that they will be safe. If we cant feel safe with them in basic training than how can any family willing send their family members tot he army. when the army is their to protect. we agree for our family memebers to join the army to die for others but does anyone think that their loved one will die while doing thier training. No. My heart and prayers goes out to his family. Thank You for serving your country

I was in the cycle after the cycle when this happened. The Drill sargeants told us what had happened. To lay blame on anyone is a disgrace to the soldier who was killed. It was an accident and that alone. They throughly inspected the rounds during our cycle and whenever dealing with any kind of rounds we had to check every round in our clip. Its a horrible thing to hear a brother dying. but it happens. and it did happen. putting blame on anyone isn't going to bring him back.
