He doesn't own as much of the Reporter that everyon seems to think he does...check the required ownership legal publication that the post office requires of second class mail users in the first issue of the Reporter printed each year in October...Ex took him for half, and Sis owns some also as well as others... Just sayin'

Just sayin' I'm speaking out of turn here...I have a couple of things wrong... No alimony...Ex is remarried... I should be the last person on earth to comment on someone's drinking...twenty years ago I was a "drunken sailor". I admit it and will appologize for that remark, Hub. Forgive me...that was uncalled for. <ever wish you had never pushed that Post Comment button, or Send on an email account?> I'm sure everyone has been there at least once...

ID, gotta give you credit. You've obviously got morals. And a lot of pissed off passion (which is not a bad thing). Course I have to say, I like Hub, and I think a lot of people misunderstand him. Hope you can respect that.

Indy_Dick, you are always jabbing at Hub. What did he do to cross you? Must have been something in the past. I don't blame Hub for drinking. Print media is a dying medium. Pretty soon the Friday paper will be lost. The salad days of owning a paper are long gone. The future is bleak for Hub.....

I guess it's a paper that I pay $112 a year for that: A. doesn't cover local news adequately. B. constantly makes spelling and typographical errors. C. doesn't publish on Monday. D. refuses to come into the 21st century with updates in technology such as a even a bare minimum website.

As much as I detested Ms. High, she ran a tight ship with a well editted paper. She made her reporters get the story right or do it over again. Stories were to the point and covered all the issues; answered all the readers questions. I miss that. Armbruster isn't cutting it. The Reporter looks like high school journalism output even on its best day. Not only are there misspellings, but often time there are questions that the reader wants answered, but the content doesn't cover. I'm not referring to the AP wire content. I want local news, period...that's where the Reporter could excel, but for one reason or another doesn't.

I attempted to reach the sports editor to ask him about the all Tri-Valley league softball team and it is impossible to get a hold of him. I left my phone number, but he didn't return my call. I think you're right about it being a dying medium. They just don't care about what their readers want.

In all seriousness and without exaggeration, I've seen high school and college newspapers that are written better, edited better and certainly laid out better than the Reporter. The publisher didn't have to let it get to such a bad point. For whatever reason, however, he chose to do so.

Re Mr. Armbruster: The Peter Principle -- Observation that in an hierarchy people tend to rise to "their level of incompetence." Thus, as people are promoted, they become progressively less effective, because good performance in one job does not guarantee similar performance in another. Named after the Canadian researcher Dr. Laurence J. Peter (1910-90) who popularized this observation in his 1969 book, "The Peter Principle." Oh you're so right about that. A friend of mind who worked (past tense) for Watco said the ones who were promoted to ATM's (assistant train masters), were the ones who came to work high, threatened to commit suicide and in fact, one did do just that. Go figure.

The Reporter used to have two people doing sports, but has had only one for well over a year.(I don't know how he hasn't collapsed yet.) In fairness to him, possibly he hasn't been able to get back to you yet.
