A thirteen year old should not have this kind of a burden on her shoulders. She should not have to grow us so fast. I have a totally full day on Saturday and I am a widow with very LITTLE money but, you can BET, I will be taking time out from my schedule to get to Ella's with a donation. COME ON Jefferson County. Get with the program and lets show these people that we are not like the neighborhood that they left. Lets show them that WE care.

This is not something that you would hear of, from the typical teenager. But then again she is not a typical teenager, she has pretty much assisted her parents her whole life, because that it what she was expected to do. It has got to be a burden on her, but one that she will probably never admit to being a burden on her. My family has been having a really rough financial time lately and my teenager just keeps wanting more money and more money and the story goes on. Please let this wonderful girl be a role model for other teens, she is definately one that deserves a less stressful life. Even though my family is not able to donate due to both of us loosing our jobs, please know that you will be with us, in our hearts and in our prayers. And I wish you the best in your journey, God knows you deserve it.

If we are unable to make it to the yard sale tomorrow would there be a place at Fox2 that would take donations: money and school supplies?

Just want to say this story is very good, but with all the awful things that happen, I would remove their address and let people donate know they can donate other ways; Thanks for airing a great story and helping the family, she is one awesome girl -- Keep bringing it, that's what makes you FOX2!

Ella I know that your parents are very proud of you. What you are doing for your family is amazing, I wish you all the luck in the world,And remember no matter what you and your family are going through God will bring you out he will not put more on you then you can bear, I am sure that God has brought you and your family through many storms so just keep holding on to his unchanging hand and don't throw in the towels there is a blessing with your name on it.

I've known this family for years and they have a history of trying to cheat the system. Her parents are hearing impaired but that is their only disability. Still they do not work, live off welfare and subsidized housing. They have taught their daughter to do the same. They moved from South City because people and neighbors had caught on to their scams.

This story is uplifting if it is true. I am sure this little girl does have more on her shoulders than the average teenager. Although it is sad to say that there are many people in this world that use there diability as a crutch. See what they can get for nothing or make people feel sorry for them. i have a daughter who is 13 NEVER complains and is classified legally blind, cerebal palsy, and hearing loss in both ears. There is nothing I tell her she can't do nor do we use her dis-abilities as an EXCUSE. She can't walk well enough to keep up with her peers, hear to hear them talking and it is a challenge to read lips due to vision loss. My point here is it is a wonderful attempt by a child to want to help her parents, I just hope it isn't her parents putting her out there with the feel sorry for me card. You will get nowhere in life expecting people to feel sorry for you and that is what I try to teach my daughter (which she has never once thought of saying). I can't is not a word in our home, you try to the best of your ability regardless of what that may be and if you need some help ok. I am not directing this at this family or any one family it is just a subject that hits close to home and I hate it when people think because they have a disability everything is handed to them. Remember I am a parent of a struggling teenager there is nothing harder than watching your own child struggle so no I can't say I have walked in the anyone shoes, but I can tell you my heart aches everyday for my daughter but we take every obstacle and tackle it head on. I wish Ella the best of luck with her sale and I just hope that the donations she receives from the community are used for what the family needs. it is sad that in today's society we have to be as skeptic as we are of a disadvantaged family but the reality of it is there are many people that live great lives from scamming people due to their disability. Again I am not directing this at anyone just speaking out on the last comment in regards to the no believer comment. Again Good Luck Ella.....

WOULD LIKE TO DONATE

My heart was pierced so much by Ella's story. I had a rough childhood, and I know what it's like for your day to be filled with worry, fear, and yet love and concern for those around you. My hope is to send a donation to the address listed above. Because above all, Ella should know that the world is not always a scary place to be feared: that there are also caring people in that world who want to help!!!

We went to this sale and had no intentions of buying anything. After seeing this segment we knew we were going to help this family. I hope a lot of people did the same. I hugged Ella and didn't want to let her go. She has a gift and if we could have given them more money we truly would have. I hope there is a follow up to this story and that someone could offer the father a job. He used to work at a 7 Eleven but is now unemployed. He can run a cash register and stock shelves. I am sure he would be a good worker.

This is an awesome story!! My son went to school with Ella when they lived in south St. Louis. It was preschool..but still. She always went out of her way even as a little girl to help her parents. What a sweetheart!

This family scams everyone they come into contact with. Look into the history of the Longworth family. A news channel should have done a little digging before running this.
