If you look on the front page of STLToday.com you will see this story and a related story. The dog in question was half german shepard accoding to the story of the dog killed. There is also a story of an 8 yr old boy that was attacked by the families german shepard. None of you were there. None of you know whether this man really felt threatened or not. The shot entering from the rear with a frontal exit wound could be the result of a quick turn the dog made.
I feel that if this guy is guilty of shooting the dog without provocation than he should get what he deserves under the law. I am for maximum penalties for all law breakers. However, the comdemnation that this man has received without all of the facts being heard in the press and on this board as well as others is deplorable. You may be misjudging his actions without the facts, just as he may have misjudged the dogs actions.

Here is the article if you want to read about it. I wish Matthew Deem would have gotten a better sentence than what he did. It scares me that he is on the street and so close to me. I don't want to let my dogs out of the house unless they are in eye sight of me. I walk by his house when I take walks. In order for me to feel safe I guess I'll find a different route to take. Here's the article:

Think about the kids, too. If he treats animals that way just because they get on his nerves, think about what he would do to a child that gets on his nerves. That is what scares me!

i think every one should know, mathew deem was charged with 3 misdemeaner counts and was arrested. he is free now on 1500 dollar bond. i am just sorry that this is considered a misdemeaner when an animal loses its life thru ignorence of a sick person.

You got that right. Taking an animal's life in such a violent manner should be a felony. He also should have gotten more than $1500 bond.

Mr. Deem may or may not get what the law allows but that does not mean he will get what he deserves.

Thought this was interesting and wanted to share. Matt Deem is still being sewed for what he did. He has two court cases coming up and the victim is sewing him for $25,000. I wasn't thrilled when I heard Matt got off with a misdemeanor so hopefully he gets whats coming during this case. Gosh I hope so!

What's sad is that the family will probably on get what they paid for the puppy. The court doesn't value a pet's life in the same way they do a human life. They treat pets as if they were a possession and that is truly sad.

All I have to say is that all of you have nothing better to do but sit here and comment of each others comments. Get a LIFE. By the way I know for a fact that the shooter of the dog has 2 dogs of his own and he has grew up with dogs his whole life. If you don't know the true or whole story than mine you own business. This is why stories get turned around is because of losers like you that don't know the truth.

Why don't you tell us the truth then instead of criticizing? What is the other side of the story?

Friend,

You are correct in that I do not know the shooters entire back story of how many dogs he had growing up, or how many dogs he and his girlfried currently have. All I know is that he is, as you put it, is "THE SHOOTER OF THE DOG."

What more do I need to know at this point that would make the fact that he shot a small puppy sound any better? If there is something, please let me know.

Friend you are right on the dot, he does have to wonderful friendly dogs that love everyone. I don't think its really anyones business anyways. I know that he is a great person and a animal lover. Why do you need to know the story it really isn't a big deal. If you don't know him personally then its not your problem.

By your logic, a good father to his children cannot be a paedophile with someone elses, come on now you two...... discharging a firearm in an open area without being in imminent danger as well as shooting a six month old puppy are stupid actions.....So, it isn't a big deal, huh? Sorry, this guy might be your friend and a great guy, however, what he did was extremely stupid and cruel, and now he will have to pay the price for that. I do not care if he donates $1,000,000 to his church every year, you do the crime, you do the time.

You seem no different than those Michael Vick apologists who defended his actions by saying that he was a great football player and did charity work, and oh, by the way, they were just dogs......who cares?

I don't care how many great good dogs this man has. The fact is that he shot and killed a 6 month old puppy. How would he feel if someone shot one of his friendly dogs? I don't think he would like it.
He not only broke the law by killing this puppy but also broke the law when he discharged his gun in that area.
The fact is if he was truly afraid of this puppy which I doubt he could have walked in his house and called the police and animal control.
