Tom Smith, hunting guide

I have been told that Tom Smith from Forsyth, MT is missing. Tom is a hunting guide and lives in Forsyth. Is anyone out there that knows anything about this? Word is that he has been missing for several days, search & rescue have found nothing. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I have searched the newspapers from Billings, and surrounding areas and there is nothing on this.

I'm in Forsyth & have known Tom for years. I don't get out much any more, so I haven't seen Tom for quite some time.
There isn't a lot of news.They had search dogs follow his tracks to an abandoned trailer.From there,they can't find anymore. I'm going to try & contact his Aunt to see if they are still searching & if I could help. Will let you know if I find anything out.

Thanx so very much for the info. I have known Tom (and his family) since he was about 9 years old here in Ritzville, WA. I have been in contact with friends about this and haven't called his Aunt Sharon because I don't want to interrupt their search time. Please keep me posted of any info you might have.

There are a few articles out in the papers about Tom. So many stories & rumors going around here about Tom, really not going to post any news unless I know it is true. I am praying he is ok.

I am Tom's aunt. A friend referred me to this site. The latest is that Tom is still missing. Law enforcement has evidently abandoned the search but family and friends are continuing to look for him. We are going to try to get a large volunteer search set up for this Saturday. Please pray for Tom. Thank you!

My name is Carla. my city says Hysham, cept I do live in Forsyth. My husband & I used to play pool with Tom.We knew Willie(his friend that was murdered years ago)& hung around back then. I haven't seen Tom the last few years, but would very much like to go search Saturday. I have left my name & number with the police to be contacted for any searchs. If you could give me a time & place to show up for Saturday, I would appreciate it. Thank you. Praying for Tom.

Thank you Carla. We are still attempting to set this search up for Saturday. Evidently law enforcement have "completed their duties" in this thing. It appears that the weather may be cooperative on Saturday and I think the Country Club may be the most logical starting point. I need to contact Wanda to determine if that will be possible. We will then be asking the radio station to broadcast the "plan."

Sharon, we met years ago in Ritzville, please know that I am praying for Tom's rescue. Tom was my 2nd son while he lived here and later.Have kept in touch thru the years.

We are organizing a search for 10:00 on Saturday and are asking for volunteers. It sounds like we're going to have a lot of people help. We rode (with friends & family) all day again today. Yes, I am. I am so sorry for all this. Rod and I both wish we could be there to help in the search for Tom. You know we love Tom, just wish there was more info on his whereabouts. We are kicking off the volunteer search tomorrow morning at 10:00. Please pray for success! Nothing new. We've hired a small plane which is excellent for this type of search. I flew with him today and will again tomorrow afternoon.

Just wanted to let you know,there was a good turn out for the search. In one of our walking groups we had 26,I believe there was 2 to 3 walking groups. Plenty of horse riders & ATV four wheeler people.
We searched a lot of land with no trace of Tom.
This was one of maybe I believe 2 or 3 articles about Tom in the Billings Gazette newspaper.

Search for missing man waits for new information

The official search for a Forsyth man missing since Dec. 17 has been suspended while authorities wait for any new information, Rosebud County Sheriff Randy Allies said Monday.

Teams using dogs, four-wheelers, an airplane and ground crews searched a 5-square-mile area last week looking for 39-year-old Thomas Smith, Allies said.

Smith was last seen when his vehicle went off the road and into a ditch about two miles from his home. Smith's family and friends continued the search through Monday morning without success.

A motorist called 911 about 10:55 p.m. on Dec. 17 to report that she saw a vehicle go into a ditch on Smith Creek Road, about a mile west of Forsyth. Allies said a deputy arrived four minutes after the 911 call was made. The deputy found Smith's Chevy Suburban, but no sign of the man.
That is all anyone really knows. They may have more searchs, not sure.

I was one of Tom's friends from Ritzville & Spokane. In fact he was in my wedding and is my daughter's godfather. I have known Tom for about 23 years and he was family to me. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for anyone. I appreciate all who are looking for him and praying that he is found. There is a huge whole in my heart. If anymore search parties are organized, I will be there if I can. Living in Spokane so would have a days drive but am more than willing to do it. Thanks to all again who are trying to locate Tom.

If you go to this link ( it is a message board I belong to) they will set up a website for Tom. They will need some info. Family members or an authorized person can have them set it up. Will help to get Tom's name & story world wide. Does not cost anything.

Checked out the website above and found lots of news items on Tom. Will keep checking all web pages for any news. Everyone here in Ritzville is praying and hoping for good news. Been checking news channels in Spokane area for info on Tom's story. Might be good to get his picture in our area, too, since many people know him here. All coverage with his name and picture will help make everyone aware of him being missing. NaNa

The website for Tom at the helpfindthemissing site should be up sometime today. Provider's internet access was down. Did the Spokane station air a report on the news last night? Nothing new here. We're packing Tom's things while we await the arrival of the bloodhounds late Friday or early Saturday. How I wish they had been here two weeks ago!
