Edge Falls is now owned by privately by 2 doctors from Houston.(My great grandmother was Amy Edge Harwell, the original owner). Because the potential liability, the owners don't allow visitors.
With all the rain, it would be flooded right now and extremely dangerous.

I live on the property. We do not let anyone on the property right now. We have had too many problems with trespassers. We have had to get so strict that we have begun towing vehicles and issuing Criminal Trespass Warnings, and arresting people. I know Richard Edge, and he has no say so whatsoever as to whether or not people can go down to the falls. Richard never even owned it.

Is there anyway we could work something out? I would take pictures of the falls, in no way would I harm anything. My email is Jdhouseal@yahoo.com, plz get back to me.

Actually, people started getting drunk here all the time and causing trouble (trashing the property). It took about 20 yrs to actually clean up the mess left. To have it open to the public you have to have insurance. After a few people were killed, the insurance premiums sky rocketed and it was no longer affordable. People sneak out here all the time and it causes a lot of trouble for us. The Kendall County Sheriff's Office has gotten to know us quite well in fact. It is not just as easy as letting a few people go look. There is much more that goes into it. Plus, if we let one person go look, then everyone will start asking.

What Misty says about people trashing the place has always been true. Back in the 1970's Pearl Brewing used the falls in one of it's beer commercials. I'm not sure if Pearl Beer is still around anymore.
Richard Edge is a second cousin to the original owner, Amy Edge Harwell. Amy Edge had two sons, Chester and Harold Harwell. Chester was my grandfather. The people that live adjacent to the property children of Harold.
The history of the property is that Amy Edge was given that piece of property because it had the least farmable land. Her two brothers got better pieces of land nearby. Richard Edge is a decendent of one of her brothers and is a well-known business owner in the area.
Amy Edge Harwell's husband, Ambrose, was killed in car crash. In the late 1950's and early 60's Amy and her sons decided to open the falls to the public to make some extra money.
Over time, Edge Falls became a hot spot for high schoolers and college kids.
Misty is also right about the trash. Back in those days, beer and pop cans came with those tops that the tab popped off the can. As a result of being open 25 years there are so many of those tabs and that 50 floods like the one that hit Texas a week ago will probably never wash them away.
It can be a very treacherous piece of property because there are caves and a lot of springs (which are beautiful) that cause a lot of moss to grow. To get tothe most beautiful parts of the falls you have to crawl over lots of big and small rocks and slide around some pretty tight spots.
My guess is that the stairs that my grandfather welded to actually get down to the Big Falls has not been maintained and the road the that goes to the back side of falls has not been maintained either.
Misty is also correct about the insurance problem. Several people have died at the falls as a result of jumping off a 40 ft. cliff into the water despite sign prohibiting jumping. A drunk, young man from California was killed one day when I was working the gate in the mid 1970's. The Sheriff's department had to call in a diving crew to recover the body.
My great grandmother was sued by the parents of the boy who died. She was exonerated of any charges since signs were properly posted. Not long after that Edge Falls was closed. My mother, her sisters and their cousins had families of their own. My great grandmother was elderly. Chester had died in 1963 and Harold was in poor health. Of course, the grandkids and great grandkids were sick of dealing with the disrespectful and (now) litigious public, alcohol related incidets and all the TRASH. I probably picked up a million pounds of trash before the age of twelve.
It is beautiful piece of property. I wish now that we still had it in the family but I would never want to have it open to the public. If I ever won the lottery I'd love to buy it back for the family.
The last time I visited the property was in 1994 when my mother, Jean Harwell Love, passed away.

Actually, Hal and Kerry Harwell are my parents. They had to move to Boerne to care for my mother's elderly aunt. My dad is a high school math teacher in Comfort and my mom is an RN for the Labor and Delivery Department at St. Luke's Hospital in San Antonio.

My dad does have a website up with pictures of the falls. Edgefalls.com .

Tried to post a pic, I'll see if it works I guess. I meant to say before that my parents had my husband and me move out here so we could care for the property. The owners are having a lot of work done out here right now, including doing some repair work on the stairs. The road back to the big hill has been somewhat maintained, but water that goes through washes the road out quite a bit. The floods the last few years have been so strong that it literally lifted the pavement off the road and set it on our property. The county finally came through and replaced the cement road by the bridge with concrete. It took awhile, but at least the road doesn't get washed away now. As a matter of fact, the bridge is flooded over right now.

Misty,

I found your Edge Falls.com website which is very nice. Isn't it weird how cousins find each other over the internet...

Here is my e-mail if you'd be interested in writing. lynnmckin@excite.com. Hope to hear from you soon.

When I first found this topic I noticed your name because I have only known one other Lynette in my lifetime, so I mentioned it to my dad. He told me that you are cousin (history and all, and if you know my dad at all that won't surprise you). I'll make sure to take your e-mail down, and I will send you my dad's too.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Sagittarius

Mercury turning retrograde in your house of finances carries a rather unseasonal message, because it's telling you to pay attention to your finances over the next few weeks. If you already know that you've overspent this month, you won't need to be told that a few economies are just around the corner. Get the facts straight and pay attention to the small print. You may also have to make some adjustments to an intimate relationship so it can move into another phase.
