Not all atheists are unselfish, either. The ones on topix are an especially impressive group, I think - of educated atheists with a social conscience. not all are like that. and you know the christians on topix are mostly nutty rightwing fundies, and typical of that type, but not of every Christian who exists.

Would Bible study be presented as a literal interpretation or presented as a group of symbolic teachings that are open to numerous interpretations?

us, no way, i view the religious christians as terrorist and nothing less, we all seem to agree that the muslins a segment are terrorist. what percent of christians you ask? 100 percent, teaching children about the bible and god, should be a crime but is not, the adults indoctrinate these kids early and later some of the same kids will fight wars for their god and state. it's sickening. it's a form of brainwashing that we allow even though we all know it's going on. i know this post will get some feed back but it's how i feel, i work with the local churches in my area cause the need is there for the poor. i used to not matter if someone was a member of a church but now it matters, the pastors all know i'm atheist and i never push freethinking onto not one but i wear a sign that says atheist volunteer, which speaks for itself. the fact is the bible preaches hate, the holy koran the same, if the atheist don't stand up and demand to be heard we will have no voice, and that's not going to happen. the mormon church just spent twenty million dollars on cali prop 8. which thankfully was struck down later in our courts. religion kills all things alive.

In fact, I went through the entire book with different colored highlighters and marked everything in the bible accordingly: orange is God being immoral, yellow is immoral acts condoned by the bible, green is that which is physically impossible/unscientific, and pink is contradictions. A few things had to be marked multiple colors here and there.
It's an immoral book for immoral people. If you actually take all of it seriously and believe we should follow the teachings of the bible, I hope that someone close to you has you committed.
