After seeing a report from Capital news 9 I am appalled by the remark.. Not only is this a tragic accident but a scar on our town. Has anybody thought about the scar left in the mind of peter Shine's daughter and the terrible memories each time she sees a pair of ski's or a snow covered mountain for the rest of her life. Also the comment from the owner of Hunter Mountain " The owners of the HVI are good people, I have a problem with some customers" like the HVI's customers aren't his customers as well

I am appalled at how quickly the local authorities arrested Mr.Sebald considering Mr.Shine was in a major fight inside the bar and no one can seem to find the person he had the "real" fight with!!!!!
They need to keep looking for the person or persons involved in this tragedy.

It makes you wonder doesn't it, but at first report they thought Pete was just a drunk that froze to death,, that was the report for the first 24 hours

That's a point that needed to be brought up that night, where was all of the media at that point? It's not like there are all that many breaking stories that they are spread thin up there. Could you imagine how many bystanders would have ben interviewed on the scene if that happened in a bar down here like the Post Office. point is they tried to down play this because the HVI is a cash cow for that town.

The tragedy here is that the life of a good man, a great father and a great friend was snuffed out in the blink of an eye over what may have been a sensless argument

Pete Shine was a wonderful human being. He was not one to get drunk and start fights so I'm waiting to hear some of the real truth come out on this story. And why was this bouncer allowed to "forcefully eject" anyone? Their job is to escort people out if an altercation starts not throw them to their deaths.

Amanda, I agree and rest assured that your sentiments are echoed here in Long Island by all of us who were his friends and his co-workers. Pete and I have been friends for over 10 years and I can honestly say that I have never had cause to believe that he would act irresponibly in any situation. On top of the fact that his 5'8" frame kinda prohibited him from starting any trouble, let alone attempting to finish any. But although he had 5'8" frame he always wore a 10' smile.

The bouncer "DID NOT" throw him to his death, get the facts first. I'm sure Mr Shine was a great guy but let's face it , were you there? He was drunk and in a major fight inside the bar!!!!! The bouncer did escort him out!!!! People need to get all the facts before getting too emotional. Mr.Sebald is a wonderful guy as well and would never treat anyone in such a manner in which you speak.

I went to school with Tom (elementary, middle and high school), and I know what kind of a person he is. He would NOT use any more force than was required. He is a great guy, not some hulking football player as I'm sure people will try to make him out to be. No matter how small a person is, when they get enough alcohol in them they can cause very large problems. A bouncer's job is to stop those problems from happening. If a patron won't leave the bar peacefully, a bouncer would be neglecting their duties and putting other patrons in danger by leaving the intoxicated person in the bar. I'm not downplaying the tragedy here, I'm just making sure that people don't start saying bad things about someone they know nothing about.

How come they nevere released the blood alcohol level if he was so drunk as everyone seems to assume? How come no one was interviewd outside of the bar? Debbie is it a fact that he was not thrown to his death, I guess you were there? Bouncers are paid and licensed to kill to maintain order, no , not in New York?

If you have seen other articles you will find a statement made by a police officer that Mr. Shine was "very much intoxicated" mixing beer and alcohol. i don't think that anyone in a bar at midnight is drinking water! Who is to say that Mr. Sebald choked Mr. Shine!! What evidence do they have of this. Where is the man that Mr. Shine was in a fight with? Could Mr. Shine have been choked while in a fight? Where is the man that he was in the fight with? Was both Mr. Shine and the man that he was in the fight with thrown out as well? Who to say that The man he was in a fight with didn't find him and fight again. There to many contributing factors and to many unanswered questions to blame one person. This is truly a tragedy!!

Here's a fact!
Autopsy shows bar patron died from asphyxiation 2/8/2006 3:26 PM By: Associated Press
Authorities said a Long Island man who died after being tossed out of a Catskills bar was killed by pressure applied to his neck.
State police told the Middletown Times Herald-Record of Middletown that Peter Shine, 45, of Oakdale died as a result of asphyxiation which occurred as he was removed by bouncer Thomas Sebald, 27, from the Hunter Village Inn.
Doesn't say anything about intoxication , does it, maybe Pete wasn't intoxicated. The one thing we do know that the closest thing to fact is that statement above.
Not much out there that resembles fact in Mr. Sebalds defense is there?
Why, maybe if you step back and see the big picture here, you may find that the truth of the matter is it may have already been known that Pete was dead before his body hit the cold air and frosty ground outside of the HVI

Shine, described by witnesses as "very intoxicated," also suffered a head injury. The autopsy, however, determined that injury did not contribute to his death, police told the newspaper. that must be a fact?

Autopsy Shows Bar Patron Died From Asphyxiation POSTED: 12:54 pm EST February 8, 2006 Email This Story | Print This Story HUNTER, N.Y.-- A man who died after being tossed out of a Catskills bar was killed by pressure applied to his neck, a published report said Wednesday. The Times Herald-Record of Middletown, citing state police, reported Peter Shine died from asphyxiation as he was removed by bouncer Thomas Sebald from the Hunter Village Inn. The pressure to his neck cut off air and blood to Shine's brain, police said. The 45-year-old Oakdale resident went to the tavern 30 miles south of Albany on Saturday night and was removed from the bar around midnight. Another bouncer found Shine about 30 minutes later unresponsive. Shine, described by witnesses as "very intoxicated," also suffered a head injury. The autopsy, however, determined that injury did not contribute to his death, police told the newspaper. Sebald, 27, was charged with criminally negligent homicide, police said. Besides working as a bouncer, Sebald teaches government and economics at Monroe-Woodbury High School in Orange County and coaches football and lacrosse there. "It's just something unbelievable," said Aldo Filippone, principal at Monroe-Woodbury. "(Tom's) a very nice person and a good teacher." Sebald, who is free after posting $10,000 bail, pleaded not guilty Tuesday.

And I suppose this is an expert witness that gave Pete a breatholizer test,, this isn't a fact . The fact is that someone stated that, not that the information is factual. Do you agree with that statement John? If not, why? ( and in New York intoxication is punishable by strangulation)
The autospy is fact, and the fact is that Peter Shine died of asphyxiation. This is a fact documented by a coroner. Do you agree with that statement John? If not, why?

The bouncer put him in a choke hold. I had several friends that were there and that was how the bouncer took him to the door. and furthermore the bouncer told the police that when he threw Mr. Shine out the back door he hit his head on the bumper and that the injury to his head was what killed him.
