Clearfield Girls Volleyball

Why are the taxpayers paying an assistant coach who doesn't come to the games? The same assistant coach who called our girls "lazy bitches?" ANY person calling that to high school players should be terminated.

Who is the coach? Has Mikesell been made aware of this? From what I've seen they don't have a coach! Some guy who sits on the bench and doesn't say a word to the girls practly the whole game.

I'm not sure if it's ok to name names on here, regardless of what others are doing. The assistant coach is female and also a limo driver if that tells you anything. She was fined last year for disorderly conduct/obscene language/gesture. This is the person leading our youth.

What youth? The Shytt town of faggerfield cannot keep their youth because there is no reason to stay.

The head coach sits there the entire game and doesn't say a word to the girls. In last nights game against Curwensville, the Curwensville coach was on her feet the entire game COACHING her team while our coach sat there and remained silent. We are now 0-8. If the football team was 0-8 you can darn well bet Mikesell would be doing something about it. A small sample of our coach...

Well Larry, I know for a fact you're wrong and this isn't the only place this is being brought up at. Word has it that the assistant coach has resigned so things are happening. As for the school board, if it isn't about footbal, no one cares. Sorry this sort of thing interrupted everyones evening of enjoying Walker/Shaw show.

The assistant coach has indeed resigned. AFAIK, there are others helping out now. While they did not win tonight, the girls played extremely well, the best I have seen them play this year. Good job, girls.

I was told that at last nights banquet Mikesell was asked if he wanted to speak and he declined. Can anyone who was at the banquet confirm or deny this? Thanks.

I do not have a child this age but what kind of person that is suppost to set a example for youth would curse at them? Why was it left to go on? As a parent why did no one say or do anything? If a coach called my child a curse word I would of got into there faces after the game and off school property and away from the youth. Why did they take the job if they had no interest?

A couple of parents went to the school the day this happened and Mikesell called the police on them. Seems he couldn't handle being confronted by some volleyball moms! As for the banquet, yes, Mikesell was asked if he wanted to talk during the speach portion and he declined. The high school principle was asked if he wanted to speak and he also declined. It was just another slap in the face to the girls. You can bet if it was a football banquet both of them would have got right up there and talked to the audience. For the record, since Coach Peters has taken over the team, their record has gotten worse each year. This year they finished 0-18! Thanks Coach Peters and Jon Mikesell for sitting on your asses.

Clearfield Volleyball has never received much support for the school. I was a member of the program for three years.

As a senior, I remember that we wanted new uniforms. We were told to wear those in the boxes in the gymnasium storage room. These uniforms were likely worn by those who played in the 1970s or 1980s. We had many girls refuse to wear them, including myself. In the end, some purchased solid red shorts.

I also remember my years on the JV team. We were kicked out of the gym because the competition cheerleaders needed to practice. We would practice in the oval area and on the tennis courts. We later bounced around between the middle school and Clearfield Elementary.

When I was on the team, we averaged about 1-3 wins a season. We never had much support from fellow students. I definitely didn't feel like we had any support from school officials. We had a handful of parents in the gym at best. I actually enjoyed playing on the road more, as it was my only chance to play before a crowd with any atmosphere.

Volleyball is not a priority at the school. I'm not surprised to hear about the events that occurred at the girl's banquet. Parents need to step in and demand the support that the girls need to succeed. If they say and do nothing, they will continue to see the same results year in, year out, regardless of the head coach.

Don't write about it on the Clearfield Topix forum. Don't rant and rave to each other at the games. Stand up, speak up.

I can assure you the parents have been very active in speaking up, the problem is Jon Mikesell doesn't want to hear it because it has nothing to do with football. The girls went almost the entire season without a PA system in the gym because the school needed a part from it to use elsewhere, that elsewhere was the football stadium. The stands are far from empty during the games. There are 40 girls on the team so that makes for a lot of parents. There is also a very dedicated part of the student body that shows up. While the season may be over, the push to get things changed isn't, rest assured some of us will continue until something is done.

then go above jon mikesell . . . go to the superintendent . . . show up at a school board meeting . . . keep pushing . . .

Not only did Mikesell decline but the principle declined to say anything to the girls as well. I was there because my daughter is a volleyball player. There are many parents unhappy about this situation. I called the athletic director Mikesell early in the season and he told me he doesn't micromanage the teams. Coach Peters also lied about how he managed the team in his banquet speech. I wish I had a video of it! I also heard Mikesell telling Coach Peters what a fabulous job he did. What team was he watching?? The only thing left to do is address the school board but more than a few unhappy taxpaying parents need to attend. Does anyone have any comments on how he coached at the games?

I've seen this video and was at that game. It was the first time of playing Curwensville. Why is one of the middle schools gym teachers coaching for Curwensville instead of Clearfield. I was told she was not needed. Is this true?
