I have been posting this story all over topix from Virgina to Texas, and it appears that Topix has been taking it down...
Negro Councilman desecrates Confederate Graves. http://www.oanow.com/oan/news/local/article/c ... Katie Stallcup Staff writer Published: April 23, 2009 "Mary Norman was shocked Thursday afternoon when Auburn Councilman Arthur L. Dowdell pulled up a Confederate flag placed on her great-grandfather's grave and snapped it in half, she said. Dowdell, who denies snapping the flag, said Thursday he was picking up his daughter from Auburn Junior High School near the cemetery when several people told him they had a problem with the flags. He drove to the cemetery and started pulling up flags, he said. Its offensive to me, he said. To me, it represents the Ku Klux Klan and racism. The United Daughters of the Confederacy placed the flags earlier this week, as they have done for 50 years, in preparation for a celebration Sunday of Confederate Memorial Day, Norman said. Confederate Memorial Day will be celebrated as a state holiday in Alabama Monday. I really didnt know exactly how to respond to him, she said. I happen to be a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy. I was very surprised, especially (as he is) a city councilman. I was amazed. Norman was not personally involved in placing the flags. Im a historian, she said. We are not about hate, we are not about anything like that. We just want to honor our states rights, and Ive got Confederate ancestors, and I feel we should have the ability to do that. "Norman and a friend were taking inventory of graves at Pine Hill Cemetery in Auburn when Dowdell drove up and asked who put up the flags, she said. One of the flags had been placed on my great-grandfathers grave, who was a Confederate soldier, Norman said. He just got very upset, and he went over to my great-grandfathers grave, picked up the flag and broke it in two. She said Dowdell did not know the plot she stood on was her familys. The flags were placed on soldiers; graves as a mark of respect, she said. He pulled up Confederate flags from other soldiers; graves, too, she said. Dowdell said in his years as councilman, he had never seen so many Confederate flags in one place. Im going on the record that this will never happen again, Dowdell said. This will never happen again as long as Im on the city council. Dowdell denied intentionally snapping the flag. It might have snapped itself, he said. If it did, so what? If I had my way, I would have broke them all up and stomped on them and burned them. That flag represents another country, another nation." This is just another indication that this nation is moving toward a totalitrian dictatorship If I had my way, Mr. Dowdell might have been the next tenet. |

The Councilman needs to be aware of a certain Alabama State Law.

The Councilman not only needs to be aware of the law, he should be charged under the law.

1 If he is charged with a crime he will claim is is because he is BLACK![remember if you say Obama is wrong on the issues, you are a racist] No local police chief (appointed by elected officials) or prosecutor (elected official) will want to stand out in the hail of NAME CALLING that would result from charging THIS CRIMINAL.[no black votes for you next election] This guy, Dowdell, is not worried about going to jail (where he belongs), he is counting on getting the BLACK VOTE when he runs for the state legislature or congress next election. AND ... blackdog is right ... imagine the OUTRAGE in the NATIONAL MEDIA (as opposed to some folks spreading the links to this story by e-mail) if a WHITE POLITICIAN removed a flag or said ANYTHING disparaging about the grave of a BLACK PERSON. |

Dis-Honest Abe
Oxford, AR YOU SAID... in message #13. "Slavery was under the U.S. flag for what 80 yrs or so, 4 yrs under the confederate flag. " You know, I have been laboring under the illusion that I was the only one who had figured that flag thing out. I thought that I was pretty hot stuff. I am glad that there are other intelligent people out there who can reason, think, and do simple math. Thanks for pointing that "flag math problem" out for everyone. |

Might also point out that several Northern States continued the practice of slavery throughout the Civil War.
Don't hear to much about that do we. |

WTF,
You are so right... this is a reply that I posted in another forum... That dumb bastard, Dowdell, should read up on Black Confederates, and how these black men, some Free Men of Color, and others who were slaves, anywhere from 65,000 to 150,000 of them fought for that flag that he broke, and removed from the graves of our heroes. These black Confederates were armed, and in combat and they fought heroically, vallantly, and genorously for our beloved country. When they were captured by the Union terrorists, they escaped and made their way back to their Confederate units, or, to their plantations. When Black Confederates in New Orleans were asked to sign pledges of loyality to the Union, they refused. One was pissed off at his master for doing so, and left him in disgust. In 1861, about 40-60 Free Men of Color, put a Confederate flag in front of their column and marched to Richmond to offer their services to the state and our nation. One Union General complained that the Black Confederates killed, and robbed his Union troops. It doesn't sound like it to me that they were all cooks, and manual labor types, but real soldiers, armed and damn good fighters. General Patrick Cleburne was the first to suggest in December, 1863, January, 1864 to arm Black troops and put them into combat. There was some resistance, but Cleburne did have significant support among the Conferage staff officers. Finally, much too late to be really effective in reversing our fate, the CSA government did enlist blacks in significant numbers. However, since the beginning of the war, in 1861, there were heroic Black Confederates fighting in intergrated Confederage units, units that were NOT black, but mixed. Black Confederates received pensions from their former Confederate states for their service to our nation. Black Confederates showed up in numbers to be reunited with their white CSA veterans at UCV reunions, and appeared in photos with them. Black Confederates are depicted on the Confederate Monument, built in 1914 and is located in Arlington National Cementary. A black man of honor, such as those who stepped up and volunteered to fight for our nation, may ask me to call him by whatever name he wishes. A low life like Dowdell does not have that right, therefore, for him, is reserved the contempable slang name for Negro, that rhymes with rigger. |

FROM a BLACK CONFEDERATE SITE..
http://www.geocities.com/pentagon/bunker/1163 ... "Shortly after the surrender of Fort Sumter by Major Anderson in April of 1861, a company of armed, colored soldiers was seen marching through Charleston, South Carolina.(16) ---------- A company of free black men offered their serviced to the Governor of Tennessee as soldiers. Soon afterwards in June of 1861, the governor accepted into state service all male persons of color.(17) ---------- The 1st Louisiana Regiment of Native Guards was a military unit composed of free black men. They were organized in 1861 and early 1862.(18) ---------- In 1865, the Confederate Congress authorized the raising of black regiments to fight in the Army of Northern Virginia. This measure was too little, too late to help General Lee." EARLY... BLACK CONFEDERATES, FOUGHT THE NORTH.... FROM THE BLACK CONFEDERATE WEBSITE http://www.geocities.com/pentagon/bunker/1163 ... "After the Battle of Gettysburg, two white Confederates came upon an unsuspecting Yankee soldier but were too drunk to handle him so they turned him over to their body servant. Colonel Arthur Fremantle, an English observer says he saw, "a negro dressed in full Yankee uniform, with a rifle at full cock, leading along a barefoot white man, with whom he had evidently changed clothes." When questioned by General Longstreet, the servant told the story with obvious contempt in his voice for his Northern prisoner.(12) ---------- Two body servants of Confederate soldiers named Tom and Overton picked up Yankee weapons that were laying around and moved up and joined the firing line of the 12th Virginia Cavalry at an unknown battle.(13) ---------- At the Battle of Mechanicsville, one white Confederate soldier refused to fight throwing down his rifle and accoutrements. His body servant asked the commanding officer for permission to take up his masters weapon and equipment and fight. He was allowed to do so.(14) ---------- One body servant chanced upon a Yankee officer with two horses. Having a gun, he shot the Northerner and took the horses back to Confederate lines probably to be given to the cavalry.(15)" John Noland, a Black Missouri Confederate was often the scout who would go into a town and scout it out before our famous Confederate hero, William Clark Quantrill would attack the federal tyranny sympathisers. "Noland joined Quantrill because his family in Missouri had been abused by Jayhawkers, Kansas guerrillas who raided Missouri and later were mustered into the Union forces, " |

NORTHERN GENERALS OWNED SLAVES....
DO YOU WANT TO SEE A PROUD, FAMOUS BLACK MAN STANDING BEFORE A CONFEDERATE FLAG? http://www.phalange.com/blackneo.htm "It was not just Southern generals who owned slaves but Northern generals owned them as well. Gen. Ulysses Grant's slaves had to await the 13th Amendment for freedom. When asked why he didn't free his slaves earlier, Grant said, "Good help is so hard to come by these days." These are but a few examples of the important role that blacks served, both as slaves and freemen in the Confederacy during the War Between the States. The flap over the Confederate flag is not quite as simple as the nation's race experts make it. They want us to believe the flag is a symbol of racism. Yes, racists have used the Confederate flag, but racists have also used the Bible and the U.S. flag. Should we get rid of the Bible and lower the U.S. flag? Black civil rights activists and their white liberal supporters who are attacking the Confederate flag have committed a deep, despicable dishonor to our patriotic black ancestors who marched, fought and died to protect their homeland from what they saw as Northern aggression. They don't deserve the dishonour." There is more, much more on how small units of Black Confederates were in COMBAT, prior to 1865, when the Confederate Government officially, and belatedly brought blacks into the Confederate Service, armed them and sent them into BATTLE. The myth that blacks only served as cooks, etc, is a bunch of federal propaganda shtit. Black Confederates served with distinction, honor, and bravery. Black Confederates were given pensions, just like any other Confederate soldier by their states after the war. Black Confederates attened Confederate Soldier reunions. Not all Black Confederates served in all black CSA units. Too bad that they don't teach the truth in schools about Blacks and the War of Northern Aggression. But then, if they did, the tyranny of Lincoln, the fact that he didn't free northern slaves, only those in the south, in order to generate an uprising against the south, which never happened, would be known, as well as that US General Grant owned slaves and did not free his slaves either. LET US CLOSE NOW WITH OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM, http://www.youtube.com/watch... PLEASE REMAIN STANDING FOR OUR...OTHER NATIONAL SONG. Ya'll know the words join in... http://www.youtube.com/watch... |

Yes Sir ! You are welcome, but it is true. I honor my csa confederate , who rode with Quantrill in Missouri. I clean his grave and stone about every 3 months, and for someone to tell me I could not or found anyone doing harm to his grave, I would do all I could to prevent it. Mark |

Yes the north had slaves , Ohio , Ill, Mass, West Virginia came back to the union in like 1863 after Abe Licoln told them if they would, they could keep the slaves. U.S. Grant had slaves and his better half, her family had slaves. The union army used slaves also during the war. |
