Kids' safety overrides First and Fourth amendments

As a hyper-proponent of the First and Fourth amendments, it took a long time, but, after looking at the facts carefully, it is impossible not to defend and praise Texas officials for removing more than 400 ...

It's about time. And no, Texas doesn't want this problem to solve.

We just thought Katrina was bad, trying to absorb all those extra people into the community.

I just found out we are getting a bunch of kids about 30 min. from here. They are not letting just anyone from churches work with them. They want people to volunteer for 8 hour shifts 3 times a week.

They are not expected until later on in the month.

Want it or not..you have gotten this problem. Along with all the other problems from Hurricane Katrina! Plus all the immigration from Mexico. Texas has its fair share of mess!

In this case, the magnitude of the problem was expanded by the state officials. If they would have focused on the abusers instead of all of the children, most of whom were not at immediate risk, the state would only have a few children to handle and the rest would be safer too. Instead they have created a nighmare for hundreds of innocent children. But I guess its rare that government doesn't bungle up even something simple.

I do not know why you people are either so hardheaded or intentionally trying to aggravate those of us who have to live close to the problem and potentially will be volunteering time to care for the kids.

There was evidence of systematic abuse. I don't think they initially took all the children.

Also, the moms would not cooperate to say which kid beloned to which mom.

They probably really should have been arrested for inerfering with the investigation.

Normally, when children are removed, the moms are not allowed to travel with them.

They have handled this group with kid gloves.

The FLDS have launched a media campaign to create sympathy.

Apparently, it has worked.

Amusing how people who pretend to be so backward and ignorant of the law so quickly set up websites, had an attorney as a PR person and so on.

If you would take the time to read what has been going on in Utah, Arizona, Canada and other places, you might get rid of your tunnel vision.

Also, the prophet routinely split up and reassigned families.

They have no clue if the parents of these children are even on the compound.

They put one family that is supposedly not a polygamist family on the air waves along with theri supposed six children.

Then it shows them out watering the grass.

If your kids were somewhere other than you, would you be more proacrtive instead of showing histrionics to the media?

That energy could be better channeled in finding out what it will take to get their children back.

I don't believe that these officials will ever return these children to the parents under any condition other than being forced to.

I am not surprised that would help the investigators by answering anything. So far, every word they have uttered has been twisted to represent them as terrible parents.

I believe the state's focus is to eliminate this religion. Take away their children, educate them in other beliefs, don't let them associate with their parents, and hopefully they will not return when the state dumps them on the street. This should effectively eliminate this group. Which are worse the abusers or the saviors of their children.

How would you know anything about the system in Texas?

I have read that if the kids are put into long-term situations once the investigation has been completed, they would seek to place the children with their own extended families.

Of the children in foster care in Tx, figures say the vast majority are place with immediate or extended family.

Do you have any idea how great the cost is to house these kids in residential facilities and to try to figure out where they are educationally, medically, socially and psychologically?

Without these assessments, how are CPS workers and Judges supposed to make decisions on which children could be returned to their parents or whomever has charge of them at the ranch and which children need to stay in protectivei custody?

I remember being in a court hearing and the juvenile probation officer recommended that the youth stay with their mother although it wasn't the best situation. About a week later, the dad in another state was arrested on a major drug conviction. Sometimes it is just a gut feeling that turns out to be true. The dad wanted custody of the child, but that would have been a wrong placement.

I've worked in this. It's never easy.

Texas, California, wherever. The abuse of authority is pretty much universal. I believe that the basic problem of CPS (or their equivalent) is that the believe that they way is superior to others. They use the legal system to force their opinions on others. The negative impact that will be on these kids lives because of their decisions is impossible to imagine.

The kids under CPS jurisdiction face are being abused by the system that are supposed to protect them. The are numerous writeups of the risks these kids are in, specifically in Texas.

Don't get my wrong, what the FLDS was wrong and needs to be dealt with, but CPS has stepped way out of bounds. They are punishing the children in their attempt to get to the parents.

The goal is always to reunite children with families and this has been accomplished. I don't know what people have a beef about now, if anything.
