Huntsville has one of the lowest costs of living with some of the highest incomes in the country.
I've lived here for over 11 years, and I love it. The city has really started to boom because of BRAC. Finding a job here isn't a problem at all. As for the kids there are many recreational sports leagues, there is an interactive museum, nature trails, community playgrounds, and skating rinks. The schools in the city and in the surrounding suburbs are wonderful. |

Referenced page will probably tell all you need for jobs and employment.
http://www.huntsvillealabamausa.com/new_exp/c... Some of the best schools in Alabama are here. Many publications list this as one of the best places to raise kids. I moved here three years ago and find it an oasis in the desert. Check it out. Think you would be pleased. |

Yolanda, I personaly LOVE Huntsville. There are many great schools here but if you want my opinion on the best ones, I'd have to say: 3.Challenger 2.Chafee 3. Mountain Gap My fave. school is Mountain Gap because the staff is exceptional and the school is just remarkable! The staff includes: Priniple: Mrs. Nancy Murphry. Secretary: Ms. Nancy Schuler. Clerical Assistant: ms. Pat Young. To find out more, go to www.hsv.k12.al.us . and then click on Schools and then select Mt. Gap Elementary. They also have a middle school. I hope this Info. was helpful! |

Hi everybody, I will be moving to Huntsville in Aug. and I love being out and about among people when I am not working. Is Huntsville a city that you can easily meet people who are friendly or do you have to be in the click? Thanks
|

Don't worry SkyWatcher, Huntsville is a great place. There's no "clicks" to worry about. The people here are great and I'm sure you'll fit in. there's so many wonderful activities here, especially for children. For starters, there's the space and rocket center, sci-Quest, and my favorite Skate odyssey. it's a real fun skating rink.(roller skating) They also provide skate lessons for beginers. It's located in South East huntsville. I hope you enjoy it! |

I agree...Huntsville is great! We have been living here for 7 years. It is a great place to raise kids (we have 3). We use to laugh because people are so friendly here that they even say hi to you even if you have your back turned to them! Housing is also very affordable check out www.soniasells.com . Also check out our local news, search for a job, or read the classifieds on www.al.com

I cannot tell you much about Huntsville, but I'm in Madison. I find it very differnt than what everyone else is saying. I don't see the friendliness everyone talks about. There is not alot of activities here for children unless you have one of those wonderful jobs. Job wise, as I said unless you have one of those wonderful jobs, good luck in surviving. I do not see the lower cost of living, either. I come from the Midwest and we have lower taxes, we do not pay tax on food, and we have wonderful activities that are free. The school sytems provide a FREE education with Magnet programs that are centered around Math & Sciece, Media Communications, Engineering, and Performing Arts. My children have not went to the schools here yet but After talking to quite a few teens here, the schools are great if your athletic.
This is the impression I get of this generally area. |

Huntsvile is a good city, but its little on the dull side. There isn't any local culture here and has no favor.I prefer a city like Mobile anyday.

We are moving to Huntsville next month. If a person sighs when they find out we are moving to Huntsville it is mainly because they watch too much TV.
There is an excellent source of city information. Here is the link for Huntsville: http://www.city-data.com/forum/huntsville-mad... |

Please move somewhere else, we do not need you. |

I would recommend this area by far. My wife is from Dusseldorf, Germany and she loves it here. It is a very low cost of living as compared to Iowa to include a diverse area. Personally my wife and I do not have kids but we live out in Meridianville which is a 15 minute drive to Research Park. My father is originally from Virginia but decided to retire here. Heck my mother retired here back in 97' and they moved back just for my dad to retire here. They wanted to come here so bad my father went to serve on the General's Staff at Camp Casey while my parents built their house out in Harvest, which they have now sold and build another one. However you can get a massive house for very cheap as compared to other mid sized cities. We are not far from Chattanooga, Nashville, Atlanta, Memphis, Montgomery, and the gulf coast. I love it here and will only leave if my family and I move to Texas, UK or Western Europe. Other than that this is home. Please view this link http://asmartplace.com/ P.S. I have shown this area to my friends and relatives whom all live in larger cities and they love it here.

Huntsville is a nice place to live if you have a really good job, and my husband and i have been looking for work for over a month, so jobs are scarce, unless you want to work in fast food, if you are a rocket scientist then you might get lucky. my husband is very educated and x military, and still no luck. so good luck! and not all the people in this town are friendly. If you are an engineer with a degree then you might get lucky finding work to. good luck

Jones Valley Hampton Cove The East Side best place to be with an exception of a few wild rich boys with crooked hats and polo clothes on in an acura black truck and a green truck Hsv Mom |

The unemployment rate in Huntsville for engineers with degrees is 0.2%(that is 2 out of 1000).
Huntsville's home prices rose in 2008 at the 9th highest rate (3.8%) in the countray (Decatur, right next door to Huntsville was number 1). Sure 3.8% doesn't sound like much but considering virtually all of the US house prices have gone down, 3.8% really is something to write home about. I second the comment above about Hampton Cove being one of the best places in Huntsville to live. It is very family friendly, lots of different types of homes at many price ranges, excellent pool and fitness facility, outstanding schools, and very pretty surrounded by foothills. It is also a very large development with an excellent HOA which is on top of things in keeping the community looking good and keeping the home values up. |

Hampton Cove is a good place to look. We did when we moved here in 2005.
We ended up moving into Madison and it has turned out to be a great move. Madison is a good family town. If you have young kids...Madison is a great place. |

IF YOU LIVE WITH YOUR HEAD IN THE SAND!!!Oh yea, Huntsville is a wonderful place to live, if you like people that live with their head in the sand. Walking around with blinders on. Refusing to acknowledge a problem until it effects one of their children...and then the're "why didn't anyone tell me about this?" I do not personally live in Huntsville, but about 15 miles away. My children did go there on the week-ends skating. That was until about 4 months ago when they came home afraid because of gang recruitments and initations going on inside the skating rink and them witnessing such!!
I posted a comment on here just asking other parents if they had heard anything about such....that was is January!!!! I just checked that comment again and not one parent has commented on it in 3 months. Parents that don't care about the possibility of a gang in the community they live in.....yea , that's a great place to live!! I don't understand how parents can be so uninvolved in issues that effect their children and their community. I just re-posted 2 polls, maybe the parents in Huntsville will care enough ,if all they have to do is click on an answer! Hmmmguess we'll see! Other thatn that I love Huntsville! 2 great malls and a lot of shopping plazas. As for empolyment, they've got enough for them plus all the rest of us that choose to live in surrounding communtities and drive back and forth!:) Check out the school systems on line first, I think its greatschools.com or something like that. |
