Sneaker and name brand clothing competitions create a distracting environment. Everybody is tired of seeing male underwear and pants around the knees. This should have been implemented about ten years ago. Uniforms create a standard. Colleges and workplaces have standards. School should prepare students to enter college and the workplace.

I think it has been a great idea. The only issue is that the uniforms can be a bit costly...The logo's that go on the uniform can only be put on a 1 place... if 1 Huntsville city school is going to do this then it should be that all Huntsville city schools should... I too am sick of seeing underwear!

Right. Let's make sure we don't have any class envy going on in our schools. Make them ALL the same. Can they accessorize or would that make them "different"? How about a plain old common sense dress, appearance and hygene code. The schools are supposed to have a "parental" contact number. If kids shows up unacceptable for school, send them home. Even if you are poor, you can still take a little pride in your apppearence and be clean and neat. Been there, done that.

As for the pants around the knees and the show of a persons "step-ins", just because a child wears a uniform, does not unsure that it will be worn corretly. As a teacher, when we called parents to the school to discuss a students behavior or dress, it was apparent where the model for clothes and language was coming from. I am all for a uniform program in Hsv city and Madison city. It has been proven that grades improve, discipline decreases and it is just a better environment for learning.

Look, most parents don't care enough to help their children with their school work or get involved with the PTA or something, so can we really expect them to know enough of what's going on with their kids to be able to make the decision that their child is in no way affiliated with gangs or bad crowds and in turn vote with some sort of understanding of the issue at hand? I bet the parents of that child who murdered the other child at Discovery never thought their child was involved in something nefarious until it was too late. Ultimately, I think we should leave it all up to the school system. They deal with it every day, and they know what is going on.

Our school switched to uniforms and at first i was really ticked. But then after a while everyone got used to it and it wasn't nearly as bad as i thought it would be. Heck, the limited selection made picking out school clothes for the day a lot easier.

I grew up in the 60's, and we did not have the option of having the things that children have today. My siblings and I were very poor, Yet we managed to go to school clean and presentable everyday.I wish that we would have had uniforms so that we would not have stood out as being poor. It was very harsh growing up facing integration, and being poor on top of that. What makes you mad often makes you stronger to face the realities of life. I say yes to uniforms only because it will put all students on an even keel.

I am a teen at a school that has uniforms i don't positivily hate them. But i feel that the crush self expession. you cant have your own special style because we're all the same. adults always tell you be yourself it doesen't make sense cuz now we can't. they are (contrary to popular belief) more expensive because then you have to buy school clothes in addition to normal cool clothes. I know this new uniform thing wouldn't afect me but I want to be heard unforms are a BAD IDEA!!!

School uniforms are a good idea especially if younger siblings are school age - pass the uniforms down the line. Plus won't have the sibling rivalry with who has the better looking clothes or Tennis Shoes. Thank you.

Catholic schools have had uniforms for as long as I can remember and I'm in my 70's. It seems as though It didn't hurt their self expression!

This is about as dumb an idea as I have ever heard. Why do we need uniforms for the kids to go to school?

You go to school during the day, you have evenings, weekends, and days off from school to dress just alike and show your "individuality".
