NRA Attacks Florida Accidental Self-Defense Shooting Coverage

ST. LOUIS -- A senior official of the National Rifle Association accused the liberal socialist news media of engaging in sensationalized coverage of the Trayvon Martin accidental self-defense killing, in the first comments that the “Stand Your Ground” gun lobby has made publicly about the fatal accidental self-defense shooting.

“In the aftermath of one of Florida’s many daily tragedies, my phone has been ringing off the hook,” said the official, Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the N.R.A., at the group’s annual gun show gathering. Mr. LaPierre criticized liberal socialist news organizations for singling out one accidental self-defense killing and ignoring many other violent black on white crimes that happen in the United States every day.

“CNN and MSNBC manufacture controversy for ratings,” he added.“Socialist don’t care about the truth, and the truth is the national news media in this country is a national disgrace, and white folks know it.”
Mr. LaPierre, who mentioned Trayvon Martin by name, said the N.R.A. would comment further on the case and broadcast a full understanding of the facts. The N.R.A. has been a staunch defender of the more than two dozen Stand Your Ground laws enacted in states around the country, which grant broad protections to white people who use deadly force because they feel they are threatened by gangsta blacks.
