1 Any elected "official" that votes for this crap is committing political suicide. The people in this country may be apathetc and disillusioned right now, but are NOT as stupid as these socialists in office want them to be. |

Those self important fools among you that think you're educated calling the kettle black are really humorous. ---She is NOT disgracing the flag, upside down is a symbol of distress, there is no disgrace in distress, except when the educated express their ignorance and call distress-disgrace. As to the retired Marine-you should know this, sir. As to her right to fly it whichever way she chooses, you idiots that take her Right to fly a distress signal are no better than any other Constitution corrupting communists of the left wing. Stick your heads back in the sand where they were when the fascists passed the Bill by a margin of 5., and you won't have to look at an American Flag signifying Distress.

1 First off, I lived in central Alabama for ten years, I'm from Memphis originally. I can tell you from living there that most Alabamians didn't discover shoes yesterday. They do know how to come in out of the rain. I'm a college educated wife and mother. I'm far from being "red neck" as you have so eloquently stated. I'm not a fan of what Ms. Orr did, but I do agree with the statement that she is making. She has as much right to exercise her first amendment rights as anyone else. From the picture that was provided with this story it doesn't seem to me that Ms. Orr is an uneducated, red neck. If you notice the flag is hanging from a very, nice balcony; in a neighborhood with a home owners association. That doesn't sound too hillbilly to me. Finally, you stated: "I'm thankful for the healthcare bill." How thankful are you going to be when you're paying higher taxes? I'm afraid if this bill passes the negative ramifications will echo for years to come. I fear that this 1900 page bill is hiding more than we're aware of. |

1 As a former Girl Scout, I get really peeved when people show such little knowledge of flag etiquette. Now THAT'S something they should be teaching in schools. But it's not on the test, so I guess it's not important. Judging from the grammar of these rabid anti-healthcare comments, I can only assume that anti-health care people are just not very well educated or informed. What makes me ill is that so many of these Republican politicians claim to be "pro-life". What a bunch of liars. You can't be "pro-life" and against healthcare. You can't be "pro-life" and pro war at the same time. The stupidity and cruelty of some people is sometimes just staggering. |

I don't feel I'm "ignorant of the facts." I've listened to and read everything I can find on healthcare reform. I'd love to read the bill itself, but quite frankly I don't have the time. I don't know anyone that has enough idle time to read through 1900 plus pages of the bill. From your post it sounds like you're very well versed on the subject. Maybe you can answer a question for me. If this bill passes, how is it going to be funded and by whom? The only way I know, is through higher taxes. Have you seen the expected cost of the reform? The figures are astronomical! There is NO guarantee if the bill is passed that everyone who is eligible will participate. Since I'm one of these, non-educated, shoeless, redneck, hillbillies please educate me on healthcare reform. |

1 For everyone who keeps arguing about socialism in the United States, consider this: IT ALREADY EXISTS!!! Ever heard of welfare, food stamps, social services, WIC? All of these programs are paid for with YOUR tax money. Then the services are made available to your fellow American's. How is that not socialism? |

The health plan: I have ONE question; If the Government passes the bill and makes ‘not’ having health insurance against the law, then a lot of people will be behind bars.
Then the Government will be forced to increase the size of the prisons to accompany everyone,(I’m sure there will be plenty) BUT, the Government will ‘not’ increase the size of the prisons to accompany the criminals and the repeat criminals—for murdering, raping, shooting, kidnapping and many other heinous crimes.???? This is really ARSE backwards! AND JUST WRONG! |

I have taken the flag from the coffin of a soldier killed in combat and handed it to his mother. The flag is not a trifle to be used so lightly. Shame!

Flag upside down? This action confirms : I serve my country only for those who support my country, my president, my family, those I hold dear and those who would not ever think about undermining this great nation, United States of America.
To take liberties of such discrace at freedoms expence is a shame. |

The bill will be funded by cutting back Medicare. This should not be an alarm to regular elderly who need Medicare. The cuts will come from the Medicare Advantage, part D, that Bush signed in during his term. Medicare Advantage is very costly and it's designed with rich, upper class people in mind who can pay the monthly premiums to get special care and private doctors... Just keep looking for answers, you seem smart enough. Don't listen to the media and do research on this. It will benefit us in the long run. In the beginning it might cost a bit to get it going, but once we have everyone covered, we can avoid things that bankrupt the healthcare system, such as paying for people who ignorantly decide not to purchase insurance. For those who cannot pay, there will be subsidized costs and assistance, much like there is already. And do not worry about the 'poor' getting this insurance, they already have healthcare. It's called Medicaid. Mainly this bill does nothing more than provide for those who do not have coverage through a small employer, and regulate standards and provisions on insurance companies so they can stop hacking us into bits by treating us as profits rather than people. |

America is not a free market, pure capitalist society. I'm not really sure any society could survive without some sort of assistance for the elderly and the destitute. Well, we could survive, but what sort of society would we be where we left the needy out in the cold? It will never happen. |

How many adults that you know do not drive a car? The population of those who choose not to drive is extremely small. Plus, the fact that they are NOT driving means they are not a danger to other drivers. They will not run over anything, anyone, hit any cars, cause any wrecks. Whereas, on the other hand, a person who does not have insurance is still a danger to everyone. A person without insurance still risks an emergency and requiring medical attention. So yes, the comparison is valid. The scenario with "leroy" DOES indeed fall on the other millions of Americans - WE are picking up the tab. We are paying for his medical attention, don't you understand that? Those without insurance must be paid for somehow. Do you think he is going to be responsible? All he has to do is go to a public hospital and he is off the hook - but we are going to pay for it, in terms of premiums, benefits being cut, hospitals being forced to close for lack of funding, ect. Connect the dots, man! People need insurance for the good of this country. Other wise the healthcare costs will continue to rise. The government is only finally taking control of this because others abuse the government's public hospitals, thinking they will not pay for insurance but if something happens, they will still be cared for and someone else can foot the bill. The government is getting involved because the costs are shooting through thr roof, and 46 million are without coverage. That is an enormous number and something should be done. Yes, healthcare is a privilege, but that doesn't mean some should get off scott-free while we are paying out of our @ss in premiums because people are irresponsible. |

brittany..........where did you find the full version of the bill that you can understand? i mean i know there is alot of hersay going around but the bill i found was plundered with words and hard to keep up with

I'll be honest, I haven't read the bill; BUT I am a healthcare student in college, and I am currently in a class titled "US Healthcare Systems," so I'm not by any means an expert, but my research is maybe a little more objective and less biased I would hope. Also, here is an article that may help with my point earlier, I stumbled across it in a yahoo news article: http://www.mcclatchydc.com/homepage/story/788... |
