My wife works there and she says it is a great place to work. She really enjoys it and they are good to their employees. They have very good benefits and pay.

Is this in bound or out bound calling? Can anyone give more details about this place? I used to work at GC and hated it. Nothing worse than getting cussed out at least 40 times a day. lol

this is a problem with allll call centers... however, they cant fire you for being sick.. or for your children being sick... if you will be out for more than 3 days, ask your HR dept for paperwork for FMLA...

In most places, you only qualify for FMLA if you have been employed for more than 12 months.

If Direct TV is not allowing "flu time" for their employees, they should be turned into the local health deapartment, OSHA and the US Department of Labor. I am not sure, but with the president signing the flu declaration, there could be special provisions that mandate an employer allow employees affected with the flu time off.

Yes they have a 'flu amnesty' provision in their attendance policy. It is posted all over the building and many many employees have used it. Sounds like someone is bitter because they miss as much work as they possibly can without being fired and then when something happens that they have to miss a day they don't have any cushion left. Just because you are allowed 8 occurrences doesn't mean you have to use them. If you had any work ethic at all, this wouldn't be a problem.

The US Department of Labor along with the Cabell Huntington Health Department can investigate. Let's hope their investigation will shed light on the truth and that if Direct is doing the right thing, the reporter should applogize.

They could investigate, but they won't. There is no current law requiring companies to give special consideration for H1N1. Not federal, state, or county. Companies are not required to give paid sick time (that state bill was defeated last year) and they don't even have to allow unpaid sick time allowances within their attendance policy.

However, any responsible company will do all of those things. And DirecTV is doing the right thing. They offer a fair amount of Paid Time Off for the employees to use however they see fit throughout the year (sick, vacation, whatever). They also allow their employees to miss work 8 times (multiple consecutive days count as one time) for any reason before being terminated. And now they are allowing their employees to miss work without counting the absences if it is for a documented case of H1N1 (employee or employee's children). I have worked at almost every call center in the tri-state area and that's the most fair and liberal attendance/sick time policy I've heard of.

DirecTV is being very proactive about H1N1 because they don't want it to wipe out their staff. Employees are supposed to disinfect their work areas and equipment and are encouraged to go home if they are sick. I find it very hard to believe anyone has been fired for having H1N1 or for just being sick. They probably used up all of their PTO and occurrences already so when they got sick they had nothing to fall back on. That's the kind of work ethic that is so common in this area.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Aquarius

The more you want to control someone, or someone wants to control you, the more difficult life will be today. It's a Full Moon and a lunar eclipse, so the last thing you should do now is to act as though you own this person, or tell them what to do, because it will be an instant recipe for rebellion and trouble. Mars is retro in your house of significant others and open enemies after all. If you don't want to spoil the evening's celebrations you'll have to make compromises, and hope that this other person will do the same. Don't let the fuss stop you having a very happy New Year's Eve.
